Since its introduction in the neurosurgical field, neuroendoscopy has played an important role in the treatment of pineal germ cell tumors. The authors report a case of pineal germinoma revealing spontaneous regression before neuroendoscopic surgery. A 15-year-old boy presented with chronic headache, deterioration of his visual acuity, and diplopia. Head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a large tumor in the pineal region and triventricular hydrocephalus due to occlusion of the aqueduct. As levels of tumor markers in serum and cerebrospinal fluid, including those of alpha-fetoprotein,

The treatment of a dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) depends on the severity of the symptoms, its angiographic characteristics, and the risk it presents for intracranial hemorrhage. In many instances, therapy may involve a combination of more than one modality. Low-risk DAVFs, either incidental or with minimal symptoms, can be treated conservatively (observation, blood pressure control, manual carotid compressions). If the patient does not tolerate the symptoms, definite or palliative treatment can be offered. All high-risk DAVFs (Borden Grade II or III) should receive treatment because they

BACKGROUND: Discrete extraocular muscle (EOM) metastasis is rarely reported. Clinical signs and symptoms of EOM metastasis can often be indistinguishable from primary idiopathic orbital myositis, posing a significant clinical challenge.
CASE REPORT: A case of a 61-year-old man with acute-onset unilateral periorbital pain and diplopia is presented. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an isolated edematous superior rectus/levator muscle complex with an isointense T2-weighted signal, supporting a diagnosis of orbital myositis. He was started on corticosteroids, with resolution of pain and improved

INTRODUCTION: Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare, nonencapsulated, benign neoplasm typically diagnosed in adolescent boys. Surgery is the usual treatment modality for JNA. The optimal surgical procedure should allow maximal exposure of the tumor for complete excision with minimum morbidity. One possible surgical approach is Le Fort I maxillary osteotomy. The aim of this study was to review our experience with the Le Fort I osteotomy and to investigate the feasibility of this approach for extensive JNA invaded into pterygopalatine and infratemporal fossae.

A distinct pathologic entity characterized by expression of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) protein (hence described as ALK lymphoma) has emerged within the heterogeneous group of CD30 anaplastic large-cell lymphomas. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement is extremely rare in anaplastic large-cell lymphoma. In children, only isolated cases have been reported, mainly as secondary CNS involvement. We report on a 13-year-old boy presenting with headaches and diplopia. Cerebrospinal fluid was infiltrated with atypical large granular lymphocytes. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain reve
