Balancing adversariality and naturalness in autonomous vehicle testing scenario generation via multi-objective reinforcement learning.

Reinforcement learning (RL)-based adversarial scenario generation through dynamic agent-environment interactions has emerged as a promising approach for accelerating autonomous vehicle (AV) testing. However, existing RL approaches struggle to balance adversariality and naturalness because naturalistic driving behaviors avoid risk whereas adversarial behaviors intentionally induce it. The reward-driven nature of RL can further lead to objective polarization under linearly weighted rewards, resulting in scenarios biased toward a limited range of adversariality-naturalness trade-offs. HRV-Based Surrogate Classification in Surgical Environments Using Personalised Labelling and Sequence Modelling.

Accurate monitoring of stress and workload in surgical environments is essential for improving performance and patient safety. Physiological signals, particularly heart rate variability (HRV), offer a promising approach for objective and continuous stress assessment. However, existing studies often rely on population-level models, limited temporal analysis, and evaluation strategies that may not reflect real-world generalisation. This study proposes an end-to-end pipeline for HRV-based classification of HRV-derived surrogate stress-like states in surgical settings, combining personalised featu

Dual-Level Domain Alignment Meets Fine-Grained Contrast: Advancing Cross-Scene Few-Shot Hyperspectral Image Classification.

In hyperspectral image classification, existing cross-domain few-shot learning (CDFSL) approaches primarily focus on feature-level adaptation yet often neglect distribution-level shifts, which restricts the model's transferability across different domains. This limitation is further exacerbated in challenging environments like coastal wetlands, where highly mixed vegetation, significant intra-class spectral variability, and strong inter-class similarity result in severe inter-class overlap and intra-class dispersion. To address these challenges, we propose a cross-domain few-shot HSI classific

Nurses' Career Progression and Career Success: A Scoping Review of Conceptualisation and Associated Workforce Conditions.

BACKGROUND: Conceptual inconsistency exists in nursing literature, with career progression, career advancement, career success, professional development and career fulfilment defined and applied in varying ways. This ambiguity blurs important distinctions and limits the comparison and interpretation of findings. This scoping review mapped how career progression and career success have been conceptualised and measured and synthesised the organisational and workforce factors reported in relation to these outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review using the Arksey and O'Malley framework. P

Impact of sexual and gender minority (SGM) identity on specialty choice, career trajectory and the physician workforce: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals remain underrepresented across several medical specialties and leadership positions. Training environments in medical school and residency may shape specialty choice and career development for SGM individuals through experiences of discrimination and pressures related to identity disclosure. The literature remains fragmented across stages of training and specialties, limiting understanding of how these factors collectively shape physician workforce composition. We aim to investigate and synthesise the existing literature examining the

Photoperiod and light quality shape flowering and photosynthesis in common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench).

Common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) is cultivated across diverse environments in which photoperiod and light quality influence plant development and productivity. This study evaluated the effects of short-day (10 h light/14 h dark) and long-day (16 h light/8 h dark) conditions applied during the first 25 days of growth on flowering, photosynthetic performance, and yield formation in the cultivar 'Panda'. Plants were grown in phytotron chambers under blue- and red-enriched LED illumination and contrasting photoperiods, while plants grown under greenhouse daylight served as a control.

Research on surface crack segmentation and quantitative degradation assessment in alpine meadows based on UAV imagery and the YOLO-AMSC model.

Cracks in the mattic epipedon of alpine meadows are a key morphological indicator of ecosystem degradation. However, the accurate extraction of these minute and irregular crack features remains a significant challenge in complex natural environments characterized by vegetation cover, drastic fluctuations in light intensity, and soil texture interference. To address these challenges, a novel deep learning network, YOLO-AMSC, is proposed for the high-precision segmentation and morphological quantification of cracks in the mattic epipedon of alpine meadows under complex field environments. Utilizing virtual reality to improve ICU visual displays.

OBJECTIVE: Intensive care unit (ICU) clinicians respond to over 900 alarms per day, resulting in sensory overload that leads to delayed and inaccurate clinician responses. Integrating vital signs into object-based visual displays has been shown to yield quicker and more accurate responses than standard ICU alarm displays. We designed a ring-based visual alarm system that integrates heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), and peripheral oxygen sat-uration (SpO2) and evaluated its effectiveness using a virtual reality (VR) testing environment. VR offers significant advantages over traditional setu

Conveyor belt foreign object detection method based on improved YOLOv11 and ESRGAN.

Traditional conveyor belt object detection methods often lack robustness and adaptability under challenging conditions such as low-light and low-resolution environments. This study proposes an improved detection method specifically designed for conveyor belt environments, built upon the YOLOv11 object detection framework. A custom dataset was created to support foreign object detection on factory conveyor belts. To overcome the low resolution of image recognition, the Enhanced Super- Resolution Generative Adversarial Network (ESRGAN) was employed to improve the input image clarity. Additionall

Context-dependent feature modulation shapes human decision policies in approach-avoidance conflicts.

Sequential decisions often involve trade-offs between immediate rewards and future risks, particularly in approach-avoidance contexts. While such behavior is commonly framed in terms of optimization principles, it remains unclear how decision processes adapt across contexts. We developed a sequential foraging task in which participants made binary choices under probabilistic reward and predation risk (threat). The design dissociated reward probability from threat and enabled formal comparison of decision-relevant features (e.g., reward and threat probabilities), a multi-feature policy, and a m

Expert Perspectives on Professional Standards Education for Veterinary Nurses: A Four-Round Fully Qualitative Delphi Technique.

Veterinary nurses in the United Kingdom, alongside other stakeholders, have long sought recognition as professionals in their own right. A key element of this professionalism is the existence of a formal register, held by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). UK preregistration programs must include professional standards education to meet RCVS accreditation requirements. However, the extent to which students are effectively prepared to use the RCVS Code of Conduct and uphold professional behaviors remains uncertain. This study explored perceptions of educators and service users reg

Edge Intelligence-Driven Bearing Fault Diagnosis: A Lightweight Anti-Noise Diagnostic Framework.

Edge intelligence enables significant latency reduction and enhances the timeliness of model-based fault diagnosis. However, existing deep learning-driven bearing fault diagnosis models are ill-suited for deployment on edge devices, primarily due to three critical limitations: (1) Lightweight models typically exhibit inadequate anti-noise performance, failing to meet the reliability requirements of real-world engineering scenarios. (2) Models with superior anti-noise capabilities often demand high-performance hardware for operation, thereby restricting their deployment on resource-constrained
