Stability of curved chain-like bubble structures and transport behavior of gas nuclei in localized turbulent Flows.

This study establishes spatially periodic acoustic pressure gradients beneath the gas-liquid interface by alternately arranging soft and hard acoustic boundaries, thereby stabilizing the aggregation of cavitation bubbles below the liquid surface. The evolution of bubble aggregation structures was recorded using a high-speed imaging system with high magnification and frame rate. The morphological characteristics of the structures and the motion properties of internal bubbles were analyzed through image processing methods, providing experimental evidence for gas-nucleus circulation. Ultrasound-Guided Peristyloid Hydrodissection for Eagle Syndrome With 5% Dextrose: A Technical Note Integrating Computed Tomography-Defined Anatomy, Doppler Vascular Mapping, and Orthogonal Sonographic Guidance.

Eagle syndrome is a symptomatic disorder associated with elongation or abnormal orientation of the styloid process and/or ossification of the stylohyoid complex. Clinical manifestations depend on the spatial relationship between the styloid complex and adjacent neural, muscular, fascial, and vascular structures. We describe an ultrasound-guided peristyloid hydrodissection technique using 5% dextrose in water (D5W) that integrates preprocedural computed tomography (CT), sequential landmark-based sonographic localization, live-dual imaging, Doppler vascular mapping, and orthogonal short- and lon

Early-Life exposure to environmental pollutants and endocrine disruptors: emerging risks and mechanistic insights in maternal, fetal, and child health.

Exposure to environmental pollutants and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in early life is a critical public health issue because it can alter developmental programming that impacts susceptibility to disease throughout life. The prenatal and early postnatal periods are times of vulnerability when exposure to environmental stressors may impact endocrine signalling, placental function, epigenetic regulation, and metabolic homeostasis. There is increasing evidence that exposure to bisphenols, phthalates, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pesticides, heavy metals, and air pollutants

Geochemical assessment of radionuclides, heavy metals and POPs in urban forest soils: hidden exposure pathways and health risks.

Urban forests contribute significantly to human well-being and climate resilience, yet they may also act as reservoirs of contaminants such as radionuclides, heavy metals, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). These pollutants accumulate in soils and can pose chronic exposure risks to surrounding communities. This study quantified radionuclides, heavy metals and POPs in soils of the protected Mount Avala forest near Belgrade, Serbia, and evaluated the associated health risks. Natural radionuclide activities exceeded the global averages, particularly for 40K, while 137Cs behavior appeared t

Adaptive multimodal fusion via Gated Parallel Mamba architecture for ultra-high-precision stroke lesion segmentation in medical imaging.

The accurate delineation of ischemic stroke lesions in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is impeded by heterogeneous lesion morphology and the computational expense of modeling global context in three‑dimensional data. In cerebral infarction assessment, diffusion‑weighted imaging, apparent diffusion coefficient, T2‑weighted imaging and T2star sequences (including susceptibility weighted image processing) each offer complementary information, yet existing fusion strategies often fail to adapt to missing modalities or capture long‑range dependencies efficiently. Here we present GPMNet, a lightwei

A multi-scale, circuit-to-gene signature of approach-bias modification in internet gaming disorder.

BACKGROUND: Approach-bias modification (ApBM) is a cognitive training intervention with potential therapeutic value for internet gaming disorder (IGD). However, its clinical efficacy and the underlying neural mechanisms remain to be systematically investigated. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ApBM for IGD and to identify the associated multi-scale neurobiological signatures, from brain connectivity to gene expression. METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial involving individuals with IGD assigned to either an ApBM (N = 30) or a control group (N = 27). Resting-sta

How light and aggregate size shape oxygen profiles in photogranules.

The redox structure of photogranules emerges from the balance between light-driven oxygen production and microbial respiration, but the spatial coupling of these processes remains poorly quantified. Here, we investigated how light intensity, organic carbon supply, and granule size shape oxygen gradients in photogranules. Oxygen microprofiles were measured in photogranules (3.2 to 5 mm diameter) exposed to light intensities of 0 to 170 µmolPAR·m-2·s-1 and acetate concentrations of 0, 30, and 500 mgCOD·L-1. Granules originated from acetate- and methane-fed bioreactors. Light penetration was quan

Waste-derived hierarchical biochar with lignosulfonate/melamine-induced mesopore formation and S-assisted N retention for sustained nutrient delivery.

The sustainable valorization of waste biomass into high-value functional materials via advanced thermochemical processes is a critical frontier for environmental nutrient management. Herein, a novel spatial-infilling and interfacial reconstruction strategy was proposed to engineer a rice husk biochar carrier via the synergistic vacuum impregnation and co-pyrolysis of lignin sulfonate and melamine. This process induced mesopore formation, pore-structure reconstruction, and pore-size redistribution, shifting the average pore width from 28.41 to 2.71 nm while increasing the surface area from 5.42

Micro-SORS-Based Protocol for the Noninvasive Depth-Resolved Study of Degraded ABS in Cultural Heritage.

In the field of cultural heritage, there is an urgent need to enhance our understanding of the composition of plastic materials and their degradation processes, especially given their susceptibility to relatively rapid deterioration. Among these materials, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), commonly found in museum collections, is particularly vulnerable to photoaging, primarily affecting the polybutadiene (PB) phase through oxidation and cross-linking, significantly compromising its mechanical properties. While noninvasive techniques have been successfully applied to characterize surfaces

A vision-based MobileNet-GRU framework for continuous monitoring of student engagement and emotional states.

Student engagement and emotional state monitoring remains a major challenge in modern education, particularly in online learning environments where direct instructor supervision is limited. Conventional evaluation approaches, such as surveys, quizzes, and feedback forms, rely heavily on subjective judgment and often fail to capture the dynamic temporal patterns of learner attention and behavioral engagement patterns. To address this limitation, this study proposes a vision-based framework that integrates efficient spatial feature extraction with temporal sequence modeling for continuous engage

Beyond neurobiology: cellular prion protein (PRNP) as an emerging regulator of decidual and utero-placental vascular function.

The establishment of a functional utero-placental interface depends on the precise temporal and spatial coordination of blastocyst attachment, decidual transformation, trophoblast invasion, and uterine spiral artery remodeling (SAR). Disruption of these tightly regulated processes underlies major placental pathologies, including preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and stillbirth. Although significant advances have been made in defining the molecular networks governing placental development, the contribution of cellular prion protein (PRNP) remains poorly characterized, warranting a focused

Retinoic Acid Signaling in Male Reproductive Biology: From Germ Cell Regulation to Contraceptive Innovation Within a One Health Framework.

Spermatogenesis is a highly coordinated biological process in which diploid spermatogonia undergo mitotic expansion, meiotic division, and terminal differentiation into haploid spermatozoa. This process is tightly regulated by intrinsic germ cell programs and extrinsic signals from Sertoli cells within the seminiferous epithelium. Among the signaling pathways governing male germ cell development, all-trans retinoic acid (RA), a bioactive metabolite of vitamin A, has emerged as a master regulator of meiotic initiation and spermatogonial differentiation in mammals. RA functions through nuclear r

Cardiorespiratory modulation of cerebrospinal fluid flow in the presence of spinal subarachnoid space obstruction.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic injury to the spinal cord disrupts cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in the spinal subarachnoid space (SAS) and can precipitate cystic accumulation of fluid within the tissue - syringomyelia. The dynamic processes that lead to syringomyelia from an obstruction to CSF flow are not clearly defined. Investigations into CSF circulation have revealed that physiological variables, including respiration, heart rate, and blood pressure, influence CSF flow. Spinal cord injury affects each of these variables, however it is unknown how these variables influence CSF flow when the SAS is

Modulation of depression through the neurobiological underpinnings of the glymphatic-rumination relationship.

BACKGROUND: Glymphatic functioning is implicated in cognitive and affective functioning. Given that rumination, a major risk factor for major depressive disorder (MDD), is a cognitive process regulating information processing, knowledge of the neurobiological mechanisms underpinning the relationship among glymphatic functioning, rumination, and depression would offer significant insight into the precipitating and maintenance mechanisms of MDD. METHODS: This study recruited 53 MDD patients and 47 matched healthy controls (HCs). Diffusion Tensor Image Analysis along the Perivascular Space (DTI-

From tarsal anatomy to tear-film homeostasis: A history-informed review of the meibomian gland in ocular surface biology.

The meibomian gland was anatomically described in 1666, but its central role in ocular surface disease emerged only after tear-film physiology, in vivo imaging, lipid biochemistry, and consensus nosology converged. This review reconstructs the transition from early anatomical recognition to the modern concept of meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) as a major contributor to evaporative dry eye. We use "epistemic activation" as an analytic term for the historical process by which a long-recognized anatomical structure becomes causally linked to disease, rendered quantitatively measurable, and codi

From gut microbiota-driven mucosal barrier disruption to myeloid-dominant immunosuppressive niches in colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) develops within a mucosal ecosystem in which epithelial barrier function, colonizing microbes, inflammatory signaling, and immune cell composition are closely interdependent. Immune checkpoint inhibitors have significantly altered treatment outcomes in patients with mismatch repair-deficient or microsatellite instability-high (dMMR/MSI-H) CRC, but most microsatellite-stable (MSS) tumors still respond poorly, and this is not solely due to lower antigenicity. This article explains this gap mechanistically: gut microbiota dysbiosis weakens the mucosal barrier, promotes mic

Regulation of MAP2, GFAP, and calcium in the CA3 Region Following Kainic Acid Exposure to  organotypic hippocampal slice culture.

BACKGROUND: Neurodegeneration due to neurotoxicity is one of the phenomena in temporal lobe epilepsy. Experimentally, hippocampal excitotoxicity process can occur due to kainic acid exposure, especially in the CA3 area. Neuronal death, astrocyte reactivity and increased calcium also occur in hippocampal excitotoxicity, but few studies have investigated immediate effect after kainic acid exposure. The organotypic hippocampal slice culture (OHSC) is a useful model for studying the neurodegeneration process, but there are still many protocol differences. In this study, minor modifications were ma

Plasmonic resonance modulation of graphene by nanoscale substrate curvatures.

The nanopatterning of graphene with complex geometries and configurations has been widely investigated to excite plasmonic resonances in the graphene layer with high spatial confinement and gate tunability for nanophotonic applications. However, the existing approaches suffer from time-consuming and complicated fabrication processes, edge effects, and a narrow spectral tunability range of plasmonic resonances in graphene, limiting their utility in optoelectronic applications. Here, we study the effect of substrate corrugation and curvature on the plasmonic resonances of graphene through theore

Hypoxia Affects Stem Cell Fate in Patient-Derived Ileum Enteroids in a HIF-1α-Dependent Manner.

The intestinal epithelium maintains tissue homeostasis through a dynamic balance of stem cell proliferation and differentiation. This process is spatially regulated along the crypt-villus axis, with intestinal stem cells in the crypt regions proliferating and progenitor cells differentiating as they migrate toward the villus tips. Because the lumen of the gut contains very low levels of oxygen (i.e., hypoxia), an oxygen gradient is established within the crypt-villus axis, placing the crypt regions under normoxic conditions while the villus tips reside under hypoxic conditions. Hence, intestin

Brain Region-specific Accumulation of Amyloidosis-associated Proteins in Postmortem Brain Tissues of Alzheimer's Disease Patients.

Numerous extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, referred to as the matrisome, are increased in Alzheimer's disease (AD). We recently demonstrated that many of these proteins colocalize with Aβ plaques and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), and some are present in dystrophic cellular processes within and around plaques. However, their precise roles in AD pathogenesis and their spatial and temporal distribution in postmortem brain tissue remain incompletely understood. Here, we performed a comprehensive immunohistochemistry analysis on postmortem brain samples spanning the spectrum of AD neuropath
