BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and posterior oblique ligament (POL) is necessary to restore stability in chronic lesions on the medial side of the knee. The Lind technique uses a single-strand, pedicled semitendinosus tendon autograft to perform continuous reconstruction of the MCL and POL. The LaPrade technique uses 2 free grafts: 1 graft for the MCL (double-strand semitendinosus tendon graft) and 1 graft for the POL (double-strand gracilis tendon graft).
PURPOSE: To investigate the LaPrade and Lind techniques in restraining tibial translation and rotation

BACKGROUND: Interest in biological augmentation for improving bone-tendon interface (BTI) healing after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) is growing. Dermal fibroblasts, known for collagen synthesis similar to tenocytes, have shown effectiveness in BTI healing in chronic rotator cuff tear (RCT) models in rabbits. However, no human clinical trials have been conducted.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of autologous dermal fibroblasts (ADFs) for BTI healing after ARCR in patients with full-thickness RCTs >2 cm.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 2.

BACKGROUND Pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) frequently accompanies rotator cuff tears. Whether concurrent LHBT tenotomy during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) adversely affects postoperative shoulder proprioception or upper-limb strength remains uncertain; intra-individual evidence is limited. MATERIAL AND METHODS A prospective intra-individual comparison was conducted at a single center between May 2018 and December 2021. Consecutive adults who underwent arthroscopic RCR with LHBT tenotomy were evaluated at a postoperative visit. Standardized assessments were perf

BACKGROUND: The results of rotator cuff (RC) repair surgery can be influenced by the presence of muscle atrophy and fatty infiltration. Three-dimensional (3D) quantitative data regarding those degenerative muscle changes after successful or failed RC repair are rare in the current literature.
HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze muscle volume and fatty infiltration of the supraspinatus muscle after successful and failed arthroscopic RC tendon repair, with a minimum follow-up of 5 years. It was hypothesized that RC muscle volume and fatty infiltration would improve afte

BACKGROUND: Posterosuperior irreparable rotator cuff tears (PSIRCTs) are challenging to manage. Lower trapezius tendon (LTT) transfer using an interpositional graft has shown promise in PSIRCTs, with tubularization of the graft potentially contributing to improved outcomes. This study investigates the graft's morphological changes and their impact on clinical outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 105 patients who underwent LTT transfer using interpositional grafts-65 Achilles tendon allografts and 40 fascia lata autografts-for the treatment of PSIRCTs, wit

Posterosuperior irreparable rotator cuff tears (PSIRCTs) are challenging to treat with both conservative and surgical approaches. Patients with PSIRCTs often have a high burden of suffering with regard to pain level and functional impairments. Different surgical treatment options are available for PSIRCTs depending on age, functional requirements, and grade of osteoarthritis: joint-preserving procedures such as arthroscopic debridement, partial repair with or without augmentation, superior capsular reconstruction, and subacromial balloon spacer for young and active patients and joint-replacing

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder osteoarthritis most commonly affects older adults, causing pain, reduced function and quality of life. Total shoulder replacements (TSRs) are indicated once other non-surgical options no longer provide adequate pain relief. Two main types of TSRs are widely used: anatomic TSR (aTSR) and reverse TSR (rTSR). It is not clear whether one TSR type provides better short- or long-term outcomes for patients, and which, if either, is more cost-effective for the National Health Service (NHS).

AIMS: We conducted a minimum 20-year follow-up of nonoperated hips that presented with borderline dysplasia (BD), defined as a lateral centre-edge angle (LCEA) of 18° to 25°, in cases of bilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) where unilateral rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) was performed. The study aimed to identify risk factors for the development of hip osteoarthritis (OA), the timing of OA onset, and hip survival rate in BD. For the timing of OA onset and hip survival rate, we compared cases of BD with cases having LCEA < 18° (definite DDH).
METHODS: The cases were divide

This study introduces a novel optimization framework for cranial three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA), combining the development of a brain equivalent in-house phantom with Figure of Merit (FOM) a quantitative evaluation method. The technical contribution involves the development of an in-house phantom constructed using iodine-infused epoxy and lycal resins, validated against clinical Hounsfield Units (HU). A customized head phantom was developed to simulate brain tissue and cranial vasculature for 3DRA optimization. The phantom was constructed using epoxy resin with 0.15-0.2% iodin

Facile and rapid 3D fabrication of strong, bioactive materials can address challenges that impede repair of large-to-massive rotator cuff tears including personalized grafts, limited mechanical support, and inadequate tissue regeneration. Herein, we developed a facile and rapid methodology that generates visible light-crosslinkable polythiourethane (PHT) pre-polymer resin (∼30 min at room temperature), yielding 3D-printable scaffolds with tendon-like mechanical attributes capable of delivering tenogenic bioactive factors. Ex vivo characterization confirmed successful fabrication, robust human

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbance is commonly reported by patients wearing an abduction brace after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). Although a sling has been proven noninferior to an abduction brace for function and repair integrity, there is no evidence-based medical support for the advantage of the sling in improving sleep quality compared with a brace.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: This study aimed to compare the effects of a sling and an abduction brace on sleep quality and clinical outcomes after ARCR. It was hypothesized that immobilization in a sling would result in better sleep quality whi

Large open chest wall wounds can be difficult to manage due to full-thickness tissue loss with underlying rib fractures and exposed lung parenchyma. Historically, the use of synthetic material has been discouraged in the traumatic setting with the concern that it may be associated with an increased risk of infection. We present 4 patients with large open injuries to the thorax-one from blunt and three from penetrating trauma. We describe our initial management followed by prompt surgical repair using biologic mesh, titanium rib spanning plates, and rotational tissue flaps with Z-plasty of the

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Residual axial and rotational deformities in tibial shaft fracture, after minimally invasive osteosynthesis (MIO) treatment, are widely described in literature. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of evidence about the malunion treatment strategies and results. The aim of our study is to present an innovative technique for tibial shaft malunion: a derotational proximal tibial osteotomy without removing the original plate (Plate-Retaining-Osteotomy: PR-Osteotomy).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present the results of two consecutive patients' treatment, affected by tibial sh
