Human V α 7.2-J α 33 mucosal-associated invariant T cells in endometrial ectopic tissues tend to produce interferon-gamma: A new player in endometriosis etiology: A case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a chronic estrogen-related inflammatory disorder that is known by proliferating endometrial cells in a place outside the uterus. The high presence of immune cells in the peritoneal fluid of women with endometriosis confirms the involvement of the immune system in the pathogenesis of the disease. Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells play an undeniable impact on mucosal immunity by the production of interleukin-17, interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha. The function of the cells in the pathogenesis of endometriosis is less investigated. OB

Bedaquiline Monotherapy for Multibacillary Leprosy.

BACKGROUND: Standard multidrug therapy for leprosy may be associated with severe side effects, which add to the stigma and discrimination that affect persons with the disease. In addition, the threat posed by drug-resistant leprosy shows the need for alternative drug combinations and shorter, safer regimens of multidrug therapy. METHODS: In this open-label, proof-of-concept study conducted in Brazil, we assigned patients with previously untreated multibacillary leprosy to receive bedaquiline monotherapy for 8 weeks. After completing the 8-week course of bedaquiline, the patients started stand

Long non-coding RNA NBR2 suppresses the progression of colorectal cancer by downregulating miR-19a to regulate M2 macrophage polarization.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that significantly impacts the health of patients and lacks promising methods of diagnosis. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are involved in CRC progression, and their function is regulated by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). The lncRNA NBR2 was recently reported as an oncogene, whose function in CRC remains uncertain. The present study aimed to investigate the biological function of lncRNA NBR2 in the progression of CRC and its underlying molecular mechanisms. Ten pairs of clinical CRC and para-carcinoma tissues were

Pathogenic Mis-splicing of CPEB4 in Schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia (SCZ) is caused by an interplay of polygenic risk and environmental factors, which may alter regulators of gene expression leading to pathogenic misexpression of SCZ risk genes. The CPEB family of RNA-binding proteins (CPEB1-4) regulates translation of target RNAs (approximately 40% of overall genes). We previously identified CPEB4 as a key dysregulated translational regulator in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) because its neuronal-specific microexon (exon 4) is mis-spliced in ASD brains, causing underexpression of numerous ASD risk genes. The genetic factors and patho

Comparative analysis of SARS-CoV-2 detection methods using stool, blood, and nasopharyngeal swab samples.

INTRODUCTION: as a public health policy, the ongoing global coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination drives require continuous tracking, tracing, and testing of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Diagnostic testing is important in virus detection and understanding its spread for timely intervention. This is especially important for low-income settings where the majority of the population remains untested. This is well supported by the fact that of about 9% of the Kenyan population had been tested for the virus. METHODS: this was a cross-sectional study conducted at the

Construction of Ovarian Cancer Prognostic Model Based on the Investigation of Ferroptosis-Related lncRNA.

(1) Background: Ovarian cancer (OV) has the high mortality rate among gynecological cancers worldwide. Inefficient early diagnosis and prognostic prediction of OV leads to poor survival in most patients. OV is associated with ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death. Ferroptosis, believed to be regulated by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), may have potential applications in anti-cancer treatments. In this study, we aimed to identify ferroptosis-related lncRNA signatures and develop a novel model for predicting OV prognosis. (2) Methods: We downloaded data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (

Should Thorax Thin-Section Computed Tomography Be a Standard Diagnostic Procedure in the Evaluation of Potential Kidney Transplant Recipients? Lessons Learned From the COVID-19 Pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Kidney transplant is the preferred treatment for most patients with end-stage renal disease. Because dialyzed patients often have significant comorbidities or multimorbidities, they should be carefully evaluated before being waitlisted for transplant. The COVID-19 pandemic presents a major challenge for surgery, including transplant surgery. Owing to a fear of COVID-19 symptoms occurring in lungs, thin-section computed tomography (TSCT) became a standard evaluation technique in potential kidney transplant recipients before surgery. METHODS: The aim of the study was to evaluate the
