We evaluated two patients with allergic contact dermatitis that resulted from exposure to color film developers. A lichenoid eruption developed in one patient, whereas an eruption more characteristic of an acute spongiotic dermatitis developed in the second patient. Histologic findings in the first case were those of a "lichenoid dermatitis" but with features distinct from classic lichen planus. The biopsy specimens from the second patient showed a subacute spongiotic process with a bandlike infiltrate suggestive of an evolving lichenoid process. Mrakia is a cold-adapted yeast genus commonly found in polar environments, including the Antarctic and Arctic regions. Several Mrakia genome sequences have been reported to date; however, comprehensive genomic analyses remain limited. Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin and oral mucosa in which the cell-mediated cytotoxicity is regarded as a major mechanism of pathogenesis. Oral mucosal lesions manifest as a first sign of immune-mediated disorders. Lichen planus, pemphigus and pemphigoid are the most frequent immunologically mediated mucocutaneous diseases with oral involvement. Oral lesions are initially detected by dental health practitioners. Early detection can help in appropriate treatment and better quality of life. In the absence of screening, attempts to reduce this cancer must focus on recognizing precursor lesions, namely, lichen sclerosus and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN). Sixty-four biopsies were obtained from patients with a variety of vulvar disorders for direct immunofluorescence study. Twelve of 24 vulvar biopsies from patients with lichen sclerosus demonstrated deposition of fibrin in the upper dermis, while 7 vulvar biopsies showed fibrin deposition at the dermal-epidermal junction. In 1994 Steven Kossard described a new and peculiar type of hair loss that he named postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia. In 6 elderly women he observed a symmetric regression of the frontal hair line. Often the eyebrows were also affected. Histology showed lichen planopilaris. There were no clinical signs of lichen planus on the rest of the body. Since the original description by Kossard, several cases of frontal fibrosing alopecia have been described--almost all of them in elderly women. We report a man with frontal fibrosing alopecia of the Kossard type.
