Microneedle-mediated intelligent combination delivery for hair regeneration: A comprehensive review of technologies, mechanistic evidence, and translational prospects.

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent hair-loss disorder with substantial psychosocial burden, while current treatments such as topical minoxidil and oral finasteride remain limited by insufficient follicular delivery, long-term adherence requirements, local irritation, systemic adverse effects, and recurrence after discontinuation. Microneedle (MN) technology offers a minimally invasive local intervention strategy by bypassing the stratum corneum, enhancing follicular exposure, reducing unnecessary systemic distribution, and providing mechanical stimulation to the scalp microenvironment.

Beyond uniform repair: making operative intent explicit in large paraesophageal hernias.

Large paraesophageal hernias represent a heterogeneous clinical entity, with variation in anatomical configuration, symptom profile, esophageal physiology, and patient-related operative risk. Unlike many other heterogeneous surgical conditions, a single anatomical problem may compromise multiple functional systems simultaneously, including gastric transit, reflux physiology, and respiratory function. Despite this multi-system involvement, contemporary literature and practice frequently evaluate these patients as a single group, applying uniform operative paradigms and outcome measures that do

Integrated metabolomics and metagenomics reveal divergent caecal metabolic signatures following commercial gut health interventions in broilers.

BACKGROUND: The intensification of food production systems highlights the need for poultry gut health strategies aligned with One Health goals. Central to this is a balanced gut microbiota, which supports nutrient absorption, immunity, and disease resilience. RESULTS: We applied integrative multi-omics, combining untargeted LC-MS metabolomics and shotgun metagenomics, to explore the caecal responses of commercial Ross-308 broilers to two widely used gut health interventions: ionophore supplementation (T1) and anticoccidial vaccination (T2). Across 7,554 detected metabolites, we identified can

Designing the Future of Hemostasis.

Bleeding disorders arising from dysfunctional platelet-protein interactions pose a significant clinical challenge due to their heterogeneity and complexity. Primary hemostasis is mediated by von Willebrand factor (VWF) and platelet surface receptors GPIbα and αIIbβ3. This protein triad is central to clot formation, and interfering with their associated activity can cause several primary hemostasis-related disorders. While traditional therapies, including factor replacement and monoclonal antibodies, have improved outcomes, they are often limited by availability, cost, immunogenicity, and inade

The pathophysiology of depression in Huntington's disease.

Depression affects Huntington's disease (HD) gene-expansion carriers at up to four times the general population rate, yet its neurobiological underpinnings remain inadequately understood, potentially contributing to persistent symptoms and suboptimal therapeutic outcomes, despite commonly used interventions. Understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms remains constrained by fragmented, single-level approaches that do not capture interactions between biological systems. Here, we present an illustrative multilevel, reciprocal pathophysiological framework that integrates evidence across br

The Roles of Tacit Knowledge Integration and Cognitive Resource Conservation in Fostering Sustainable Innovation.

Sustainable human resource management focuses on creating work systems that support long-term employee effectiveness, knowledge use, and innovation while protecting cognitive resources. This study uses the Conservation of Resources theory to explore whether strategic laziness, deliberately saving mental energy by choosing tasks carefully, encourages innovative work behavior (IWB). The research used structural equation modeling to test a moderated mediation model. Results show that strategic laziness does not have a significant direct effect on IWB (β = 0.071, p = 0.112). Instead, it works indi

Recent Advances in CRISPR/Cas Systems for Respiratory Pathogen Diagnostics.

Early, rapid, and accurate detection is essential for clinical management and epidemiological control of acute respiratory infections caused by pathogens. Traditional testing methods such as microbial culture, serological testing, and PCR are restrictive in terms of operation and logistics and are therefore not easily used in point-of-care settings. The CRISPR/Cas system is an adaptive prokaryotic immune system composed of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats and their associated proteins, which has been used as a nucleic acid diagnostic platform with programmable sequence

Biphasic Co-Delivery of Curcumin and 5-FU using 3D-Printed Dissolving Microneedles for Skin Cancer Therapy.

Dissolving microneedle (MN) arrays are a minimally invasive strategy for localized transdermal chemotherapy; however, their translation is limited by drug loading, reproducible dosing, and the difficulty of incorporating chemically distinct drugs into printable matrices. Although MN-mediated delivery of curcumin and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) has previously been reported using inkjet/coating-based approaches, those systems deposit drug formulations onto preformed solid MNs and are therefore constrained by surface coating uniformity, limited matrix integration, possible drug loss during handling, an

"I want what the white lady gets…": Deconstructing racial disparities in gynecological cancer.

Despite decades of diversity and inclusion initiatives in healthcare, racial disparities in gynecological cancer diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes persist and, in some cases, are worsening. Black women continue to experience later-stage diagnoses, diminished provider communication, and poorer survivorship outcomes. This paper presents findings from five focus groups conducted with individuals (n = 26) diagnosed with gynecologic cancers, guided by an intersectional lens rooted in Black feminist theory. Using thematic analysis, four recurring themes emerged: (1) diagnostic delays and dismissal,

Artificial Intelligence for Endoscopic Diagnosis of Gastric Premalignant Lesions.

Gastric cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The Correa cascade posits that intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinoma develops through a stepwise progression from chronic gastritis to atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia, highlighting the importance of early detection of premalignant lesions. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly convolutional neural network-based deep-learning models, in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy has been expanding rapidly. This review examines the current role of such models in the endoscopic diagnosis of ch

Engineering human myelin microphysiological systems for testing patient treatment response in multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system characterized by neuroinflammation, demyelination, and neurodegeneration, associated with a complex interplay between the innate and adaptive immune systems. Currently, no cure is available for MS, and personalized disease-modifying treatment remains largely limited, partially due to the lack of preclinical human models that can faithfully recapitulate disease pathology and evaluate treatment responses at the individual-patient level. Here, we report a human myelin microphysiological system (myelin MPS) platform tha

Microplastics as Emerging Contaminants and Human Health: Exploring Functional Nutrition in Gastric-Colon-Brain Axis Cancer.

Microplastics (MPs), emerging contaminants of significant global concern, have a substantially increased environmental impact due to their biological persistence and accumulation in the body. Exposure to MPs has been associated with oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, and cellular dysfunction, notably affecting critical tissues such as the stomach, colon, and brain. This review explores the correlation between MPs and cancer risk along the gastric-colon-brain axis, identifying the signaling pathways altered by MP exposure. Furthermore, it highlights the role of functional nutrition and bi

Autonomous 3D Self-Sensing Hybrid Membrane Actuator for Interactive Communicating.

The advancement of intelligent soft actuators is progressively emphasizing the incorporation of environmental sensing capability to actuation, thereby enhancing the adaptability and interactivity of artificial systems. In the current situation where the sensing and actuation functions of soft actuators are generally separated, this work proposes an autonomous three-dimensional (3D) noncontact sensory actuator (NSA), based on the coupling of ″dielectric polarization-electrothermal conversion-thermal actuation″ triple effects. Specifically, the NSA hybrid membrane is composed of multiple interpe

Real-world patient outcomes with Blinatumomab and Inotuzumab in adult relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a retrospective analysis from two Romanian oncology centers.

INTRODUCTION: The management of adult relapsed/refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R B-ALL) remains a significant challenge, with patients presenting particularly poor historical outcomes. Novel immunotherapies, such as Blinatumomab and Inotuzumab, have revived the therapeutic landscape of R/R B-ALL, but their optimal sequencing, toxicity management, and post-transplant integration remain unclear, particularly in real-world, resource-limited settings. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 33 adult patients with R/R B-ALL treated between 2019 and 2023 at two major onc
