The likelihood of patellar instability and consequently, risk of patellar dislocations is higher in those with anatomical abnormalities. Fibular hemimelia is a congenital disorder resulting in partial or full absence of the fibula, often with absence of the lateral and cruciate ligaments, although this patient group rarely undergoes ligament reconstruction. There is potential for adverse outcomes, in the longer term, including, possible increased risk of patellar dislocation and pain in the knee and hip. We aim to investigate the potential risk of spontaneous, unprovoked patellar dislocation a

PURPOSE: To evaluate and describe the morphologic features of the C2 pedicle in patients with basilar invagination (BI) for informing the placement of pedicle screws. C2 pedicle screw placement is an important surgical technique for the treatment of atlantoaxial instability in patients with BI. However, no systematic and comprehensive anatomical study of the C2 pedicle in patients with BI has been reported.
METHODS: The data from 100 patients diagnosed with BI (BI group) and 100 patients without head or cervical disease (control group) were included in the study. Radiographic parameters, incl

BACKGROUND: Improved techniques and increased surgeon experience have optimized surgical care in patients with recurrent shoulder instability. Several techniques are used for surgical repair of shoulder instability, yet there are limited data on how utilization has changed over the past decade. The aim of this study was to assess trends in the utilization rate and patient demographic characteristics (age and sex) from 2010 to 2019 for 4 shoulder instability procedures: coracoid transfer/Latarjet procedure (LP), anterior bone block (ABB), open Bankart repair (OBR), and arthroscopic Bankart repa

BACKGROUND: Debate centering on the management of anterior shoulder instability (ASI) in recent years has led to many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) being published on the topic. The fragility index (FI) has subsequently emerged as a novel method of assessing significant findings reported in RCTs, particularly those with small sample sizes.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the FI of statistically significant findings in RCTs that reported the outcomes of management strategies of patients with ASI.
STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 1.

BACKGROUND: There is uncertainty with regard to the optimal revision procedure after failed labral repair for anterior shoulder instability. An overview of outcomes of these procedures with quantitative analysis is not available in literature. The aim of this review is (1) to compare recurrence rates after revision labral repair (RLR) and revision bony reconstruction (RBR), both following failed labral repair. In addition, (2) recurrence rates after RBR following failed labral repair and primary bony reconstruction (PBR) are compared to determine if a previous failed labral repair influences t

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the bone union process after arthroscopic bony Bankart repair (ABBR) in shoulders with a subcritical glenoid defect of 13.5% or larger.
METHODS: Bone union process after ABBR performed from 2011 to 2018 were retrospectively investigated in 47 athletes younger than 30 years with a subcritical glenoid defect, who underwent CT at least twice postoperatively. The change of bone union between first CT within 6 months and final CT later than 6 months was investigated, especially noticing bone fragment size (≥7.5% versus <7.5%).

BACKGROUND: In this study, we aimed to provide insight into the 90-day complication rates following the Latarjet procedure. Data from 2015 were collected from multiple hospitals in the Netherlands, with different volumes of Latarjet procedures. Our second aim was to examine which patient and surgical factors were associated with complications.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of 13 hospitals between 2015 and 2022. Data regarding complications within 90 days of Latarjet procedures were extracted. The effect of sex, age, body mass index (BMI), smoking, previous shoulder operat

PURPOSE: To compare collagenase injection with surgical fasciectomy in Dupuytren disease (DD) for the prevalence of contracture in treated fingers 5 years after treatment.
METHODS: This was a single-center, comparative cohort study comprising 2 cohorts of patients treated for DD in 1 or more of 3 ulnar fingers with collagenase injection (159 patients) or surgical fasciectomy (59 patients). At 5 years after treatment, 13 collagenase-treated and 8 fasciectomy-treated patients had undergone subsequent treatment on the treated fingers and were considered to have current contracture. BACKGROUND: The incidence of median nerve injuries in pediatric elbow dislocations is approximately 3% and avulsion of the open medial epicondylar epiphysis in the pediatric population is one predisposing factor that may explain this age predilection. These lesions can be difficult to diagnose in the acute phase because symptoms tend to be mild or delayed, consequently their management can be challenging and functional outcome poorer.
METHODS: We present the case of an unrecognized median nerve entrapment in a 16-year-old boy with posterior dislocation of the elbow and a medial epicondyle fra

BACKGROUND: The clinical sign of patellar laxity and the associated symptom of apprehension are mainstays of the physical examination of patellofemoral instability. The apprehension test is widely used as a diagnostic tool and also as an outcome following patellofemoral stabilization surgery. Despite widespread use, the validity, reliability, and responsiveness of the apprehension test have not been established.
PURPOSE: The primary purpose was to evaluate patellar apprehension in patients with recurrent patellofemoral instability to determine if the apprehension test is valid, reliable, and

PURPOSE: Systematic reviews report return to play (RTP) within 5.8 months (range, 3-8) following the Latarjet procedure, but the factors that influence RTP remain unknown. The present study aimed to report the rate and time of return to play (RTP) during the first 8 months following the Latarjet procedure, and to determine the influence of sport type or patient characteristics.
METHODS: The authors retrospectively collected the records of patients that underwent Latarjet procedures for anterior shoulder instability between 2015 and 2017. Patients were excluded if they had any concomitant rota

BACKGROUND: Recently, arthroscopic double-button Latarjet (AL) has provided an alternative to conventional open Latarjet (OL) in the treatment of anterior shoulder instability with glenoid bone loss. Therefore, theoretically, the faster fusion is obtained, the sooner return to sports under safe conditions can occur. The emerging flexible fixation of the bone block has clearly offered a new approach to achieve bone fusion. However, the period required to achieve this goal remains controversial.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose was to compare computed tomography (CT) scan results of AL and OL in

INTRODUCTION: Arthroscopic Latarjet surgery is a technique developed to minimize invasive surgical treatment of anterior shoulder instability. However, compared to an open Latarjet operation, it is considered more technically demanding. The aim of our study was to assess its mid-term success rate in the hands of a surgeon with sufficient experience.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included 32 patients with recurrent anterior shoulder instability in the analysed cohort who had undergone arthroscopic intervention according to Latarjet as a revision after a previous failed Bankart operation or in the c

BACKGROUND: No clear guidelines or widespread consensus has defined a threshold value of tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance for choosing the appropriate surgical procedures when additional tibial tuberosity osteotomy (TTO) should be added to augment medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction for recurrent patellar instability.
PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes between MPFL reconstruction and MPFL reconstruction with TTO for patients who have patellar instability with a TT-TG distance of 15 to 25 mm.
STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) repair is discouraged for the treatment of chronic, recurrent patellar instability (RPI) because of high reported failure rates. However, the senior author uses MPFL repair for chronic RPI in the setting of low tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance. In this retrospective case series, we report results and evaluate outcome predictors. We used billing records to identify all patients, 14 years or older, who underwent isolated repair for chronic RPI performed by a single surgeon between September 2010 and February 2019. The TT-TG distance, patella

BACKGROUND: The Samilson-Prieto classification (SPC) depending on the humeral osteophyte length on a-pX-rays today is widely used to classify glenohumeral osteoarthritis in general. For treatment planning and prognosis, the patho-morphology of the glenoid and static posterior subluxation of the humeral head classified according to Walch is of much higher importance. Here, usually a CT or MRI scan is required for a correct classification. A possible correlation between both classifications is poorly explored. Without it, the complexity of the case might be mis-interpreted using the SPC. The aim

STUDY DESIGN: Case report.
INTRODUCTION: Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) typically presents with fever, rash, anterior uveitis, and/or joint pain. We present three cases with initial torticollis due to rotatory subluxation of C1-C2 as an initial sign of JRA.
CASE REPORTS: Three girls, ages 5-9, presented with C1-2 rotatory subluxation. Traction was able to reduce the atlanto-axial joint in all cases. Based on imaging, history, exam, and laboratory results, they were diagnosed with JRA. After reduction of the atlantoaxial joint, they were transitioned to a halo vest and disease-modifying
