AI framework for DRIVE model based mental health detection in text: a case study on how coping strategies are expressed during COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: This article defines an artificial intelligence framework to detect individual's mental health (MH) status on social networks. The proposed framework, which consists of four main modules, aims to analyze the emotions that are expressed by social network users in their text posts and identify their mental coping strategies, resources, and demands based on The Demands-Resources-Individual Effects (DRIVE) model. Although sentiment analysis (SA) is effective in analyzing the polarity of the text, it is limited in detecting the mental health status in terms of the coping strategies, ava

Nuanced gendered perceptions and health behaviors of both women and men play a significant role in women's health. Our study analyzed gender differences on perceptions of gender roles, discrimination, cancer attitudes, cancer stigma, and influences in healthcare decision making within our study population to inform ongoing cervical cancer prevention work in the rural region of Kédougou, Sénégal. We conducted a cross-sectional survey

The Ripple Effect: A Qualitative Overview of Challenges When Growing Up in Families Affected by Huntington's Disease.

BACKGROUND: The average age for the onset of Huntington's disease (HD) is an age when many people have children and caretaking responsibilities; HD is therefore likely to impact the whole family, including children and adolescents. Despite an increased understanding of the challenges for young people of growing up in a family affected by HD, a continuing lack of available knowledge has led to inadequate youth-focused support in many countries. OBJECTIVE: This study explored the risks of growing up in a family affected by HD, and provided a participant-generated overview of the main challenges

Effect of provincial spending on social services and health care on health outcomes in Canada: an observational longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Escalating health care spending is a concern in Western countries, given the lack of evidence of a direct connection between spending and improvements in health. We aimed to determine the association between spending on health care and social programs and health outcomes in Canada. METHODS: We used retrospective data from Canadian provincial expenditure reports, for the period 1981 to 2011, to model the effects of social and health spending (as a ratio, social/health) on potentially avoidable mortality, infant mortality and life expectancy. We used linear regressions, accounting f

The counselor's trauma as counseling motivation: vulnerability or stress inoculation?

Should counselors with interpersonal trauma histories work with similarly traumatized clients? How does the work affect them? Current research is inconsistent. This study examines 101 sexual assault and domestic violence counselors' recalled motivations for trauma work, their reported subjective personal changes, and their secondary and vicarious trauma symptoms and burnout. Counselors motivated by interpersonal trauma report both more symptoms and positive changes (including dealing with their own trauma). Those seeking personal meaning report becoming more hypervigilant and self-isolating. T

Access to and quality of health and social care for rare diseases: patients' and caregivers' experiences.

People suffering from rare diseases, independently of the condition, often experience the same problems in receiving adequate health and social care. It is not clear how these problems differ in severity among different diseases and in different countries and how they change in time. In the framework of the NEPHIRD (Network of Public Health Institutions on Rare Diseases), a European project, funded by DG-SANCO (EU Commission), an effort was made to develop a simple but comprehensive tool to show patients' and/or caregivers' opinions about the quality and accessibility of health and social serv

Staff Experiences in an Early Pregnancy Unit: Factors Impacting their Work and Quality of Care.

AIMS: Early pregnancy units (EPU) function to manage complications of early pregnancy and are staffed by midwives, sonographers and doctors. Research has shown working in an EPU may result in stress and burnout because of caring for women and their partners experiencing pregnancy loss. This study examined work-related demands and job satisfaction of staff in two different EPU models. METHODS: All EPU staff in a tertiary maternity hospital were invited to complete an online mixed-methods survey. Data were collected in August-September 2023 while the EPU was onsite at the maternity hospital and

Building the foundations for an international patient-centred outcomes set for psoriasis: A scoping study.

BACKGROUND: Value-based healthcare emphasizes outcomes that matter to patients, and patient-centred outcomes sets are vital to its success. For psoriasis, initial work proposed a patient-centred outcomes set in Belgium, but it requires further validation to ensure international applicability. OBJECTIVES: This scoping study aimed to refine the outcomes set in collaboration with patient representatives and dermatologists, in preparation for international validation through a Delphi consensus process. METHODS: An international Working Group of patient representatives and dermatologists was esta
