Mental health and quality of life outcomes after CABG in a South Asian country: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a proven life-saving intervention for ischemic heart disease (IHD). However, literature on its post-surgical quality of life (QoL) and mental health is limited in resource-constrained settings, where IHD burden remains high. This study determined changes in depression, anxiety, and QoL pre-operatively to 1- and 6-month post-CABG in a South Asian low- and middle-income country (LMIC). METHODS: This prospective study was conducted at a large private hospital in Pakistan (February 2022-March 2023). Data were collected pre-operatively, 1-month

Associations of employment status with social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy among mothers of infants: a cross-sectional study using machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Differences in social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy according to maternal employment status have important implications for maternal and child public health. However, evidence comparing these psychosocial outcomes between employed and non-employed mothers of infants remains limited, hindering the development of targeted maternal and child health interventions. This study compared social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy between employed and non-employed mothers and evaluated the performance of machine learning models for classifying emplo

Intracisternal IGF-1 gene delivery attenuates early anxiety-like behavior but not dopaminergic neurodegeneration in a 6-OHDA rat model of parkinsonism.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons, leading to a spectrum of motor and non-motor symptoms. In addition to the motor deficits serving as the primary criteria for diagnosis, mood and anxiety disorders also play a significant role in shaping the prognosis and overall disease progression in PD. OBJECTIVES: In this study, our aim was to characterize the progression of anxiety-like behavioral deficits in a rat model of neurotoxicity induced by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) and to investigate insulin-like gr

The psychological costs and benefits of being highly persistent: personality profiles distinguish mood disorders from anxiety disorders.

BACKGROUND: The personality trait of Persistence is highly valued by conscientious overachievers, but it has both psychological costs and benefits. The interactions among multiple personality factors influencing the development of mood and anxiety disorders have been confounded in prior clinical samples, but can be disentangled in terms of their underlying brain circuitry and influence on perception of emotional stimuli. METHODS: 285 individuals who represented the full range of personality variation in a large sample of adult volunteers from the general community of Israel were selected for

Psychological distress and dyadic trust in Italian women awaiting colposcopy after positive cervical cancer screening: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Screening programs have substantially reduced cervical cancer incidence and mortality, yet abnormal results can generate considerable psychological distress even before a diagnosis is confirmed. Interpersonal resources such as dyadic trust-the expectation of reliability and support within intimate relationships-may buffer distress, but their role in the colposcopy context is understudied. Examining both individual and relational predictors of emotional well-being may inform targeted psychosocial interventions and improve patient-centered care in cervical cancer screening. OBJECTIV

Preliminary Feasibility of a Novel Mind-Body Program to Prevent Persistent Concussion Symptoms Among Young Adults With Anxiety: Nonrandomized Open Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Concussions are common, particularly among young adults, and often are associated with persistent, debilitating, and hard-to-treat symptoms. Anxiety and concussion symptoms often amplify each other, and growing evidence indicates that anxiety plays a key role in symptoms persistence after concussion. Targeting anxiety early after concussion may be a promising means of helping prevent persistent concussion symptoms in this population. We developed the Toolkit for Optimal Recovery after Concussion (TOR-C), the first mind-body program tailored for young adults with a recent concussion

Reliability of Agreement between Insulin, Clonidine, and Glucagon Stimulation Tests for the Diagnosis of Growth Hormone Deficiency in Children: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD) is a rare disorder. The diagnosis of GHD requires a combination of two provocative GH tests. This study aimed to find agreement between commonly used medications to determine which combined tests have high reliability of agreement. This retrospective cohort included 201 children who underwent GH provocation testing from January 2012 to December 2022. The insulin tolerance test (ITT) with the clonidine stimulation test (CST) or glucagon stimulation test (GST) with the CST were performed. We calculated Cohen's kappa to determine the agreement between the test

Locus Coeruleus-Noradrenergic Neurons Regulate Stress Coping During Subchronic Exposure to Social Threats: A Characteristic Feature in Postpartum Female Mice.

Stress-coping strategies have been implicated in depression. The control of stress coping may improve the symptom and higher prevalence of depression during the postpartum period in women. However, the neuronal mechanisms underlying stress coping remain to be fully elucidated in postpartum women. In this study, we examined how locus coeruleus-noradrenergic (LC-NA) neurons, which have been associated with both stress coping and depression, regulate changes in coping style induced by subchronic exposure to unfamiliar male mice as a social threat in postpartum female mice. In contrast to virgin f

CE-123, a novel dopamine transporter inhibitor, attenuates locomotor hyperactivity and improves cognitive functions in rat model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.

Perinatal alcohol exposure can lead to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), usually first diagnosed in childhood, that are characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity and learning and memory disability, among others. To test the hypothesis that dopamine signaling is one of the main factors underlying these impairments, a new atypical dopamine transporter (DAT) inhibitor, CE-123 (1, 3 or 10 mg/kg) was assessed for its potential to overcome the ethanol-induced behavioral effects in a rat model of FASD. In the present study, neonatal rats were exposed to alcohol intubations across the neonata
