A digital workflow for fabricating a mandibular guide plane prosthesis for patients about to undergo hemimandibulectomy: A dental technique.

Patients who undergo hemimandibulectomy have multiple functional impairments, and early initiation of guidance therapy has been associated with an improved definitive occlusal relationship. This article describes a digital workflow to determine the angle and form the shape of the flange of the mandibular guide plane prosthesis (MGPP), and to create an MGPP before mandibular resection surgery. A virtual articulator was used to achieve the movements of the maxilla relative to the mandible, and the shape of the MGPP was adjusted by dynamic occlusion. The MGPP and mandibular case were printed usin

Inverse design of skull osteoinductive implants with multi-level pore structures through machine learning.

How to accurately design a personalized matching implant that can induce skull regeneration is the focus of current research. However, the design space for the porous structure of implants is extensive, and the mapping relationships between these structures and their mechanical and osteogenic properties are complex. At present, the forward design of skull implants mainly relies on expert experience, leading to high cost and a lengthy process, while the existing inverse design approaches face challenges due to data dependence and manufacturing process errors. This study presents an efficient in

Recent Advances in Hydrogel-Based 3D Bioprinting and Its Potential Application in the Treatment of Congenital Heart Disease.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect, requiring invasive surgery often before a child's first birthday. Current materials used during CHD surgery lack the ability to grow, remodel, and regenerate. To solve those limitations, 3D bioprinting is an emerging tool with the capability to create tailored constructs based on patients' own imaging data with the ability to grow and remodel once implanted in children with CHD. It has the potential to integrate multiple bioinks with several cell types and biomolecules within 3D-bioprinted constructs that exhibit good structural f

Bioprinting Soft 3D Models of Hematopoiesis using Natural Silk Fibroin-Based Bioink Efficiently Supports Platelet Differentiation.

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) continuously generate platelets throughout one's life. Inherited Platelet Disorders affect ≈ 3 million individuals worldwide and are characterized by defects in platelet formation or function. A critical challenge in the identification of these diseases lies in the absence of models that facilitate the study of hematopoiesis ex vivo. Here, a silk fibroin-based bioink is developed and designed for 3D bioprinting. This bioink replicates a soft and biomimetic environment, enabling the controlled differentiation of HSPCs into platelets. The formulati

Nasal Model Experiments Show That a Collimated Fluid Delivers Precise Doses to the Human Olfactory Cavity in the Side-Laying Position.

The nasal administration of therapeutic fluids and vaccines is used to treat allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, congestion, coronaviruses and even Alzheimer's disease. In the latter, the drug must reach the olfactory region, so it finds its way into the central nervous system. Effective administration techniques able to reach the olfactory region are challenging due to the tortuous anatomy of the nasal cavity, and are frequently evaluated in vitro using transparent anatomical models. Here, the liquid distribution inside a 3D printed human nasal cavity is quantified for model fluids resulting from t

Advances in 3D bioprinting for urethral tissue reconstruction.

Urethral conditions affect children and adults, increasing the risk of urinary tract infections, voiding and sexual dysfunction, and renal failure. Current tissue replacements differ from healthy urethral tissues in structural and mechanical characteristics, causing high risk of postoperative complications. 3D bioprinting can overcome these limitations through the creation of complex, layered architectures using materials with location-specific biomechanical properties. This review highlights prior research and describes the potential for these emerging technologies to address ongoing challeng

Development and systematic characterization of GelMA/alginate/PEGDMA/xanthan gum hydrogel bioink system for extrusion bioprinting.

Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA)/alginate-based hydrogels have shown great promise in bioprinting, but their printability is limited at room temperature. In this paper, we present our development of a room temperature printable hydrogel bioink by introducing polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) and xanthan gum into the GelMA/alginate system. The inclusion of PEGDMA facilitates tuning of the hydrogel's mechanical property, while xanthan gum improves the viscosity of the hydrogel system and allows easy extrusion at room temperature. To fine-tune the mechanical and degradation properties, meth

Optimization of culture duration of bone marrow cells before transplantation with a β-tricalcium phosphate/recombinant collagen peptide hybrid scaffold.

INTRODUCTION: Currently, various kinds of materials are used for the treatment of bone defects. In general, these materials have a problem of formativeness. The three -dimensional (3D) printing technique has been introduced to fabricate artificial bone with arbitrary shapes, but poor bone replacement is still problematic. Our group has created a β⁻tricalcium phosphate (β⁻TCP) scaffold by applying 3D printing technology. This scaffold has an arbitrary shape and an internal structure suitable for cell loading, growth, and colonization. The scaffold was coated with a recombinant collagen peptide (

Sequential stenciling to reconstitute 2D microtissues for multicellular and synthetic signaling architectures.

In mammalian organisms, native tissue function depends on precise spatial organization down to the cellular level. Reconstituting tissue architectures in 2Dinvivoplatforms can provide a means to study direct and indirect cell-cell interactions in a variety of tissue contexts while remaining compatible with high-throughput assays and high-resolution live imaging. We combine cost-effective stereolithography leveraging 3D printing with replica molding to stencil spatially defined, multicellular culture systems with sub-millimeter resolution onto planar substrates. The system is designed for ease

Advances in the Application of Additive Manufacturing in Respiratory Inhalation Therapy.

Inhalation therapy has become a cornerstone in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cystic fibrosis, owing to its rapid onset, direct pulmonary targeting, and avoidance of first-pass metabolism. Its clinical scope has expanded beyond conventional respiratory indications to emerging applications, including vaccine delivery, systemic disease management, and localized tumor therapy. However, traditional inhalation systems are often designed for the average patient, overlooking physiological variability that results in inconsistent drug d
