[Recent Advances in the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C].

A chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains a major global health concern, with an estimated 50 million affected individuals. In South Korea, the prevalence of anti-HCV antibodies ranges from 0.6% to 0.8%, mainly in older adults. Untreated infections can progress to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and liver failure. The introduction of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) has transformed treatments, achieving sustained virologic response rates above 95% in most populations. Pan-genotypic regimens, including sofosbuvir/velpatasvir and glecaprevir/pibrentasvir, provide simplified,

The impact of obstetric violence on postpartum quality of life through psychological pathways.

Pregnancy and childbirth as important events in women's lives should be guided based on quality and humanized principles. This study aimed to test a conceptual model considering the interrelated role of obstetric violence, mental health, self-esteem, and PTSD on the postpartum quality of life (PQOL) using path analysis. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 385 parturient women who have given birth from January to May 2022 using the convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a socio-demographic checklist, EPREVO, DASS-21, PCL-5, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and PQOL scales. P

Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophies in Romania: a 10-year Retrospective Study.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare fatal genetic disorder with a tight correlation between the genotype and the phenotype of the patients. However, the relationship between genotype and phenotype is yet incompletely understood, with some cases manifesting a different phenotype than predicted from their genotype. Since the genetic diagnosis is often targeted to specific gene sections, and the genotype-phenotype correlations guide early treatment decisions, accumulating clinical and epidemiological data for these rare disorders is required to refine local management strategies. Results of a multicenter, randomized trial examining a new transition model for post-kidney transplant adolescents.

Allograft loss after pediatric kidney transplantation (KTx) is highest in adolescents and young adults. Non-adherence and Health Care Transition (HCT) are important factors, but others also contribute. In the TransNephro study patients were randomized 1:1. The intervention group was included in the Berlin Transition Program (BTP) and incorporated a central case manager, a communication app, and joined transition rounds for one year before and one year after transfer. Primary endpoint was the coefficient of variation (CoV) of the trough level of the calcineurin inhibitor as a surrogate marker f

Effectiveness of a headache awareness campaign on behavioral change.

Headache is a significant public health issue due to its high prevalence, associated disability, and socioeconomic burden. In Japan, awareness of migraine prevention and the risks of medication overuse remains limited. This study examined whether increasing knowledge about headaches through an online educational campaign could lead to behavioral changes, such as more frequent visits to headache clinics and reduced misuse of headache medications. An online educational program on headaches was conducted for 1,829 hospital staff members, who first completed a questionnaire before watching an educ

Overcoming Barriers to Developing and Implementing Novel Therapies for Hypertension.

Hypertension is the single most important modifiable risk factor for preventable disability and death worldwide and disproportionately affects socially disadvantaged populations. We face a paradox-blood pressure control is low and recent trends suggest it is even declining, despite the availability of inexpensive and effective therapies. A variety of barriers on the system, patient, and healthcare provider side hinder effective drug-based risk factor management. Clinical inertia represents a major barrier on the clinician side, as well as workload and limited education. Common barriers on the

BACKGROUND: Nausea and vomiting are frequent complaints during pregnancy, which can be accompanied by marital discord and sexual dissatisfaction, in addition to the hospitalization of pregnant women. Given the potential side effects of pharmaceutical treatments on both the mother and fetus, many women prefer non-pharmacological interventions. This study will assess the impact of an educational program based on the Ottawa Nutritional Guide on symptoms in pregnant women and explore sexual satisfaction as a secondary outcome. METHODS: In this randomized controlled clinical trial, a total of 60 p

The effect of prophylactic FVIII infusion combined with personalized rehabilitation on joint health and quality of life in children with hemophilia.

BACKGROUND: Hemophilia, a genetic disorder characterized by deficiencies in clotting factors VIII or IX, often results in joint and muscle bleeding, leading to hemophilic arthropathy and reduced quality of life. While multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) are widely used in hemophilia management, personalized rehabilitation strategies for pediatric patients remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate a 12-week individualized rehabilitation program targeting joint health in pediatric hemophilia patients. METHODS: This prospective study enrolled 59 children with hemophilia, implementing tailore

Vaccine hesitancy and bone health: Musculoskeletal sequelae of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Vaccine hesitancy threatens global health by diminishing herd immunity and permitting the return of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) including poliomyelitis, measles and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). These infections carry short-term and long-term musculoskeletal consequences, such as paralysis, limb deformities, septic or reactive arthritis, osteomyelitis and chronic pain, that place an ever increasing burden on orthopaedic services. This narrative review synthesizes clinical and epidemiological evidence linking sub-optimal immunization to orthopaedic morbidity caused by major VPDs.
