Longitudinal study on the mental health trajectory of new graduate nurses during role transition: identifying critical windows and core influencing factors.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to establish a dynamic follow-up cohort of new graduate nurses to systematically explore the dynamic changes and developmental trajectory of their mental health status within 3 years after employment. It further analyzed differences in mental health at different time points and factors associated with these trajectories, with the goal of providing empirical evidence for early identification of psychological risks and implementing targeted psychological interventions. This would assist new graduate nurses in successfully navigating the role transition period. METHOD

A Call to Validate the Stress Continuum Model.

INTRODUCTION: Since the start of the Global War on Terrorism, exponential demands have been put on military personnel, their families, and the military health care system. In response to a Department of Defense Task Force on Mental Health, the U.S. military began developing and fielding programs to promote the psychological health of its personnel. As part of these initiatives, the Navy and Marine Corps developed the Stress Continuum model. The Stress Continuum is a stress classification system ("ready," "reacting," "injured," and "ill") that provides a common language for identifying, engagin

Ethical dilemmas and intervention strategies in doctor-patient-family communication in end-of-life pediatric oncology: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Communication in end-of-life pediatric oncology involves ethically sensitive exchanges among healthcare providers, children, and families. The main dilemmas include how to disclose prognosis without abandoning hope, how to balance parents' surrogate authority with the child's evolving participation, and how to align treatment decisions with family values, developmental capacity, and the child's best interests. This narrative review clarifies the conceptual scope of these dilemmas, synthesizes evidence on their psychological, institutional, and sociocultural determinan

Art-Based Intervention to Promote Psychological Adjustment, Self-Concept, and Quality of Life in Children: Protocol for a Cluster Nonrandomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Children's mental health is a critical public health priority, with approximately 8% of children aged 10 years or younger experiencing mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders. Despite evidence supporting early intervention, access to mental health services remains limited, particularly for socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. Art-based interventions have emerged as promising approaches to support mental health and socioemotional development. However, significant gaps persist in understanding their efficacy, scalability, and long-term impact. OBJECTIVE: This study aims t

Psychosocial and behavioral correlates of persistent pain post disease-modifying treatment change in rheumatoid arthritis: a 12-month cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Pain is a debilitating and persistent symptom of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), associated with impaired functional capacity and reduced quality of life. Despite targeted disease-modifying treatments, many RA patients experience persistent pain, suggesting mechanisms operating independently of classic inflammatory pathways. Psychological factors, such as depression and anxiety, can impact patterns of appraisal and behavioral coping strategies. Understanding how these associations underpin pain symptoms in RA is key for developing targeted symptom management interventions. Using data fr

Health-Related Internet Use and Cyberchondria in Adolescents: Population-Based Cross-Sectional Survey.

BACKGROUND: Health-related internet searches are widespread among the general population. Cyberchondria, that is, excessive health-related internet research that leads to emotional stress, showed significant associations with personality traits and psychological symptoms in adult samples. Although adolescents exhibit high levels of internet use, strong interest in health topics, and heightened vulnerability to anxiety symptoms and anxiety disorders, little research has examined cyberchondria in this age group. OBJECTIVE: Based on findings from adult populations, this study is among the first

From institutional trust to digital literacy: Socioeconomic and political determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Czech adults based on a national panel survey.

Vaccine hesitancy remains a significant public health challenge, particularly during pandemics when high immunization rates are crucial. While individual psychological antecedents of vaccine hesitancy have been extensively studied, limited empirical evidence exists on how contextual determinants, such as socioeconomic status, political trust, and digital literacy, collectively shape vaccine-related behaviors, particularly in Central European populations. This study explores the key determinants of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Czech adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted using data f

Characterization and burden of localized back pain versus back pain with chronic overlapping pain conditions.

BACKGROUND: Chronic low back pain (cLBP) is the most common cause of years lived with disability (YLD). Chronic overlapping pain conditions (COPCs) is a relatively new taxonomy for widespread pain. Researchers have postulated that patients with COPCs have more pain-related impact than those with isolated pain conditions. We know little about the combination of COPCs with cLBP. This study aims to characterize patients with isolated cLBP compared to those with cLBP and associated COPCs across multiple domains of physical, psychological, and social functioning. METHODS: Using Stanford's CHOIR re

The correlation between tinnitus-specific and quality of life questionnaires to assess the impact on the quality of life in tinnitus patients.

INTRODUCTION: Subjective tinnitus is often associated with a reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The HRQoL represents the impact of tinnitus on an individual's life by addressing the physical, social, and psychological domains of 1. A limited amount of studies has investigated the association between tinnitus and HRQoL questionnaires. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between tinnitus-specific and HRQoL questionnaires in order to shorten fulfilling questionnaires, as it is often time-consuming. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Eighty-five patients with tinnitus as prim

Multidisciplinary Support for Children With Genodermatoses in Brazil: A RE-AIM Evaluation of Casa Santa Teresinha's Community-Based Model.

Genodermatoses impose substantial psychosocial and functional burdens on affected children and their families, yet structured community-based support models remain underrepresented in the literature. We describe Casa Santa Teresinha, a Brazilian non-profit organization providing multidisciplinary care for children with genodermatoses and present a programmatic evaluation using the RE-AIM framework (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance). In 2025, the program engaged 103 patients and their families, delivering 4419 service encounters across psychology, social work, phy

Patient-derived xenograft model for uterine leiomyoma by sub-renal capsule grafting.

Uterine leiomyoma (UL) or fibroid is a benign smooth muscle tumor of the myometrium with a lifetime incidence of approximately 70%. ULs often require medical intervention due to severe symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding and abdominal pain. Although the most common and effective management of ULs is surgical removal, the invasive surgical procedure imposes physical and psychological burdens on the patients. Moreover, the economic burden of UL on health care system is enormous due to the high cost of surgeries. Thus, therapeutic options with long-term efficacy to replace surgical manageme

Moods as ups and downs of the motivation pendulum: revisiting reinforcement sensitivity theory (RST) in bipolar disorder.

Motivation is a key neurobehavioral concept underlying adaptive responses to environmental incentives and threats. As such, dysregulation of motivational processes may be critical in the formation of abnormal behavioral patterns/tendencies. According to the long standing model of the Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST), motivation behaviors are driven by three neurobehavioral systems mediating the sensitivity to punishment, reward or goal-conflict. Corresponding to current neurobehavioral theories in psychiatry, this theory links abnormal motivational drives to abnormal behavior; viewing de
