Diagnostic Values of Immature Granulocytes Detected by the Sysmex XN 9000 Hematology Analyzer in Children with Urinary Tract Infections.

Immature granulocytes (IGs) are used as markers of infection and systemic inflammation. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of IGs in children with urinary tract infections (UTIs). Children with their first UTIs were included in this observational study. Blood samples were obtained before antibiotic therapy. The blood analysis was repeated 2 weeks after the treatment ended. In total, 194 children (95 with febrile UTI, 58 with cystitis, and 41 controls) were included. The percentage of IGs (IG%) and IG count (IGC) measured at the time of admission were higher in the patients with febri

Reduced rates of substance use disorder in patients with alopecia: An all of us case-control study.

Alopecia areata (AA), depression, anxiety, and decreased quality of life are highly associated in the literature. It has been noted that there is an increased risk of substance use in those with AA to help cope with the psychological burdens and perceived stigmatization. This study aims to explore the relationship between substance use disorder (SUD) and scarring/non-scarring alopecia using the All of Us database. Of the 9,385 patients with alopecia, 8.4% had SUD of any kind. Multivariable regression revealed that alopecia is a potential protective factor against SUD when controlling for other

Radiomics of Late Gadolinium Enhancement Reveals Prognostic Value of Myocardial Scar Heterogeneity in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) scar burden by cardiac magnetic resonance is a major risk factor for sudden cardiac death (SCD) in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, there is currently limited data on the incremental prognostic value of integrating myocardial LGE radiomics (ie, shape and texture features) into SCD risk stratification models. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incremental prognostic value of myocardial LGE radiomics beyond current European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Associ

First-trimester cesarean scar pregnancy: a comparative analysis of treatment options from the international registry.

BACKGROUND: A cesarean scar pregnancy is an iatrogenic consequence of a previous cesarean delivery. The gestational sac implants into a niche created by the incision of the previous cesarean delivery, and this carries a substantial risk for major maternal complications. The aim of this study was to report, analyze, and compare the effectiveness and safety of different treatments options for cesarean scar pregnancies managed in the first trimester through a registry. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluated the ultrasound findings, disease behavior, and management of first-trimester cesarean s

TSG-6 inhibits hypertrophic scar fibroblast proliferation by regulating IRE1α/TRAF2/NF-κB signalling.

TNF-stimulated gene (TSG-6) was reported to suppress hypertrophic scar (HS) formation in a rabbit ear model, and the overexpression of TSG-6 in human HS fibroblasts (HSFs) was found to induce their apoptotic death. The molecular basis for these findings, however, remains to be clarified. HSFs were subjected to TSG-6 treatment. Treatment with TSG-6 significantly suppressed HSF proliferation and induced them to undergo apoptosis. Moreover, TSG-6 exposure led to reductions in collagen I, collagen III, and α-SMA mRNA and protein levels, with a corresponding drop in proliferating cell nuclear antig

Inhibition of ANGPT2 activates autophagy during hypertrophic scar formation via PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

BACKGROUND: Hypertrophic scar (HS), a fibroproliferative disorder caused by aberrant wound healing following skin injuries such as burns, lacerations and surgery, is characterized by invasive proliferation of fibroblasts and excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. The dysregulation of autophagy is the pathological basis of HS formation. Previously, angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) was found to be overexpressed in HS fibroblasts (HSFs) compared with normal skin fibroblasts. However, whether ANGPT2 participates in the process of HS formation and the potential molecular mechanisms are not clear

Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Alleviate Hypertrophic Scar by Inhibiting Bioactivity and Inducing Apoptosis in Hypertrophic Scar Fibroblasts.

Background: As a fibrotic disease with a high incidence, the pathogenesis of hypertrophic scarring is still not fully understood, and the treatment of this disease is also challenging. In recent years, human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) have been considered an effective treatment for hypertrophic scars. This study mainly explored whether the therapeutic effect of AD-MSCs on hypertrophic scars is associated with oxidative-stress-related proteins. Methods: AD-MSCs were isolated from adipose tissues and characterized through flow cytometry and a differentiation test. Afterward

Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor, Captopril, Improves Scar Healing in Hypertensive Rats.

Pathological cutaneous scars, with aberrant extracellular matrix accumulation, have multiple origins. Antihypertensive medications, such as calcium channel blockers, have been used to treat pathological scars. However, a relationship between angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, pathological scars, and blood pressure (BP) has never been reported. Here, we aimed to compare the differences in scar development and the effects of the administration of systemic ACE inhibitor on scar tissue in a normotensive rat, the Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY), a hypertensive rat, and the spontaneously hyperte
