Leishmania donovani causes both cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis (CL and VL) in Sri Lanka, where chronic kidney disease (CKD) and kidney transplant recipients' (KTR) geographical areas overlap. BACKGROUND: Hyperhemolytic syndrome (HS) is a rare and fatal complication of blood transfusion. This is the first reported case of HS in a Chinese pregnant woman.
METHODS: Here, we report a case of HS in a 22-year-old pregnant Chinese woman with β-thalassemia.
RESULTS: All red blood cell alloantibody screens, including RBC eluate, were negative; however, the patient had se-vere hemolytic transfusion reactions. She was diagnosed with HS, and her newborn was delivered at 36 weeks and was discharged with a good prognosis.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first reported case of HS in a Chinese pregnant

Intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) is a protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) that occasionally leads to gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB). We encountered a 41-year-old female with a 9-year history of duodenal IL with PLE and GIB that progressively worsened. Despite a diet, supplemented with medium-chain triglycerides, antiplasmin therapy, oral corticosteroids, octreotides, sirolimus, and repeated endoscopic hemostasis, her symptoms remained uncontrolled, leading to blood transfusion dependence. Lymphangiography revealed significant leakage from abnormal abdominal lymph vessels into the duodenal lumen.
