Cancer Screening and Citizenship Status in the US.

IMPORTANCE: Immigrants without US citizenship, or noncitizens, disproportionately endure poverty, labor exclusions, and inadequate health care access-structural drivers of adverse cancer outcomes. While screening is critical for preventing cancer deaths, and cancer is the leading cause of death among noncitizens, little is known about citizenship status and its potential influence on cancer screening. OBJECTIVES: To examine cancer screening inequities associated with citizenship status, evaluate whether these inequities vary across states, and determine whether structural factors mediate thes

Compulsory community and involuntary outpatient treatment for people with severe mental disorders.

BACKGROUND: There is controversy as to whether compulsory community treatment for people with severe mental illnesses reduces health service use, or improves clinical outcome and social functioning. Given the widespread use of such powers it is important to assess the effects of this type of legislation. OBJECTIVES: To examine the clinical and cost effectiveness of compulsory community treatment for people with severe mental illness. SEARCH STRATEGY: We undertook searches of the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group Register to 2003 and Science Citation Index. We obtained all references of identified

Clinical and cost-effectiveness of a personalised health promotion intervention enabling independence in older people with mild frailty ('HomeHealth') compared to treatment as usual: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is clinically associated with multiple adverse outcomes, including reduced quality of life and functioning, falls, hospitalisations, moves to long-term care and mortality. Health services commonly focus on the frailest, with highest levels of need. However, evidence suggests that frailty is likely to be more reversible in people who are less frail. Evidence is emerging on what interventions may help prevent or reduce frailty, such as resistance exercises and multi-component interventions, but few interventions are based on behaviour change theory. There is little evidence o

The role of costing in the introduction and scale-up of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis: evidence from integrating PrEP into routine maternal and child health and family planning clinics in western Kenya.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding the cost of strategies to reach and deliver pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to priority populations is essential to assess the cost-effectiveness and budget impact of HIV prevention programmes. Providing PrEP through maternal and child health and family planning clinics offers a promising strategy to reach women in high HIV burden settings. We estimated incremental costs and explored the cost drivers of integrating PrEP delivery into routine maternal and child health and family planning services in Kenya. METHODS: We conducted a costing study from the provider pers

Disparities in access to and use of HIV-related health services in the Netherlands by migrant status and sexual orientation: a cross-sectional study among people recently diagnosed with HIV infection.

BACKGROUND: Migrants often face barriers to accessing healthcare. We examined disparities in access to and use of HIV-related health services between migrant and non-migrant people recently diagnosed with HIV living in the Netherlands, taken into account sexual orientation. Also, we examined differences in experiences in living with HIV between these groups. METHODS: We used a questionnaire and clinical data collected between July 2013 and June 2015 among migrant and non-migrant participants of the European cross-sectional aMASE (Advancing Migrant Access to health Services in Europe) study in

Suicide Prevention Competencies Among Muslim Faith Leaders in Canada: Levels and Determinants from a Cross-Sectional Study.

Suicide prevention is a critical public health issue, yet little is known about how prepared Muslim faith leaders are to handle situations involving suicidal distress. Despite serving as key sources of support within their communities, their readiness and the factors influencing it remain understudied. This study addresses this gap by assessing the levels of Suicide Prevention Competency (SPC) among Muslim faith leaders in Canada and identifying the main determinants of these competencies. A national online survey was conducted between September and December 2025 using purposive and convenienc

A Review of Early Childhood Caries: Risk Factors, Management, and Policy Recommendations.

Initially, the American Academy of Pedodontics and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) jointly addressed severe tooth decay related to bottle use by issuing a statement on Nursing Bottle Caries. However, over the next two decades, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) expanded its understanding, recognising that early childhood caries (ECC) resulted from various inadequate feeding practices, leading to the adoption of the broader term "ECC" to better reflect its complex causes. This review discusses ECC: its prevalence, risk factors, effects, prevention, early detection, and

Community-based approaches for prevention of mother to child transmission in resource-poor settings: a social ecological review.

INTRODUCTION: Numerous barriers to optimal uptake of prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) services occur at community level (i.e., outside the healthcare setting). To achieve elimination of paediatric HIV, therefore, interventions must also work within communities to address these barriers and increase service use and need to be informed by evidence. This paper reviews community-based approaches that have been used in resource-limited settings to increase rates of PMTCT enrolment, retention in care and successful treatment outcomes. It aims to identify which interventions work, w

Willingness to pay for HIV pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis services delivered via an online pharmacy in Kenya.

BACKGROUND: HIV pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP/PEP) provision via online pharmacies could expand reach of HIV prevention in Eastern and Southern Africa, but designing sustainable delivery models will require assessing the amount potential users are willing to pay for online PrEP/PEP provision. METHODS: We administered willingness to pay (WTP) questionnaires to both potential online PrEP users and current online PrEP/PEP users in Nairobi, Kenya using a stated preference approach to measure the amount participants were willing to pay for PrEP/PEP service delivery components. HIV prevention, treatment, and care services for people who inject drugs: a systematic review of global, regional, and national coverage.

BACKGROUND: Previous reviews have examined the existence of HIV prevention, treatment, and care services for injecting drug users (IDUs) worldwide, but they did not quantify the scale of coverage. We undertook a systematic review to estimate national, regional, and global coverage of HIV services in IDUs. METHODS: We did a systematic search of peer-reviewed (Medline, BioMed Central), internet, and grey-literature databases for data published in 2004 or later. A multistage process of data requests and verification was undertaken, involving UN agencies and national experts. National data were o

Integration of female genital schistosomiasis into HIV/sexual and reproductive health and rights and neglected tropical diseases programmes and services: a scoping review.

Female genital schistosomiasis (FGS) affects approximately 56 million women and girls across sub-Saharan Africa and is associated with up to a threefold increased prevalence of HIV. Integrating FGS with HIV programmes as part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services may be one of the most significant missed opportunities for preventing HIV incidence among girls and women. A search of studies published until October 2021 via Scopus and ProQuest was conducted using PRISMA guidelines to assess how FGS can be integrated into HIV/SRH and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) prog

The Potential for Anti-Stigma Interventions to Change Public Attitudes Toward Minor-Attracted Persons: A Replication and Extension of Jara and Jeglic's Study.

From a public health perspective, ensuring access to, and uptake of, support services for people concerned about their sexual thoughts and behavior is essential to the prevention of child sexual abuse. However, public and fiscal support for these services can be adversely affected by negative preconceptions regarding minor-attracted persons (MAPs); negative stigma may also limit MAPs' engagement with such services. Using a randomized-control design, the present study replicated and extended a recent US study to test effects of different modes of educational messaging to reduce negative attitud

The benefits of a public pharmacist service in chronic hepattis C treatment: The real-life results of sofosbuvir-based therapy.

BACKGROUND: In Brazil, the sofosbuvir-based therapy was introduced in the public health system (SUS) in 2015 to treat Chronic Hepatitis C (CHC). This drug and other direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) represent a major advance in the HCV-infection treatment due to their high effectiveness and tolerability. However, the drug safety profile is limited by significant drug interactions and its use is restricted for their high cost. Pharmacists have the opportunity to improve patient care by monitoring the therapy, recommending strategies to guarantee treatment adherence, effectiveness and safety
