Systematic Review of Safety and Efficacy of Atacicept in Treating Immune-Mediated Disorders.

Background: Biological agents (also termed biologics or biologicals) play a growingly central role in the treatment of immunological diseases. However, the numerous studies published on biologics complicate the decision on the most appropriate biologic for a given disease. We aim to address this problem by publishing a series of systematic reviews evaluating the safety and efficacy of B cell-targeting biologics for the treatment of immune-mediated diseases. This article assesses the safety and efficacy of atacicept, a recombinant fusion protein consisting of the binding portion of transmembran

Longitudinal change in self-reported peritraumatic dissociation during and after a course of posttraumatic stress disorder treatment: Contributions of symptom severity and time.

Objective: Peritraumatic dissociation, a dissociative reaction that occurs at the time of a traumatic event, has been established as a strong risk factor for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, self-reported peritraumatic dissociation is typically assessed months or years after trauma exposure and may be influenced by current distress levels and other factors. Method: We examined the temporal stability of scores on the Peritraumatic Dissociative Experiences Questionnaire (PDEQ) among 126 treatment-seeking adults with PTSD during and after trauma-focused treatment. Participants repor

Exposure to Toenail Heavy Metals and Child Behavior Problems in Nine-Year-Old Children: A Cross-Sectional Study.

UNLABELLED: Behavioral problems are multifactorial and includes perinatal, maternal, family, parenting, socio-economic and personal risk factors, but less is known about the association of postnatal heavy metals on children's behavioral problems in Pacific Island children. METHODS: A cohort of eligible nine-year-old children within a Pacific Island Families longitudinal study were recruited for a cross-sectional study. Child behavior problems were assessed using the child behavior checklist. Heavy metals (including Ni, Cu, Pb, Al, Cr and Cd) were determined in toenails, after acid digestion a

Oculomotor Behavior as a Biomarker for Differentiating Pediatric Patients With Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Age Matched Controls.

IMPORTANCE: Children have the highest incidence of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in the United States. However, mTBI, specifically pediatric patients with mTBI, are notoriously difficult to detect, and with a reliance on traditional, subjective measurements of eye movements, the subtle but key oculomotor deficits are often missed. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this project is to determine if the combined measurement of saccades, smooth pursuit, fixations and reaction time represent a biomarker for differentiating pediatric patients with mild traumatic brain injury compared to age matched con

Cardiovascular risk profile and frailty in Japanese outpatients: the Nambu Cohort Study.

Epidemiologic findings indicate that unfavorable cardiovascular (CV) risk profiles, such as elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and overweight, decelerate with aging. Few studies, however, have evaluated the association between the CV risk profile and frailty. We performed a cross-sectional analysis using the baseline data of a prospective cohort study. A total of 599 subjects (age, 78 [range: 70-83] years; men, 50%) were analyzed in an outpatient setting. Frailty was diagnosed in 37% of the patients according to the Kihon Checklist score. An un

Clinical outcome measures and scoring systems used in prospective studies of port wine stains: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Valid and reliable outcome measures are needed to determine and compare treatment results of port wine stain (PWS) studies. Besides, uniformity in outcome measures is crucial to enable inter-study comparisons and meta-analyses. This study aimed to assess the heterogeneity in reported PWS outcome measures by mapping the (clinical) outcome measures currently used in prospective PWS studies. METHODS: OVID MEDLINE, OVID Embase, and CENTRAL were searched for prospective PWS studies published from 2005 to May 2020. Interventional studies with a clinical efficacy assessment were included

Duloxetine and cardiovascular adverse events: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Duloxetine has been increasingly administered, but the associated cardiovascular adverse event risk is not clearly understood. Therefore, we identified the association between duloxetine and cardiovascular adverse events through an analysis of heart rate and blood pressure change. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, ClinicalTrials.gov, and psycINFO in June 2019. The title, abstract, and full text were checked in order to obtain articles. A meta-analysis was conducted with random effect model and quality of articles was evaluated using Cochrane Risk of Bi

Disordered Eating Attitudes and Behaviors in Maltreated Children and Adolescents Receiving Forensic Assessment in a Child Advocacy Center.

Previous studies have indicated that childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and other forms of child maltreatment (CM), as well as their subsequent posttraumatic symptoms, are significant risk factors for the development of disordered eating behaviors and attitudes and eating disorders (EDs). However, there are no known reports of CM based on forensic interview and assessment that have been linked to disordered eating behaviors and attitudes, or eating disorders (EDs), especially in children and adolescents. We, therefore, examined the hypothesis that ED-related symptoms would be significantly associate

Longitudinal association between deviant peer affiliation and externalizing behavior problems by types of child maltreatment.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has documented that deviant peer affiliation (DP) and externalizing behavior problems (EXT) are highly related and often co-occur. However, the directionality of the association between DP and EXT remains debatable. In addition, few studies have examined the longitudinal effects of child maltreatment types on co-development of DP and EXT overtime. Therefore, this study examined the role of child maltreatment in predicting the co-development of DP and EXT. METHODS: DP and EXT were assessed at ages 12, 14, and 16. DP was measured using 13 items from the modified ve

Spirituality, Religious Attendance and Health Complaints in Czech Adolescents.

Research in some religious countries shows that religiosity and spirituality positively affect adolescent health. We studied whether religiosity and spirituality also have positive associations with adolescent health in a secular country. We tested the associations between religious attendance and spirituality and self-reported health and health complaints using a representative sample of Czech adolescents (n = 4182, 14.4 ± 1.1 years, 48.6% boys) from the 2014 health behavior in school-aged children (HBSC) study. We used religious attendance, the adjusted shortened version of the spiritual wel

Integrated intervention for comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder and fibromyalgia: A pilot study of women veterans.

OBJECTIVE: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) are two commonly co-occurring conditions among women veterans. Each contributes to functional impairment that is compounded in those with both diagnoses. This emphasizes the need for integrated evidence-based treatments aimed at reducing symptoms of both. This pilot study examined feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of an integrated treatment combining elements of cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain and cognitive processing therapy in a small sample of women veterans with PTSD and FMS. METHOD: Part
