An electronic health record (EHR) phenotype algorithm to identify patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADHD) and psychiatric comorbidities.

BACKGROUND: In over half of pediatric cases, ADHD presents with comorbidities, and often, it is unclear whether the symptoms causing impairment are due to the comorbidity or the underlying ADHD. Comorbid conditions increase the likelihood for a more severe and persistent course and complicate treatment decisions. Therefore, it is highly important to establish an algorithm that identifies ADHD and comorbidities in order to improve research on ADHD using biorepository and other electronic record data. METHODS: It is feasible to accurately distinguish between ADHD in isolation from ADHD with com

Design of Distributed Drive Control Strategy for Wheel Side Rear Drive Electric Bus Based on Neural Network Algorithm.

The electric bus driven by the wheel-side motor has a natural advantage for the driving stability control of the vehicle because the torque of each driving wheel is independently controllable. Based on the advantages of the artificial neural network control algorithm, this paper designs a direct yaw torque control strategy based on neural network PID control, and combines the steering characteristics of the vehicle to distribute the driving torque. The co-simulation results of Matlab/Simulink and TruckSim show that the designed control strategy can effectively reduce the vehicle's center of ma

Development and validation of a prediction algorithm to identify birth in countries with high tuberculosis incidence in two large California health systems.

OBJECTIVE: Though targeted testing for latent tuberculosis infection ("LTBI") for persons born in countries with high tuberculosis incidence ("HTBIC") is recommended in health care settings, this information is not routinely recorded in the electronic health record ("EHR"). We develop and validate a prediction model for birth in a HTBIC using EHR data. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a cohort of patients within Kaiser Permanente Southern California ("KPSC") and Kaiser Permanent Northern California ("KPNC") between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2019, KPSC was used as the development dataset and K

Influence of signal-to-noise ratio, glaucoma stage and segmentation algorithm on OCT usability for quantifying layer thicknesses in the peripapillary retina.

PURPOSE: OCT can be used for glaucoma assessment, but its usefulness may depend on image quality, disease stage and segmentation algorithm. We aimed to determine how layer thicknesses as assessed with different algorithms depend on image quality and disease stage, how reproducible the algorithms are, and if the algorithms (dis)agree. METHODS: Optic disc OCT data (Canon OCT-HS100) from 20 healthy subjects and 28 early, 29 moderate, and 23 severe glaucoma patients were assessed with four different algorithms (CANON, IOWA, FWHM, DOCTRAP). We measured retinal nerve fibre layer thickness (RNFLT) a

Baveno VII algorithm outperformed other models in ruling out high-risk varices in individuals with HBV-related cirrhosis.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: The Baveno VII consensus recommends that spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) ≤40 kPa is safe for ruling out high-risk varices (HRVs) and avoiding endoscopic screening in patients who do not meet the Baveno VI criteria. This study aimed to validate the performance of the Baveno VII algorithm in individuals with HBV-related cirrhosis. METHODS: Consecutive individuals with HBV-related cirrhosis who underwent liver stiffness measurement (LSM) and SSM - using a 50 Hz shear wave frequency, spleen diameter measurement, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) were prospectively enrolle

Lung Cancer Nodules Detection via an Adaptive Boosting Algorithm Based on Self-Normalized Multiview Convolutional Neural Network.

Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer killing almost 1.8 million people in 2020. The new cases are expanding alarmingly. Early lung cancer manifests itself in the form of nodules in the lungs. One of the most widely used techniques for both lung cancer early and noninvasive diagnosis is computed tomography (CT). However, the intensive workload of radiologists to read a large number of scans for nodules detection gives rise to issues like false detection and missed detection. To overcome these issues, we proposed an innovative strategy titled adaptive boosting self-normalized multiview convolutio

Improved deep convolutional neural networks using chimp optimization algorithm for Covid19 diagnosis from the X-ray images.

Applying Deep Learning (DL) in radiological images (i.e., chest X-rays) is emerging because of the necessity of having accurate and fast COVID-19 detectors. Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN) have been typically used as robust COVID-19 positive case detectors in these approaches. Such DCCNs tend to utilize Gradient Descent-Based (GDB) algorithms as the last fully-connected layers' trainers. Although GDB training algorithms have simple structures and fast convergence rates for cases with large training samples, they suffer from the manual tuning of numerous parameters, getting stuck in l

Monocentric retrospective clinical outcome in a group of 13 patients with opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome, proposal of diagnostic algorithm and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Dancing eye syndrome or opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome (OMS) is a very rare disease (incidence <1/5,000,000 per year), which is more prevalent in young children. Although it is not usually a cause of mortality, the aftermaths are not rare. METHODS: We performed an observational retrospective review of children diagnosed with OMS in our neuropediatric department from 1996 to 2020, with the objective of assessing the prognostic value of initial clinical features. All medical data from diagnosis to last follow-up were reviewed. We defined unfavorable evolution of OMS as persistence or

A proof of concept of a machine learning algorithm to predict late-onset 21-hydroxylase deficiency in children with premature pubic hair.

In children with premature pubarche (PP), late onset 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD), also known as non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCCAH), can be routinely ruled out by an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) test. Using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), a quantitative assay of the circulating steroidome can be obtained from a single blood sample. We hypothesized that, by applying multivariate machine learning (ML) models to basal steroid profiles and clinical parameters of 97 patients, we could distinguish children with PP from those with NCCAH, withou

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation of Hemangioma Resection for Encephalofacial Angiomatosis (Sturge-Weber Syndrome) in Children under Intelligent Algorithm.

This study was aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of hemangioma resection in the treatment of infantile encephalofacial angiomatosis (Sturge-Weber syndrome, SWS) through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, and intelligent algorithms were employed to process MRI images. A retrospective study of 45 children diagnosed with facial hemangioma admitted to hospital was conducted. Then, MRS images were acquired, and a mathematical model for MRI image denoising and reconstruction was constructed based on nonlocal similar block low-rank prior algorithms. The processing effect was assessed rega

The surgical management of highly unstable fragility fractures of the sacrum with spinopelvic dissociation: A case series and proposal of a surgical treatment algorithm.

INTRODUCTION: U- and H-shaped fragility fractures of the sacrum (FFP IVb) are unstable fractures. Non-operative treatment may be associated with impaired walking abilities, chronic pain and the potential loss of independency. However, different treatment options are still controversially debated. The aim of surgical treatment includes sufficient fracture stability for immediate full weight bearing and good pain control postoperatively. A new surgical treatment algorithm was developed. This algorithm was evaluated in a cohort of geriatric patients with FFP type IVb regarding surgical complicati

Axillary lymph node "bubbly" calcifications and body tattoo: A case series and proposed algorithm to minimize lymph node biopsies.

The presence of mammographically evident hyperdense foci within axillary lymph nodes elicits concern for calcium deposits, which in turn have a wide differential diagnosis including both benign and malignant entities. Tissue sampling, most commonly by way of image-guided core needle biopsy, is needed in many cases when a definite etiology cannot be clinically established. In this case series we present history, imaging findings, and pathology results (or long term follow-up stability as biopsy surrogate) of several women with body tattoos who at mammography were noted to have a characteristic

Applying the Rapid OPPERA Algorithm to Predict Persistent Pain Outcomes Among a Cohort of Women Undergoing Breast Cancer Surgery.

Persistent postmastectomy pain after breast surgery is variable in duration and severity across patients, due in part to interindividual variability in pain processing. The Rapid OPPERA Algorithm (ROPA) empirically identified 3 clusters of patients with different risk of chronic pain based on 4 key psychophysical and psychosocial characteristics. We aimed to test this type of group-based clustering within in a perioperative cohort undergoing breast surgery to investigate differences in postsurgical pain outcomes. Women (N = 228) scheduled for breast cancer surgery were prospectively enrolled i
