INTRODUCTION: Invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) may contribute to the development and progression of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients. Given the expanding evidence-base and the immense variation in the association described, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic era, a rigorous synthesis is warranted. This systematic review and meta-analysis will evaluate this association and identify potential risk-mitigation strategies.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will conduct a comprehensive search of databases, including Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science

PURPOSE: Emerging evidence links gut microbiota dysbiosis and its metabolites to atherosclerosis. This systematic review aims to synthesize prospective evidence on the association of gut microbiota and its metabolites with prognosis in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients.
METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library was conducted from inception to January 21, 2026. Prospective cohort studies, nested case-control studies, or prospective case-control studies reporting associations between gut microbiota features or metabolite levels and major advers

OBJECTIVE: Atypical femoral fracture is rare. We evaluated whether lumbar spine-hip T-score discordance, a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry-derived densitometric phenotype, is enriched among atypical femoral fracture cases compared with controls.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, KoreaMed, and RISS were searched from inception to December 31, 2025. Comparative studies of adults with American Society for Bone and Mineral Research-defined atypical femoral fracture that reported lumbar spine and femoral neck T-scores with discordance data were included. BACKGROUND: The surgical treatment of rectal cancer is based on the principle of total mesorectal excision (TME). Owing to its technological advantages, robot-assisted total mesorectal excision (R-TME) is hypothesized to facilitate primary anastomosis more frequently than laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (L-TME). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate whether R-TME is associated with a higher likelihood of restorative surgery compared with L-TME.
METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. The protocol was

OBJECTIVES: Curcumin has attracted considerable attention due to its multi-target anti-tumor properties and favorable safety profile. However, preclinical studies in breast cancer are challenged by considerable model heterogeneity and inconsistent findings. The objective of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the anti-tumor efficacy and safety of curcumin through systematic analysis and synthesis of animal experimental evidence, aiming to establish a theoretical foundation for clinical translation.
METHODS: Randomized controlled animal studies were systematically searched through PubMed

Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most prevalent malignancies in men. Although standard treatments, including surgery, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and radiotherapy, enhance survival, they frequently induce adverse effects such as muscle wasting, increased body fat mass, fatigue, and diminished quality of life. Exercise has emerged as a promising non-pharmacological intervention; however, the comparative efficacy of various exercise modalities remains inconclusive. A systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis were conducted to assess the effects of diverse exercise intervent

BACKGROUND: Older adults remain highly vulnerable to serious influenza-related complications despite routine vaccination. Whether high-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (HD-QIV) offers greater protection than standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (SD-QIV) against clinically important outcomes remains an important question.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and pairwise meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing HD-QIV with SD-QIV in adults aged 65 years or older. PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched up to February 2026

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of different exercise modalities on lower-limb balance and functional motor performance after stroke and to examine their nonlinear dose-response relationships to identify potentially optimal exercise doses using a Bayesian network meta-analysis.
METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and SPORTDiscus identified 54 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). A Bayesian random-effects dose-response network meta-analysis examined associations between total exercise dose, exercise modalities, and lower-limb balance and func

Background: Motor imagery (MI) and mirror therapy (MT) are widely used neurorehabilitation strategies to enhance motor recovery after stroke and are commonly applied as adjuncts to conventional rehabilitation therapy (CRT). However, direct comparative evidence between these interventions remains limited. This systematic review compared the effects of MI and MT on motor function, functional performance, spasticity, and gait-related outcomes in adults after stroke. Methods: A systematic comparative review with narrative synthesis was conducted following PRISMA guidelines and registered in PROSPE

OBJECTIVE: Current meta-analysis was performed to systematically evaluate the survival outcomes and tumor response of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) for unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA).
METHOD: A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Medline (Ovid), Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library databases. The primary outcomes were overall survival and progression-free survival (PFS) expressed as hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The secondary outcomes were response rates.
RESULT: Nine retrospective cohort studies wi

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Despite major therapeutic advances, many patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) continue to experience inadequate treatment response, progressive disease, and irreversible complications requiring surgery. Current management is constrained by a biological efficacy ceiling and lack of agents directly targeting key drivers of fibrosis and barrier dysfunction. This systematic review synthesizes current knowledge on tumor necrosis factor-like cytokine 1A (TL1A) and death-domain receptor 3 (DR3) signaling pathways, critically evaluates the therapeutic potential of TL1A-t

This study evaluated the effects of digital interventions on executive function in middle-aged and older adults with stroke and explored the dose-response relationship between intervention dose and executive function improvement. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify relevant studies. Effect sizes were calculated using Hedges' g, and a three-level random-effects model was fitted using the metafor package in R. Potential dose-response associations and moderator variables were further examined. Nine studies from five countries were includ

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted upper-limb rehabilitation is widely used after stroke, but links to neuroplasticity biomarkers remain uncertain.
OBJECTIVE: To synthesize biomarker evidence after robot-assisted upper-limb training and quantify post-intervention effects versus non-robot comparators.
METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, EBSCOhost, and Scopus from inception to December 31, 2025. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and nonrandomized intervention studies enrolling adults with stroke were eligible if they reported at least one neuroplasticity biomarker.
