Non-neoplastic and neoplastic scrotal pathologies on magnetic resonance imaging: a pictorial essay.

Magnetic resonance imaging is an essential tool for the assessment of the scrotum, particularly in cases with inconclusive ultrasound findings. It has a great capacity to differentiate between intratesticular and extratesticular lesions, as well as between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. By providing an accurate characterization of lesions, magnetic resonance imaging plays a crucial role in preoperative tumor staging and decision-making. This pictorial essay highlights the key non-neoplastic and neoplastic testicular pathologies, as evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging. The recogniti

Transcranial magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound for neuropathic pain treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) has shown promising results for a variety of neurological conditions, including movement disorders, brain tumors, and degenerative diseases. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated that MRgFUS can produce therapeutic effects in essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson's disease (PD), comparable to those achieved with other neurosurgical interventions. Furthermore, there has been increasing attention on the development of FUS technology and its clinical applications, aimed at exploring new uses and enhancing existing ones.

Feasibility of phase-locked transcranial magnetic stimulation of cerebellum for the treatment of essential tremor.

Objective.Cerebellar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been proposed to suppress limb tremors in essential tremor (ET), but mixed results have been reported so far, both when pulses are applied repetitively TMS (rTMS) and in bursts. We aim to investigate the cellular effects of TMS on the cerebellum under ET through numerical simulations.Approach.A computational model of the olivo-cerebello-thalamocortical pathways exhibiting the main neural biomarkers of ET (i.e. circuit-wide tremor-locked neural oscillations) was expanded to incorporate the effects of TMS-induced electric field (E-

Spigelian-Cryptorchidism Syndrome in Pediatrics: Diagnostic Value of Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

The Spigelian hernia-cryptorchidism syndrome is a rare clinical entity observed in male neonates. It is characterized by a congenital defect in the Spigelian fascia, resulting in a hernia along the semilunar line, often associated with intestinal obstruction. A hallmark feature is the presence of an ectopic testis, typically located within or immediately adjacent to the hernia sac. This association suggests a developmental anomaly involving both the abdominal wall structures and the genitourinary system. We present the case of a male infant with a history of surgically corrected Tetralogy of F

The essential role of multimodal magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosing vertebrobasilar artery dissection.

INTRODUCTION: Vertebrobasilar artery dissection (VBD) results from blood entering a tear in the intima of the vertebral artery (VA), basilar artery (BA), or their branches. T1-Sampling Perfection with Application-optimized Contrast using different flip angle Evolution (T1-SPACE) is a valuable tool for detecting intramural hematoma (IMH). Despite its potential, clinical adoption of susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) remains limited. This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of SWI and T1-SPACE for detecting IMH in VBD. METHODS: Consecutive patients admitted with symptomatic VBD within 28 d

Engineered Gadolinium-Decorated Magnetic Resonance Nanoprobes for Enhanced Liver Fibrosis Theranostics.

Liver fibrosis has the potential to advance to irreversible cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, rendering early diagnosis and intervention of utmost importance. During liver fibrogenesis, lysyl oxidase enzymes become upregulated, which facilitate ε amino groups of lysine in extracellular matrix proteins to become oxidized, yielding the aldehyde-containing allysine (LysAld). In this context, a novel hydrazine-functionalized gadolinium-platinum nanoplatform (Pt@Gd2O3-PEG-N2H4) has been engineered to facilitate accurate diagnosis and therapy of liver fibrosis. The platform achieves targeted de

BACKGROUND: Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) related to Desmoplakin (DSP) mutations is a distinct condition associated with particularly severe outcomes, more frequent left ventricular (LV) involvement, including fibrosis, dysfunction, and inflammatory episodes. Whether DSP-ACM is associated with specific imaging features remains elusive. This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) findings in patients with DSP-ACM and to compare them to RV-dominant ACM with LV involvement (LV+ right-dominant-ACM). METHODS: Patients with DSP-ACM matched

[Advances in neuroimaging mechanisms of lifelong premature ejaculation based on magnetic resonance imaging].

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as a non-invasive neuroimaging technique, has been widely employed to investigate changes in functional brain regions. In recent years, the application of MRI in the study of lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) has progressively uncovered the pathological mechanisms underlying abnormalities in LPE-associated brain regions. These mechanisms involve brain areas associated with higher-order cognitive and decision-making regulation, sensory and perceptual processing, as well as emotional regulation and reward systems. The application and findings of MRI in the st

Diagnostic value of bone scintigraphy versus cardiovascular magnetic resonance in cardiac amyloidosis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate diagnosis of transthyretin amyloidosis cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) and its differentiation from light-chain (AL) cardiac amyloidosis (CA) cases (AL-CM) are of paramount importance. Surprisingly, comparative imaging data based on concurrent cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and bone scintigraphy in the same patients with biopsy-proven diagnosis of CA are still rare. METHODS: This was a real-world retrospective single-center study based on a local clinical care pipeline and we carefully analyzed clinical, laboratory, CMR, and bone scintigraphy data (and if necessary addi

Magnetic resonance features in advanced retinoblastoma - what a paediatric radiologist needs to know.

Retinoblastoma is the most common intra-ocular malignancy in children worldwide. Current treatment modalities include focal therapy such as laser or cryotherapy, intravenous chemotherapy, intra-arterial chemotherapy and surgical enucleation. According to the current retinoblastoma staging systems, there are a few common features indicating advanced disease stage, which can subsequently predict the prognosis and the necessity of surgical enucleation and adjuvant chemotherapy. This review uses annotated magnetic resonance (MR) images to illustrate these features, which include (1) retinal detach

Longitudinal changes on cranial magnetic resonance imaging in relapsing giant cell arteritis.

OBJECTIVE: There is a need for better tools to monitor disease activity in giant cell arteritis (GCA). Prior studies demonstrated that vascular enhancement on cranial vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (vw-MRI) decreases with treatment of GCA, but whether enhancement increases during relapse is not well known. This study examined changes on vw-MRI during relapse of cranial GCA. METHODS: Patients with active GCA acquired cranial vw-MRIs at enrollment and months 1, 6, and 12 and if suspected relapse occurred. Neuroradiologists graded vw-MRI enhancement for several structures. Changes in MRI
