The author designed a study to assess the healing properties of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) after endoscopic sinus surgery in 30 patients with bilateral and symmetrical chronic rhinosinusitis that was refractory to medical management. At the conclusion of each operation, PRP was introduced into the middle meatus of a randomly chosen side, while the other side was treated normally and served as a control. The site of origin of sino-nasal polyps was documented in 113 consecutive patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). This is a report of the use of endoscopic sinus surgery in the management of three patients diagnosed with rhino-orbital or rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis. The A-mode ultrasound is an inexpensive and efficacious screening modality for sinus pathology. A comparison of 690 ultrasound patterns from 200 cases was made with sinus x-ray films and case histories. Excellent correlation was found between the ultrasound patterns and the subsequent diagnosis of a normal sinus or a pathologic sinus containing fluid, thickened mucosa, or a mass. Future areas of potential clinical usefulness and current limitations of this instrument are discussed.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of concha bullosa variation on maxillary sinus volume and uncinate angle.
METHOD: The study group included 169 patients (338 sides) who underwent either surgical or medical treatment with the diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis.
