Desmoid-type fibromatosis is a relatively rare disease, often associated with familial adenomatous polyposis and a history of abdominal surgery. A 43-year-old male patient presented with abdominal pain and contrast-enhanced CT showed a mass in the lower abdomen. The mass was a 4×4×3 cm white, dense tumor with a wreath-like arrangement of eosinophilic spindle-shaped cells. Immunostaining showed KIT(-), CD34(-), desmin(-), β-catenin(+), SMA(few+), and the diagnosis was desmoid-type fibrosis. Six months after surgery, there was no apparent recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic intestinal adenocarcinoma involving the mandible is rare, posing diagnostic challenges because of its unusual presentation.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 55-year-old male presented with a rapidly growing mass in the right mandible, accompanied by facial asymmetry and vestibular obliteration. Histopathological examinations revealed features consistent with adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemical analysis supported the diagnosis of intestinal adenocarcinoma, with subsequent metastasis confirmed by PET scan findings.

Gut dysbiosis and subclinical intestinal damage are common in cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to examine the association of intestinal damage biomarkers (diamine oxidase [DAO], claudin 3, and intestinal fatty acid binding protein [I-FABP; FABP2]) with the state of the gut microbiota in cirrhosis. The blood levels of DAO were inversely correlated with blood levels of claudin 3, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), presepsin, TNF-α, and the severity of cirrhosis according to Child-Pugh scores. The blood level of I-FABP was directly correlated with the blood level of claudin 3 but not with that of DAO.
