The Use of Inhaled Nitric Oxide in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.

BACKGROUND: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a complex congenital defect of the diaphragm that allows abdominal contents to herniate into the chest cavity, altering pulmonary development, and leading to pulmonary hypoplasia and hypertension. Patient presentation is variable in severity, making management difficult. Many common management strategies have improved the survival rate of infants with CDH, including gentle ventilation and permissive hypercapnia. Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) is a potent, pulmonary vasodilator that has shown to improve oxygenation while decreasing pulmonary pres

Diabetes management in an Australian primary care population.

WHAT IS KNOWN AND OBJECTIVE: Worldwide studies have shown that significant proportions of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) do not meet targets for glycaemic control, blood pressure (BP) and lipids, putting them at higher risk of developing complications. However, little is known about medicines management in Australian primary care populations with T2DM. The aim of this study was to (i) describe the management of a large group of patients in primary care, (ii) identify areas for improvement in management and (iii) determine any relationship between adherence and glycaemic, BP and lipid con

[Chinese clinical practice guidelines for transarterial interventions of hepatocellular carcinoma (2026 edition)].

Transarterial interventions (TAI) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) include transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), transarterial embolization (TAE), hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC), and selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). TACE remains the first-line treatment for unresectable HCC. Chinese College of Interventionalists (CCI) previously issued and updated the Chinese Clinical Practice Guidelines of TACE for HCC in 2018, 2021, and 2023, which have played a pivotal role in standardizing TACE procedures in China. In recent years, the application of HAIC and SIRT has become

Small Cell Lung Cancer in Transition: Recent Advances in Biology, Treatment, and Precision Medicine.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive neuroendocrine malignancy associated with rapid proliferation, early metastatic spread, and poor long-term survival. Despite high initial responsiveness to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, most patients experience relapse, and therapeutic progress historically remained limited. Recent years, however, have seen meaningful advances that are beginning to reshape the management of SCLC. In extensive-stage disease, the incorporation of PD-L1 inhibitors into platinum-etoposide chemotherapy has established chemoimmunotherapy as the first-line standar

The Critical Role of Community Pharmacists in Blood Pressure Monitoring.

Arterial hypertension is the most important modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In some countries, pharmacists' patient-centered approach has become a common practice, and their role in supporting the management of cardiovascular disease has been successfully developed for years. In particular, recent findings have confirmed benefits of pharmacist-provided hypertension care. Current guidelines emphasize the need for regular BP measurements in subjects age 40 years and older, who are at increased risk of hypertension. A panel of experts in cardiology, hypertensiol

Biomarkers in congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Monitoring of hormone replacement therapy represents a major challenge in the management of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). In the absence of clear guidance and standardised monitoring strategies, there is no consensus among clinicians regarding the relevance of various biochemical markers used in practice, leading to wide variability in their application and interpretation. In this review, we summarise the published evidence on biochemical monitoring of CAH. We discuss temporal variations of the most commonly measured biomarkers throughout the day, the interrelationship between differen
