Background: Pediatricians support families in establishing healthy behaviors, yet there is limited information on valid and pragmatic questionnaires for assessing weight-related health behaviors in early childhood (≤24 months). The objective of this review is to summarize the evidence on parent-reported measures of weight-related health behaviors and/or parenting practices (e.g., feeding practices, dietary intake, sleep duration/routine, physical activity/sedentary behavior, and screen time) in early childhood. Methods: We conducted a scoping review by searching MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, CINA

The Good Behavior Game (GBG) is a team-based classroom management intervention developed to mitigate disruptive behaviors and promote prosocial behaviors of school-aged children. While the short-term benefits of the GBG are well documented in meta-analyses and systematic reviews, it is less clear for what long-term outcomes the GBG may reduce risk. The goal of this systematic review was to synthesize findings across papers that evaluated the long-term effects of the GBG. A total of 22 papers from 5 original studies examining the influence of the GBG on a myriad of distal outcomes across the li

PURPOSE: In dementia family caregiving, caregiver psychopathology has been frequently identified as a possible risk factor for the use of physically abusive, psychologically abusive, and neglectful behaviors toward care recipients. Yet, the mechanistic role of psychopathology in the use of these behaviors is not understood. The purpose of the current study is to determine the role of caregiver mental health in their daily risk of engaging in physically and psychologically aggressive and neglectful behaviors toward their care recipient with dementia.
METHOD: We used an intensive longitudinal d

BACKGROUND: Play is an indispensable and meaningful activity in children's daily life. Research has shown that autistic children often exhibit differences in play development. The core traits of autism, such as distinct patterns in social interaction and communication, focused interests, and repetitive behaviors, frequently manifest in their play. Therefore, play may serve as an insightful measure of these differences. Unlike previous studies focusing on play behaviors only, we explored other behaviors associated with autism during free play, and constructed a clinical prediction model for eff

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Rejection of care is common in hospitalized persons living with dementia. However, distinguishing between rejection of care behaviors related to care practices or other causes, such as pain or delirium, is challenging. The purpose of this study is to further understand the relationship between rejection of care and pain and delirium in hospitalized patients with dementia by identifying which rejection of care behaviors are associated with pain and delirium.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Care encounters between hospitalized patients with dementia (n = 16) and nursing

Various disturbances of social behavior, such as autism, depression, or posttraumatic stress disorder, have been associated with an altered steroid hormone homeostasis and a dysregulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis. A link between steroid hormone antagonists and the treatment of stress-related conditions has been suggested. We evaluated the effects of stress induction on social behavior in the three chambers and its potential reversibility upon specific steroid hormone antagonism in mice. C57BL/6 mice were stressed twice daily for 8 days by chronic swim testing. Social behavior

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Little research has examined how different types of peer victimization (i.e. school bullying, cyber-bullying, and physical and sexual dating violence) predict sexual risk behaviors and how depression may mediate the relationship of such behaviors with types of peer victimization. Few works have investigated gender differences in these direct and indirect associations as well. This study, therefore, examined gender differences in the direct and indirect associations among four types of peer victimization, depression, and sexual risk behaviors in United States (US) hig

INTRODUCTION: Sexual interest toward prepubescents and pubescents (pedophilia and hebephilia) constitutes a major risk factor for child sexual abuse (CSA) and viewing of child abusive images, i.e., child pornography offenses (CPO). Most child sexual exploitation involving CSA and CPO are undetected and unprosecuted in the "Dunkelfeld" (German: "dark field").
AIM: This study assesses a treatment program to enhance behavioral control and reduce associated dynamic risk factors (DRF) in self-motivated pedophiles/hebephiles in the Dunkelfeld.
METHODS: Between 2005 and 2011, 319 undetected help-se

OBJECTIVE: Numerous studies have discussed the value of including biological outcome measures as a complement to behavioral outcome measures to assess the efficacy of HIV risk-reduction interventions. This article highlights strategies used to minimize the limitations of including both self-reported sexual behaviors and biologically confirmed sexually transmitted diseases as primary outcome measures in an HIV/sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention program for African American serodiscordant couples (Eban).
DESIGN: Couples receiving an HIV intervention condition (Eban) were compared wit

BACKGROUND: Weight-related problems, including obesity, eating disorders, and disordered eating, are major public health problems in adolescents. The identification of shared risk and protective factors for these problems can guide the development of relevant interventions to a broad spectrum of weight-related problems. This paper examines the prevalence and co-occurrence of overweight, binge eating, and extreme weight-control behaviors (vomiting, diet pills, laxatives, and diuretics) in adolescents and identifies shared risk and protective factors from within the socioenvironmental, personal,

BACKGROUND: Because risk perceptions can affect protective behavior and protective behavior can affect risk perceptions, the relations between these 2 constructs are complex and incorrect tests often lead to invalid conclusions.
PURPOSE: To discuss and carry out appropriate tests of 3 easily confused hypotheses: (a). the behavior motivation hypothesis (perceptions of personal risk cause people to take protective action), (b). the risk reappraisal hypothesis (when people take actions thought to be effective, they lower their risk perceptions), and (c). the accuracy hypothesis (risk perceptions

Previous research has shown that the alkylating agent N-ethoxycarbonyl-2-ethoxy-1,2-dihydroquinoline (EEDQ) affects dopamine (DA) synthesis and metabolism in both preweanling and adult rats. In the present study, we attempted to determine the behavioral relevance of EEDQ's presynaptic actions. To that end, 17- and 90-day-old rats were injected with either EEDQ (7.5 mg/kg, IP) or its vehicle 30 min after half the rats were pretreated with the selective DA antagonists SCH 23390 and sulpiride. (SCH 23390/sulpiride pretreatment was used to protect D1 and D2 receptors from EEDQ-induced inactivation

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a neuropsychiatric condition characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts and behaviors. Our study uses a validated 8-OH-DPAT-induced experimental model of OCD in rodents. We focus on the modulatory effects of Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which are linked to neurodevelopment and survival. Current research investigates melatonin, a molecule with neuroprotective properties and multiple functions. Melatonin has beneficial effects on various illnesses, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and depression, indicati

OBJECTIVES: Decades of research have convincingly shown that fear of pain and pain-related avoidance behavior are important precursors of disability in daily life. Reduced activity as a consequence of avoidance, however, cannot be blamed for chronic disability in all patients. A contrasting behavior, pain-related dysfunctional endurance in a task and overactivity has to be considered. Currently, there is a need to better understand the psychological determinants of overactivity, dysfunctional endurance, and neurobiomechanical consequences.
METHODS: This is a narrative review.
RESULTS: The fi

Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder attempt to suppress obsessions and/or compulsions. Although previous psychological research suggests reduced semantic inhibition in such patients, no research has explored the underlying neural mechanisms of semantic control in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. In addition to semantic representation, semantic control also generates task-relevant behaviors. Previous research has implicated the left frontal and posterior temporal areas in semantic control; however, no research approaches the dynamic relationships among task-relevant brain ar

The counter-valenced use of the "like" button is an understudied phenomenon. Using a mixed-methods approach, this manuscript examines if individuals use the "like" button on social media to induce negative emotions in members of other brand communities while facilitating joy at that pain - that is, schadenfreude. Study 1 uses archival data to provide an initial illustration of "liking" behavior on the negative social media posts of sports teams, with the behavior increasing over a span of five years. Study 2 uses qualitative surveys to investigate if individuals engage in negative "liking" beh

Background: The relative risk of subsequent suicidal behaviors (and suicide mortality) is high following an episode of hospital-treatment for suicidal behavior. This study evaluated the effectiveness of telehealth aftercare interventions in reducing suicidal behaviors. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using 13 online databases (from inception until July 2024). Analyses included narrative synthesis and random effects meta-analyses based on study design. Risk of bias was assessed by Cochrane tools. Results: We identified n = 14 studies involving n = 14,420 participants. Pooled effect e
