Papillary vitreous detachment as a possible accomplice in non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy.

AIM: To evaluate the role of papillary vitreous detachment in the pathogenesis of non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION) by comparing the features of vitreopapillary interface between NAION patients and normal individuals. METHODS: This study included 22 acute NAION patients (25 eyes), 21 non-acute NAION patients (23 eyes) and 23 normal individuals (34 eyes). All study participants underwent swept-source optical coherence tomography to assess the vitreopapillary interface, peripapillary wrinkles and peripapillary superficial vessel protrusion. The statistical correlations b

Peripapillary hyperreflective ovoid mass-like structures (PHOMS) in patients with acute Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy.

PURPOSE: Peripapillary hyperreflective ovoid mass-like structures (PHOMS) represent an optical coherence tomography (OCT) finding that has been characterized in different forms of pseudopapilledema. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of PHOMS in patients affected by acute LHON using structural OCT, and to provide a detailed description of these findings. METHODS: Patients with a clinical and molecularly confirmed diagnosis of acute LHON (visual loss having occurred less than 6 months) were enrolled from the neuro-ophthalmology clinic at San Raffaele Scientific Institute.

Ethambutol-induced optic neuropathy.

PURPOSE: A case report of a 40-year-old patient with tuberculosis treated with ethambutol is described. Within six months of starting treatment, there was a painless sudden decline in visual function. Despite the known complications of ethambutol treatment, it was discontinued after another three months. METHODS: In the case report, we highlight the damage to the dominantly peripheral visual pathways. Using electrophysiological examinations, we showed a significant alteration in the optic nerves. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) showed progressive loss of vessel density and nerve fibre laye

Inter-device Agreement and Normative Corneal Parameters in Adolescents and Young Adults: A Structured Narrative Review.

Accurate characterization of the corneal surface is essential for clinical decision-making in optometry and ophthalmology, particularly in the context of myopia management and early detection of ectatic disorders. Optical imaging technologies, including Placido-based topography, Scheimpflug tomography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT), are widely used to assess corneal geometry, yet their measurements are not fully interchangeable. This study was conducted as a structured narrative review that summarizes recent evidence (2020-2025) on inter-device agreement and synthesizes normative corn

Focal choroidal excavation: Review and updated pathogenesis.

Focal choroidal excavation is a morphological abnormality that has been recognized with the widespread application of optical coherent tomography. It can exist alone or in combination with or secondary to other chorioretinopathies, so investigators have applied many classification methods, but its pathogenesis is currently not completely understood. We summarize the latest progress in focal choroidal excavation and offer a rethinking of its pathogenesis.

Keratoconus with Central Serous Chorioretinopathy: A Rare Combination.

Keratoconus and central serous chorioretinopathy are two rare diseases. They can occur together in some individuals. We report a case of a 48-year-old man, who presented to our clinic with decreased visual acuity on his left eye. Physical examination, biomicroscopy, corneal topography, and optical coherence tomography revealed keratoconus and central serous chorioretinopathy. We discuss the possible connection between these two conditions.

Highly calcific in-stent restenosis as a substrate for sirolimus-eluting stent very late stent thrombosis.

We describe a case of very late stent thrombosis with documentation of highly calcific restenosis at optical coherence tomography without clear signs of stent malapposition, neoatherosclerosis disruption, or vascular toxicity to stent polymer. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first reports dealing with highly calcific restenosis as a potential background to very late stent thrombosis.

Isolated foveal hypoplasia without nystagmus.

We report the case of a 23-year-old healthy Caucasian male with isolated foveal hypoplasia without nystagmus. Clinical examination and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography demonstrated the bilateral absence of a foveal depression and the patient was diagnosed with isolated foveal hypoplasia. This is a rare condition which is probably under-diagnosed since it can exist without nystagmus and low vision.

[Unexplained loss of visual acuity in a 22-year-old woman].

Developmental disorders of the fovea are almost always accompanied by loss of visual acuity (VA) and are usually associated with different syndromes. We report on a young female patient with an unclear loss in VA, inconspicuous medical history and normal results for funduscopy, electrophysiology and clinical examinations. The presence of fovea plana could be confirmed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Case Report: A rare case of myopic macular pit mimicking duplication of the optic disc.

INTRODUCTION: Myopic macular pit (MMP) is a rare manifestation of pathologic myopia. Here, we report a case of MMP with optic disc-like features that posed a diagnostic challenge and was misinterpreted as duplication of the optic disc. CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year-old man with high myopia presented with visual impairment. Examination of his right eye revealed an axial length of 30.27 mm and best-corrected visual acuity of counting fingers at 10 cm. Fundus examination revealed a disc-sized pit within the macular atrophy, accompanied by radially oriented retinal and choroidal vessels. Owing to
