Brain Nocardiosis Mimicking Intracerebral Invasion on 68 Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT in a Patient With Multiple Myeloma.

Brain nocardiosis is an uncommon but severe disease associated with high mortality. We present a case of brain nocardiosis with elevated tracer uptake on both 68 Ga-pentixafor and 18 F-FDG PET/CT, mimicking intracerebral invasion of multiple myeloma. This case demonstrates that nocardiosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of brain lesions found on PET/CT with increased tracer accumulation in immunocompromised patients.

Peritoneal Actinomycosis After Bariatric Surgery Mimicking a Peritoneal Carcinomatosis on 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

A 54-year-old man with a history of bypass surgery 3 years ago presented with ascites, abdominal pain, and a decline in general health. CT and 18 F-FDG PET/CT suggested peritoneal carcinomatosis, but histology revealed peritoneal actinomycosis. This rare peritoneal infection can occur after digestive surgeries, such as bariatric procedures, due to disruption of the digestive barrier, allowing actinomycosis to spread outside its typical anatomical location. Clinicians should consider this diagnosis after bariatric surgery, even years later, especially in the absence of neoplastic disease.

Asymptomatic Prostate Cancer Metastasis in Rectal Mucosa Revealed by 18 F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT.

Prostate cancer metastasis to the rectal mucosa, a relatively rare metastatic site, leads to a higher clinical stage and poorer prognosis. A 65-year-old man with prostate cancer underwent 18 F-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/CT for staging. Intense 18 F-PSMA uptake occurred at the primary lesion, bladder, adjacent seminal vesicle, and rectum. PET/CT imaging revealed increased homogeneous round activity of the rectal wall. The final diagnosis was prostate cancer metastasis to the rectal mucosa. This case suggested that 18 F-PSMA PET/CT may assist in locating rare metastases of pro

FDG PET/CT in a Case of Pure Ductal Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate With Osteolytic Metastases and Normal PSA Level.

Prostatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an uncommon aggressive subtype of prostate carcinoma. It is more likely to present with advanced stage and lower prostate-specific antigen. We describe FDG PET/CT findings in a case of pure prostatic ductal adenocarcinoma with lymph node, bone and lung metastases, normal serum prostate-specific antigen level, and elevated serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and carbohydrate antigen 724 levels. The primary tumor, and lymph node and bone metastases were hypermetabolic. All the bone metastases were osteolytic. The multiple lung metastases showed no significant FDG u

Longitudinal DAT changes measured with [18F]FE-PE2I PET in patients with Parkinson's disease; a validation study.

BACKGROUND: Dopamine transporter (DAT) PET provides higher resolution than DAT SPECT and opportunity for integrated imaging with MRI. The radioligand [18F]FE-PE2I is highly selective for the DAT, and PET measurements with this radioligand have good reliability and repeatability in patients with non-advanced Parkinson's disease. OBJECTIVES: To validate [18F]FE-PE2I PET as measurement tool of longitudinal DAT changes in patients with Parkinson's disease. METHODS: Thirty-seven subjects with Parkinson's disease (Hoehn and Yahr stage < 3) were included in a longitudinal PET study with [18F]FE-PE2

Tau protein spreads through functionally connected neurons in Alzheimer's disease: a combined MEG/PET study.

Recent studies on Alzheimer's disease (AD) suggest that tau proteins spread through the brain following neuronal connections. Several mechanisms could be involved in this process: spreading between brain regions that interact strongly (functional connectivity); through the pattern of anatomical connections (structural connectivity); or simple diffusion. Using magnetoencephalography (MEG), we investigated which spreading pathways influence tau protein spreading by modelling the tau propagation process using an epidemic spreading model. We compared the modelled tau depositions with 18F-flortauci

Simultaneous high-resolution whole-brain MR spectroscopy and [18F]FDG PET for temporal lobe epilepsy.

PURPOSE: Precise lateralizing the epileptogenic zone in patients with drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) remains challenging, particularly when routine MRI scans are inconclusive (MRI-negative). This study aimed to investigate the synergy of fast, high-resolution, whole-brain MRSI in conjunction with simultaneous [18F]FDG PET for the lateralization of mTLE. METHODS: Forty-eight drug-resistant mTLE patients (M/F 31/17, age 12-58) underwent MRSI and [18F]FDG PET on a hybrid PET/MR scanner. Lateralization of mTLE was evaluated by visual inspection and statistical classifiers of

FDG-PET shows weak correlation between focal motor weakness and brain metabolic alterations in ALS.

Objective: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a clinically heterogenous disease, typically presenting with focal motor weakness that eventually generalizes. Weather there is a correlation between focal motor weakness and metabolic alterations in specific areas of the brain has not been thoroughly explored. This study aims to systematically investigate this by using fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), including longitudinal imaging. Methods: This observational imaging study included 131 ALS patients diagnosed and examined with FDG-PET at the ALS Clinical Research Cent

Baseline 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics for prognosis prediction in diffuse large B cell lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in adults. Standard treatment includes chemoimmunotherapy with R-CHOP or similar regimens. Despite treatment advancements, many patients with DLBCL experience refractory disease or relapse. While baseline 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) parameters have shown promise in predicting survival, they may not fully capture lesion heterogeneity. This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of baseline 18F-FDG PET radiomics features in comparison with clinical factor

A different perspective on PET/CT before treatment in patients with Hodgkin lymphoma: importance of volumetric and dissemination parameters.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of the combination of volumetric and dissemination parameters obtained from pretreatment 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in predicting the interim response and progression status in patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). Pretreatment PET/CT images of HL patients were analyzed with LIFEx software, and volumes of interest (VOIs) were drawn with a fixed SUV 4.0 threshold. MTV, SUVmax, and TLG values were obtained from each VOI. Total MTV (tMTV) was calculated by summing the MTV values in all VOI

DMCT-Net: dual modules convolution transformer network for head and neck tumor segmentation in PET/CT.

Objective.Accurate segmentation of head and neck (H&N) tumors is critical in radiotherapy. However, the existing methods lack effective strategies to integrate local and global information, strong semantic information and context information, and spatial and channel features, which are effective clues to improve the accuracy of tumor segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel method called dual modules convolution transformer network (DMCT-Net) for H&N tumor segmentation in the fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) images.Approach.The DMCT-Net co

Follow-up of the GHSG HD16 trial of PET-guided treatment in early-stage favorable Hodgkin lymphoma.

The primary analysis of the GHSG HD16 trial indicated a significant loss of tumor control with PET-guided omission of radiotherapy (RT) in patients with early-stage favorable Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). This analysis reports long-term outcomes. Overall, 1150 patients aged 18-75 years with newly diagnosed early-stage favorable HL were randomized between standard combined-modality treatment (CMT) (2x ABVD followed by PET/CT [PET-2] and 20 Gy involved-field RT) and PET-2-guided treatment omitting RT in case of PET-2 negativity (Deauville score [DS] < 3). The study aimed at excluding inferiority of PET

Ovarian Metastasis From Diffuse Epithelioid Malignant Mesothelioma Revealed by 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

Diffuse epithelioid malignant mesothelioma (MM) with metastasis to the ovary is rare. We reported FDG PET/CT findings in a 39-year-old woman with ovarian metastasis from diffuse epithelioid MM. The ultrasound findings at the external hospital revealed multiple masses in the hepatic hilus. FDG PET/CT examination was recommended to evaluate the nature of the lesions. It showed that 2 hypodense lesions in the perihepatic space had intense activity, and there was an additional FDG lesion in the right ovary, which was later confirmed as diffuse epithelioid MM with ovarian metastasis by pathological

Effect of budesonide on pulmonary activity of multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 assessed with PET imaging in rats.

Multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1/ABCC1) is a highly abundant efflux transporter in the lungs, which protects cells from toxins and oxidative stress and has been implicated in the pathophysiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. There is evidence from in vitro studies that the inhaled glucocorticoid budesonide can inhibit MRP1 activity. We used positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with 6-bromo-7-[11C]methylpurine ([11C]BMP), which is transformed in vivo into a radiolabeled MRP1 substrate, to assess whether intratracheally (i.t.) aerosolized bude

Deep learning for [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose-PET-CT classification in patients with lymphoma: a dual-centre retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: The rising global cancer burden has led to an increasing demand for imaging tests such as [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG)-PET-CT. To aid imaging specialists in dealing with high scan volumes, we aimed to train a deep learning artificial intelligence algorithm to classify [18F]FDG-PET-CT scans of patients with lymphoma with or without hypermetabolic tumour sites. METHODS: In this retrospective analysis we collected 16 583 [18F]FDG-PET-CTs of 5072 patients with lymphoma who had undergone PET-CT before or after treatment at the Memorial Sloa Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY,

Phospho-tau with subthreshold tau-PET predicts increased tau accumulation rates in amyloid-positive individuals.

Different tau biomarkers become abnormal at different stages of Alzheimer's disease, with CSF phospho-tau typically becoming elevated at subthreshold levels of tau-PET binding. To capitalize on the temporal order of tau biomarker-abnormality and capture the earliest changes of tau accumulation, we implemented an observational study design to examine longitudinal changes in tau-PET, cortical thickness and cognitive decline in amyloid-β-positive individuals with elevated CSF p-tau levels (P+) but subthreshold Tau-PET retention (T-). To this end, individuals without dementia (i.e. cognitively uni
