Chronic Elbow Dislocation: Evaluation and Management.

Chronic elbow dislocation is defined as a dislocation that has remained unreduced for >2 weeks. The soft-tissue and skeletal changes that develop during this time usually prevent successful closed reduction. These changes include the development of extensive intra-articular fibrotic tissue, as well as contracture of the triceps, collateral ligaments, and elbow capsule. Ulnar nerve involvement and associated fractures may also be present. Because treatment of chronic elbow dislocation is challenging, a stepwise approach is used in the evaluation and management of this condition. No large series

Treatment and Return to Sport in Athletes With Scaphoid Fractures: A Narrative Review.

Scaphoid fractures are the most common fracture of the carpal bone and frequently occur in athletic populations due to acute trauma or repetitive wrist loading. Management of these injuries in athletes is challenging because of the need to balance reliable fracture healing with timely return to sport. This narrative review summarizes current literature regarding treatment strategies, healing outcomes, and return-to-sport timelines in athletes with scaphoid fractures. We conducted a literature search using PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL between July 2025 and January 2026. A total of 862 records wer

Isolated Humeral Trochlear Fracture without Associated Elbow Injury: A Rare Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Isolated fractures of the humeral trochlea are exceedingly rare because of the trochlea's deep intra-articular position and anatomical protection from direct trauma. The articular notch formed by the olecranon and coronoid processes shields the trochlea, which also lacks direct muscular or ligamentous attachments. Such fractures typically occur in conjunction with injuries involving the capitellum or the medial and lateral condyles. CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 35-year-old male who sustained an isolated trochlear fracture following a physical assault. Initial anteroposte

Osteosynthesis using a plate lacking the anterior component and canulated cancellous screws to treat an avulsion fracture of the calcaneal tuberosity: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity with significant displacement can cause soft tissue complications in the heel. However, a treatment strategy for calcaneal tuberosity fractures with poor heel-skin condition is yet to be established. Here, we report a case involving avulsion fracture of the calcaneal tuberosity presenting with superficial skin necrosis that was treated with a plate lacking the anterior component and screws inserted percutaneously. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 74-year-old woman presented with progressive right heel pain following an injury to her heel sus

Radial neck fractures in children secondary to horse-riding accidents: a comparative study.

INTRODUCTION: In the pediatric population, fractures of the radial neck account for approximately 1% of all fractures and can have substantial consequences. Given the growing popularity of horse riding and the high-energy traumas that this can entail, we sought to assess prognosis for radial neck fracture sustained in horse riding. HYPOTHESIS: Radial neck fracture sustained in horse riding is more severe and more frequently associated with other ipsilateral osteoarticular lesions which worsen prognosis. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We performed a multicenter retrospective comparative study in a cont

[Current indications for intramedullary bundle nailing].

Hackethal developed the nailing procedure named after him in 1959. The original method consisted in two steps: a non-sterile step in which mechanical reduction was performed with a traction device and a sterile step, i.e. nailing. The rationale of Hackethal nailing is an elastic jamming, which can only be achieved by obeying four rules: jamming of the nails in the cortical window, jamming then in the waist of the medullary cavity, spreading the bunch of nails in the metaphysis and filling up the conus of the medullary cavity with short nails. Hackethal believed it was possible to achieve an el

Transitional fractures of the distal tibia: a minimal access approach for osteosynthesis.

BACKGROUND: Transitional fractures typically occur in patients with partially closed growth plates. In case of displacements >2 mm, osteosynthesis is recommended. Open reduction and stabilization with lag screws is the most common approach. Infection and paraesthesia are common complications of this method. This study describes an alternative approach by closed reduction and cannulated screw fixation. METHODS: All patients with transitional fractures treated by closed reduction and cannulated screw fixation were identified. All patients with >1 year after implant removal were included in this

Functional Outcome of Distal Radius Fractures Managed by Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis: A Prospective Study of 20 Patients.

INTRODUCTION: A distal radius fracture is a common injury that affects people of all ages. However, there are various therapy approaches that are controversial. Casting with or without closed reduction has long been considered a feasible option for treating distal radius fractures; alternative options include K-wire fixation and ligamentotax are with external fixation. However, with limited function and impairments, the results are frequently poor. "Several studies have found that distal radius fractures treated with external fixation have good anatomical and functional outcomes, although ther

The treatment of distal third humeral diaphyseal fractures: Is there still a place for the external fixation?

INTRODUCTION: The treatment for humeral diaphyseal fractures is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of treating humeral distal third diaphyseal fractures by using external fixation technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively review 65 cases of diaphyseal humeral fractures (31 type A, 23 type B and 11 type C of the AO/OTA classification) treated with external fixation (Orthofix FAD small) between 2008 and 2013. The mean follow-up was 48 months (24-72 months). There were 12 open fractures; however, no cases of concomitan

Recommendations for fracture management in patients with osteopetrosis: case report.

INTRODUCTION: Osteopetrosis is caused by general increase in bone density and obliteration of the medullary canal. Fractures are a frequent complication and their management is considered a challenge due to increased resistance to reaming and screw positioning; reduction maneuvers have to be done more carefully to avoid intraoperative fractures, and there is an increased risk of drill breakage. There is also a higher risk of infection and malunion, which increases the incidence of surgical revisions in this population. CASE REPORT: 55-year-old male with osteopetrosis and a history of two prev

[Treatment of Galeazzi's fracture - is the surgical revision of the distal radioulnar joint necessary?].

PURPOSE: Fractures of the radial shaft associated with disruption of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) are termed as Galeazzi-fractures. In Galeazzi's fracture, the aim of treatment is restoring the congruency of the joint and the stability of the DRUJ, thus preventing a loss of pronation or supination. PATIENTS AND METHOD: In this study, we included 24 patients (m = 22, f = 2) with 25 Galeazzi fractures treated between 1980 and 1998. Surgical treatment and the duration of therapy were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical and radiological results of 15 patients were followed up. Two childr

Radial nerve palsies associated with paediatric supracondylar humeral fractures: a caution in the interpretation of neurophysiological studies.

Traumatic and iatrogenic neurological complications associated with paediatric supracondylar humeral fractures are well recognised. The severity of the nerve injury associated with supracondylar humeral fractures can be difficult to assess clinically and relies upon clinical progression or absence of recovery and neurophysiology. It is accepted that complete nerve palsy with neurophysiological complete block and absence of clinical recovery after three months requires surgical exploration and reconstruction. However, we argue that even a partial nerve palsy that is failing to recover as expect
