BACKGROUND: The aim of this work was to study in vivo the perilesional skin in vitiligo with a colorimetric method.
METHODS: Twenty-five patients affected by vitiligo were included. For each patient, three different areas were considered: the lesional, the perilesional and the normal skin as far as 5 cm from the nearest vitiligo spot. Skin pigmentation measurements were performed with a chromameter.

PURPOSE: To investigate the incidence of latanoprost-related adverse events of the cornea, iris, and retina and the occurrence of hyperpigmentation.
METHODS: An open-label safety surveillance study was conducted in 14 countries. Patients on intraocular pressure (IOP)-reducing therapy other than latanoprost were eligible if they required a change in therapy. Patients were randomly assigned (2:1) to latanoprost administered once daily or to usual care (any other commercially available medication). Patients were examined at baseline and every 6 months for 5 years.

BACKGROUND: A rising number of laser- or light-based therapies are addressing the need for effective acne treatments with minimal downtime.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate an intense pulsed light (IPL) equipped with a 530- to 750-nm filter for inflammatory acne treatment.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty female patients (mean age, 25.7 years) with mild-to-moderate acne were enrolled. While using benzoyl peroxide (BP) gel, one side of the face was treated with the PR filter (acne filter) of the IPL.

Latanoprost, used clinically in the treatment of glaucoma, induces growth of lashes and ancillary hairs around the eyelids. Manifestations include greater thickness and length of lashes, additional lash rows, conversion of vellus to terminal hairs in canthal areas as well as in regions adjacent to lash rows. In conjunction with increased growth, increased pigmentation occurs. Vellus hairs of the lower eyelids also undergo increased growth and pigmentation. PURPOSE: To report a series of cases showing bilateral circumpapillary hyperpigmentation on routine fundus examination.
METHODS: In this observational case series, three patients showing bilateral circumpapillary hyperpigmentation on routine fundus examination were included. Multimodal retinal imaging was done for these cases.

This paper describes the cytologic findings in a rare condition, Coats' disease, which was diagnosed from a sample of ocular aspirate in a 19-month-old boy. The cytologic findings were characterized by the presence of numerous cholesterol crystals, rare foamy macrophages, several pigment-laden macrophages, pigment-bearing epithelial cells and free pigment, which stained positive for melanin by Schmorl's stain. Based on single-unit recordings from the superior colliculus and optic nerve, albino rats recently were reported to have dark-adapted thresholds that are 2 log units higher than those of pigmented rats.
