A novel and validated survey explores quality of life outcomes in transgender women following vaginoplasty.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate patient-reported outcomes following vaginoplasty in transgender individuals using a novel and validated Affirming Surgery Form and Function Individual Reporting Measure. METHODS: A total of 279 transgender patients completed the Affirming Surgery Form and Function Individual Reporting Measure survey, reporting on their experiences with feminizing gender-affirming surgery outcomes (F-GAS). Surveys were given to patients via email before F-GAS, at 2 weeks, 6 months and 12 months post-operatively. Pre- and post-F-GAS responses were compared using Wilcoxon

Integrated Telehealth Rehabilitation and Quality of Life in Mechanically Ventilated Adults: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Whether integrated rehabilitation strategies spanning intensive care unit (ICU), hospital, and postdischarge phases improve quality of life after acute respiratory failure is uncertain. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of an integrated multicomponent telehealth-based rehabilitation intervention on health-related quality of life at 90 days after hospital discharge among adults with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure requiring invasive mechanical ventilation. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This stepped-wedge cluster randomized clinical trial in ICUs of 20 public hospitals in

Longitudinal Visual Field and Quality-of-Life Change in the Treatment for Advanced Glaucoma Study.

PURPOSE: Progressive visual field (VF) loss resulting from glaucoma affects quality of life (QoL). Although treatments aim to preserve vision, the extent to which slowing VF loss translates into QoL changes in advanced disease is not understood fully. We compare the 5-year rate of VF and QoL change and examined their correlation in the Treatment for Advanced Glaucoma Study. DESIGN: Multicenter randomized clinical trial (27 secondary care glaucoma departments in the UK). PARTICIPANTS: Adults (n = 453) with newly diagnosed advanced open-angle glaucoma in at least 1 eye were randomized to trabe

Online Comprehensive Care Therapy Complementary Program Improves Quality of Life in People with Parkinson's Disease.

Objectives: Non-pharmacological therapies are a cornerstone of Parkinson's disease (PD) treatment, but there is not enough evidence of their benefit when delivered altogether online. Our objective was to analyze the efficacy and safety of an online comprehensive care therapy program (OL-CCTP) in people with PD (PwP). Material and methods: This was a proof-of-concept experimental, prospective, 6-month interventional study comparing a PD treatment group (PwP-T) with a control group (PwP-C). The OL-CCTP included group sessions of physical therapy/therapeutic exercise, nutrition, speech therapy, c

Quality of life in children and adults with epidermolysis bullosa: the QoL-REB explorative study.

BACKGROUND: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare inherited disorder characterized by skin and mucosal fragility, with severe implications for physical, psychological, and social well-being. Research on quality of life (QoL) in EB remains limited, particularly in Italy, where systematic patient-reported outcome measures are lacking. To address this gap, Fondazione REB ETS developed a patient-centered QoL questionnaire (QoL-REB) constructed directly by patients and caregivers, with support from clinicians and researchers. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey between March and A

Symptom Burden and Quality of Life in Patients With Severe Mental Disorders Initiating Cancer Treatment.

BACKGROUND: Patients with pre-existing severe mental disorders (SMDs), defined as moderate to severe depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia, face barriers to optimal cancer care and may experience elevated mental and physical symptom burden and reduced quality of life. AIMS: To assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychiatric symptom burden among patients with SMD before initiating cancer treatment. METHODS: In this case-control study, 120 patients with lung, breast, or head and neck cancer were included. The patients were matched 1:2 with controls without SMD, using sex

Walking performance is associated with quality of life and disability in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects the patients physical and psychological state. Despite research, the relationships between quality of life (QoL), disability, and physical activity in MS remain insufficiently understood; this study examines associations in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). METHODS: A total of 41 patients with RRMS with an Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) level of 0-5.5 and 20 healthy controls completed the MS Functional Composite (MSFC) test, the RAND-physical component summary (RAND-PCS), the RAND-mental component summary (RAND-MC

Moral sensitivity and professional quality of life in EMS personnel: a cross-sectional multicenter study.

INTRODUCTION: Moral sensitivity plays a crucial role in clinical decision-making and patient interactions among Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. Although moral sensitivity and professional quality of life have been studied in hospital-based healthcare providers, little evidence exists regarding EMS personnel, who face unique challenges such as heavy workloads, workplace violence, and frequent ethical dilemmas in unpredictable environments. These gaps highlight the necessity of investigating the relationship between moral sensitivity and professional quality of life in this context.

Parental quality of life and its predictors in Jordanian families with children with cerebral palsy.

BACKGROUND: The lifelong care responsibilities associated with cerebral palsy (CP) may place significant physical and psychological burdens on parents, which might hinder their quality of life (QOL). Despite their importance, factors affecting parents' QOL in CP cases remain understudied globally, including Jordan. This study aimed to assess the QOL of parents of children with CP and investigate its predictors. METHODS: Sociodemographic factors were evaluated in this cross-sectional study for both the parents and their children with CP. The parents' QOL and musculoskeletal pain were assessed

Beyond Survival: Assessing Quality of Life, Activity Level, and Ethnic Diversity in Aortic Dissection Survivors.

BACKGROUND: An acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a highly lethal condition that demands immediate medical intervention. Survivors often face significant long-term challenges. While immediate survival remains a critical focus in acute care settings, little is known about long-term results, especially with regard to activity levels, post-operative quality of life, and the impact of cultural and ethnic characteristics on recovery. Using data from the Dutch National Aortic Dissection Survivor's Day, this study examines QoL, activity levels, and ethnic diversity among survivors. METHODS: All patien

Tele-exercise and spinal cord injury: Effects on physical activity, strength, and quality of life.

CONTEXT: People with spinal cord injuries (SCI) face barriers to physical activity, which a synchronous tele-exercise program aims to overcome. OBJECTIVE: To assess strength, physical activity levels, and quality of life in people with SCI following a synchronous tele-exercise program. METHODS: Ten people with SCI (T3 = 1; T4 = 2; T6 = 2; T7 = 1; T10 = 2; T12 = 2) participated in a 12-week tele-exercise program, consisting of three weekly sessions focused on strength training. Before and after the intervention, participants underwent a strength test and completed the Physical Activity Scale

Periodontitis and quality of life in adults with cystic fibrosis - A pilot cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Attributes of cystic fibrosis (CF) can increase one's risk of developing periodontitis, and both CF and periodontitis are known to impact health-related quality of life (HRQoL). In this hypothesis-generating pilot study, our goals were to assess if periodontitis is associated with lower HRQoL for adults with CF and to identify sociodemographic, medical, and dental factors associated with HRQoL. METHODS: We conducted a pilot cross-sectional study of adults with CF ages ≥18 years at a single CF center (N = 32). HRQoL was assessed in two ways: (1) Oral health-related quality of life
