PURPOSE: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) during pregnancy is rare and associated with increased morbidity and mortality for both mother and fetus. This review aims to draw together recent thinking on pregnancy and pHPT.
METHODS: We have performed a Pubmed (Medline(®)) search with no time limit using "primary hyperparathyroidism", "pregnancy" or "management" as keywords. We reviewed 37 articles in English and French languages on pHPT characteristics, clinical presentations, pregnancy complications, birth outcomes and management of pHPT during pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Despite successful transcatheter aortic valve interventions (TAVIs), a residual risk of heart failure (HF) hospitalization persists.
RESULTS: A total of 37 490 patients from Optum's de-identified Clinformatics Data Mart were included. HF diagnosis was recorded in 21 283 (56.9%) patients during a year before TAVI. One-/two-year risks for a composite of HF hospitalization and mortality were 15.6% [95% confidence interval (CI), 15.2-16.0]/25.4% (95% CI, 24.8-25.9). Post-TAVI, HF medication prescriptions remained low.

Ebstein anomaly is a myopathy of the right ventricle that results in variable degrees of failure of delamination of the tricuspid valve leaflets from the underlying endocardium, leading to severe tricuspid valve regurgitation and some degree of right ventricular dysfunction. In neonates or infants who remain in congestive heart failure or profoundly cyanotic while receiving appropriate medical therapy, operation is required. Current strategies include biventricular or single-ventricle repair. In children and adults, medical management may be used, but most patients eventually require surgery.
