Immunologic parameters were evaluated in 22 patients with alcoholic liver disease (ALD). In this study, the immunoregulation of IgG and IgM synthesis by synovial fluid lymphocytes (SFL) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was investigated. A group of 15 sero-positive rheumatoids with a level of lymphocytes in the joint effusion fluids greater than 40% were selected. An IgM monoclonal antibody directed against the T-cell E-rosette receptor was obtained by preparing a hybridoma against cells of a human T-cell leukemia line, HPB-ALL. Using a reverse hemolytic plaque assay as the effector system, we studied B-lymphocyte function in 12 patients after posttraumatic splenectomy, as well as in 25 normal individuals. In ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and in yersinia arthritis the main findings in serum immunoglobulin (Ig) studies have been raised IgA in AS and a high anti-yersinia IgA and IgG response and the persistence of IgA class antibodies in yersinia arthritis. In order to study predisposition to high IgA response in AS and yersinia arthritis we measured the in-vitro Ig production in patients with AS and in persons who have once had yersinia arthritis, and we compared it with the Ig production in persons who have had yersiniosis but recovered without getting arthritis and with that in healthy controls.
