BACKGROUND: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for bulimia nervosa (BN) is most effective when patients demonstrate adequate skill utilization (ie, the frequency with which a patient practices or uses therapeutic skills) and skill acquisition (ie, the ability to successfully perform a skill learned in treatment). However, rates of utilization and acquisition of key treatment skills (eg, regular eating, urge management skills, and mood management skills) by the end of the treatment are frequently low; as a result, outcomes from CBT for BN are affected. Just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAI

BACKGROUND: Digital development has caused rehabilitation services and rehabilitees to become increasingly interested in using technology as a part of rehabilitation. This study was based on a previously published study that categorized 4 groups of patients with cardiac disease based on different experiences and attitudes toward technology (e-usage groups): feeling outsider, being uninterested, reflecting benefit, and enthusiastic using.
OBJECTIVE: This study identifies differences in the biopsychosocial profiles of patients with cardiac disease in e-usage groups and deepen the understanding

BACKGROUND: Gender-based violence against women in Sub-Saharan Africa is highly prevalent, with profound mental health consequences including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety. Despite growing recognition of this public health crisis, evidence on mental health interventions remains fragmented across countries and populations, with limited synthesis of what interventions work, for whom, and under what conditions in African contexts.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically map and synthesize evidence on mental health interventions for women who have experienced violence across

BACKGROUND: Growing evidence suggests that mental health issues heavily impact Muslims, the largest, fastest growing minority religious group in the UK. High prevalence of anxiety and depression has been reported in young women aged 18 to 30 largely from Bangladeshi and Pakistani Muslim communities in Britain. Evidence suggests that incorporating religious and culturally adapted interventions may improve their effectiveness for Muslim populations, but their feasibility for young women in UK contexts is uncertain. This study aims to test whether a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of a faith-ba

Given the alarming increase in incidences of child sexual abuse (CSA), the present study was conceived to conduct a feasibility trial for a brief CSA-focused cognitive-behavioral intervention for children. A quasi-experimental single-group pre-post design with convenient sampling was adopted. The intervention module was administered to 20 children aged 7-13 years (M = 10.4, SD = 1.3) with a CSA history. The intervention was spread across a minimum of six required sessions and a maximum of 12 sessions held weekly for approximately 90 to 120 minutes' duration to restore the child's functioning a

INTRODUCTION: Achondroplasia is a common skeletal dysplasia caused by a mutation in the FGFR3 gene, leading to disproportionate short stature and various clinical features. Despite the absence of definitive pharmacological treatments, mindfulness-based interventions may offer psychosocial benefits for affected individuals and their families.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and psychosocial effects of an online mindfulness intervention for children and adolescents with achondroplasia and their parents.
METHODOLOGY: The intervention was an eight-week, synchronous online

INTRODUCTION: Functional cognitive disorder (FCD) is seen increasingly in clinics commissioned to assess cognitive disorders. Patients report frequent cognitive, especially memory, failures. The diagnosis can be made clinically, and unnecessary investigations avoided. While there is some evidence that psychological treatments can be helpful, they are not routinely available. Therefore, we have developed a brief psychological intervention using the principles of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) that can be delivered in groups and online. We are conducting a feasibility study to assess wh

BACKGROUND: Comorbid depression and/or anxiety symptoms occur in 25% of patients attending cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs and are associated with poorer prognosis. There is a need to evaluate psychological interventions, including meditation, that have potential to improve psychological health in CR programs.
AIMS: The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility and acceptability of integrating a meditation intervention into an existing Australian CR program for the reduction of depression and anxiety symptoms.
METHODS: This was a mixed-methods feasibility randomized controlled

BACKGROUND: Patients with cirrhosis and ascites experience frequent hospital admissions, leading to poor quality of life and high healthcare costs. Monitoring weight is a component of ascites care and telemonitoring may improve outcomes and costs. Goals We aimed to evaluate the cost and outcomes of current care compared to a telemonitoring system for ascites. Study We developed a decision-analytic model that examined 100 simulated patients over a 6-month horizon. We compared usual care to a new telemonitoring program, which we estimate costs $50,000/6 months.
RESULTS: The cost of standard of

Taenia solium taeniosis/cysticercosis was declared eradicable by the International Task Force for Disease Eradication in 1993, but remains a neglected zoonosis. To assist in the attempt to regionally eliminate this parasite, we developed cystiSim, an agent-based model for T. solium transmission and control. The model was developed in R and available as an R package (http://cran.r-project.org/package=cystiSim). cystiSim was adapted to an observed setting using field data from Tanzania, but adaptable to other settings if necessary. The model description adheres to the Overview, Design concepts,

PURPOSE: The rate of adherence to regular colonoscopy screening in individuals at increased familial risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) is suboptimal, especially among rural and other geographically underserved populations. Remote interventions may overcome geographic and system-level barriers. We compared the efficacy of a telehealth-based personalized risk assessment and communication intervention with a mailed educational brochure for improving colonoscopy screening among at-risk relatives of patients with CRC.
METHODS: Eligible individuals age 30 to 74 years who were not up-to-date with risk

BACKGROUND: There is a high burden of stroke, including recurrent stroke, in India. We aimed to assess the effect of a structured semi-interactive stroke prevention package in patients with subacute stroke to reduce recurrent strokes, myocardial infarction, and death.
METHODS: This was a multicentre, randomised, clinical trial conducted in 31 centres of the Indian Stroke Clinical Trial Network (INSTRuCT). Adult patients with first stroke and access to a mobile cellular device were randomly allocated (1:1) to intervention and control groups by the research coordinators at each centre using a c

BACKGROUND: Glaucoma is a chronic disease of the optic nerve and a leading cause of severe visual loss in the UK. Once patients have been diagnosed, they need regular monitoring at hospital eye services. Recent advances in technology mean patients with glaucoma can now monitor their disease at home. This could be more convenient for patients and potentially reduce costs and increase capacity for the NHS. However, it is uncertain whether self-monitoring would be acceptable or possible for patients with glaucoma.
OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to: identify which patients are most appropriate f

BACKGROUND: This correspondence is a commentary to the recently published report from the OSAN trial by Fiedorowicz et al. but with applicability to the broader research involving blue-blocking glasses and patients in a manic episode.
METHOD: Clinical studies on dark therapy are still rare, and we read with great interest the report from the OSAN trial published in Journal of Affective Disorders the 1st of April 2026.
RESULTS: The sample was significantly higher in manic symptoms, more medicated and less adherent to the intervention than in preceding studies on effects of dark therapy for ma

Hypertension constitutes a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Globally, the management and control of hypertension remain suboptimal. At present, pharmacological intervention is a critical strategy for patients with hypertension to achieve blood pressure regulation. Nevertheless, inadequate adherence to prescribed medication significantly impedes effective blood pressure control. Renal denervation (RDN) has emerged as a minimally invasive intervention that has the potential to achieve long-term reduction in blood pressure. Many preclinical and clinical trials have validated the eff

Severe postoperative pain can lead to chronic pain and long-term opioid use, increasing the risk of addiction. This study evaluated the feasibility and effects of therapeutic hypnosis (TH) compared to standard care (SC) on postoperative pain and opioid use in shoulder replacement surgery. Sixty-four out of 96 eligible participants were enrolled. Forty-nine completed the study; 25 received TH, and 24 received SC. TH participants listened to a hypnosis audio recording starting 7 days prior to surgery. Ninety-seven percent adhered to the treatment by accessing the recording at least once before s

This protocol describes a novel surgical model to study nerve pain and surgical treatment in rats. Traditional neuroma models use mixed nerves, although it is most often the case that sensory nerves give rise to painful neuromas in the clinical setting. By selecting the saphenous nerve, this approach reflects the clinical reality of neuroma formation and provides a relevant platform for evaluating surgical strategies. This method aims to replicate the pathophysiology of human neuroma formation and to evaluate a common surgical intervention for neuroma pain, particularly targeted muscle reinner
