A 28-year-old woman presented with sudden acute lateral epicondylitis. There was no history of preceding trauma or repetitive use of the arm. Because of the acute onset and signs of acute inflammation, an X-ray was arranged. The X-ray showed a hyperdense calcified elongated globule distal to the lateral epicondyle. A diagnosis of calcific periarthritis (calcium apatite) of the elbow was made. Calcific periarthritis has rarely been reported as a cause of acute elbow pain.

We conducted a comparative analysis of the autopsy findings in a case of Marchiafava-Bignami disease with the X-ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings obtained while the patient was alive. Histologically, massive deposits of hemosiderin were demonstrated in the astrocytes and macrophages located in the walls of the callosal cystic lesion, suggesting that the transient increase in density during the subacute stage observed on X-ray CT is secondary to significant hemorrhage.

We report four elderly patients with cough who were referred with the presumptive diagnosis of bronchial carcinoma based on chest X-ray and the macroscopic view on fibreoptic bronchoscopy, but whose final diagnosis was endobronchial tuberculosis. Chest X-ray showed atypical pulmonary infiltrates in three patients, but was normal in one. Bronchoscopic examination revealed ulcerative and/or stenotic lesions. Endobronchial tuberculosis should be considered in differential diagnosis, especially in the elderly.

A case of closed palmar dislocation of the scaphoid and lunate as a unit is described. This was treated by closed reduction and resulted in a good functional result as assessed at 1-year follow-up. No aseptic necrosis of the lunate or of the scaphoid developed. The only residual abnormality was an asymptomatic x-ray VISI pattern of the lunate. This is attributed to the disruption of the lunotriquetral joint. A functional analysis of the x-ray films with the wrist in radial and ulnar deviation indicated a normal arthrokinematic pattern.

The sagittal diameter of cervical spinal canals provided in radiological and anatomical literature cannot be used for the computertomographical diagnostics. Values measured by CT are lower than widths determined by other methods. Resulting from its high sensitivity computertomography detects even slight mineralisations and ossifications that cannot be seen on conventional X-ray pictures. CT is therefore the most suitable X-ray method for the diagnosis of stenosed cervical spinal canals.

The X-ray picture is of outstanding importance for diagnosis and treatment of acute posttraumatic osteomyelitis. Its diagnostic value surpasses that of other costly methods such as scintigraphy. After just 14 days, a typical pathological change of bone structure can be seen. For best possible treatment it is of utmost importance to diagnose the change as early as possible. If the disease develops without clinical signs, diagnosis by x-ray film is sometimes the only possibility.

Undoped and Mg-doped Pr2MoO6 oxymolybdate polycrystals and single crystals have been prepared by solid-state reactions and flux growth. The patient presented has bone disease, so called "mramor disease". The disease is characterized by insuffiticnty of ostcoclasts which results n persisting of primary spongiosis without normal eroding and bone rebuilding. The discase is diagnosed by X rays where the bone density is increased. The medular space is completly closed by dense bone knitting which, with soft cortical space, seems like bone in bone. This is autosomal recessive disease with serious clinical picture in infants.

Traumatic distal avulsion of triceps brachii is a rare injury, usually due to a fall on the outstre ched elbow, with sudden contraction of the triceps muscle. Examination reveals pain, swelling, and a palpable depression just proximal to the olecranon. Lateral X rays show avulsed osseous material. Surgical therapy was advisable for complete avulsion. In this case, the authors used absorbable sutures for this reinsertion. Immediate surgical repair always achieves good results.

In brief Young athletes with persistent unexplained low-back pain or tight hamstrings should be evaluated for possible spondylolisthesis. Although the physical examination is often unrevealing, hamstring tightness is a common finding in symptomatic patients. Anteroposterior, lateral, and possibly right and left oblique x-rays of the lumbosacral spine will suggest the diagnosis. The degree of vertebral slippage and the presence or absence of symptoms will determine whether conservative therapy or operative intervention is appropriate.

X-rays of 20 finger joints, 10 foot joints and 2 wrists of 50 female patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis of 10-15 years' duration from 1962, 1972, 1982 and 1992 were evaluated blindly for erosions. A highly significant decline was observed in erosions in finger joints. Erosions had also declined in wrists and in foot joints, though less than in fingers. This may indicate improvement in the long-term outcome of rheumatoid arthritis.

In brief A male skateboarder experienced chest wall pain and splinting after striking a curb with the right side of his torso. X-rays revealed a nondisplaced fracture of the right ninth rib. Two days later, however, the patient returned with hematuria, and CT showed a renal laceration. This case illustrates that minor symptoms can accompany serious injury after abdominal trauma. Also, as skateboarding gains popularity, such injuries may become more frequent.

We present an 84-year-old white male patient who, during a 2-year period, developed successively tumor infiltrations of an angiosarcoma in his face. The tumor started at the right lower eyelid, later appeared on the nose, the front, the cheeks and the earlobes. The first clinical impression was that of a rosacea. The tumors where successfully treated by soft X-rays, the total doses ranging from 4,800 to 5,600 cGy.

In case of 380 patients (286 operated), who were followed up, we will prove the usefulness of an already some years ago by us recommended step-program with timely, personal and economically defensible expense for opportune and complete diagnosis of frequent fibular ligamentous injuries in the ankle joint. Measurements of x-rays in stress are demonstrated, also principles of treatment including operative-technical details. Only consistent measures offer good prerequisites for healing with restored function.

80-90% of individuals suffering from aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) are children or adolescents. Primary ABC is a non-neoplastic lesion. Diagnostic assessment and detection of recurrence demands repeated plain x-rays or CT scans. These repeated radiographic examinations expose these young patients to large doses of ionizing radiation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is found to be an effective and reliable noninvasive technique for the diagnosis and follow-up controls of ABC.

56 electric arc welders found in a cross-sectional study to show pulmonary siderosis in full size x-rays were clinically examined. Looking for the discussed functional, relevance of such lung diseases in welders the diagnostic program included spirometry, flow-volume-curves, body-plethysmography, single breath diffusion capacity, pulmonary compliance and ergooxytensiometry. The results are supporting that "lung siderosis" in welders is associated with slight functional deterioration in the type of interstitial lung diseases.

The diagnosis of acute knee injuries should be as precise as possible. A wait-and-see attitude is condemned. A complete diagnosis cannot always be made on the basis of history, physical examination and x-rays. Additional aids, such as stress films, joint aspiration, arthrography, examination under anesthesia and arthroscopy, increase diagnostic accuracy to nearly 100 percent. Only then can the physician properly manage the patient so that long-term disability is minimized.

A 12-year-old boy presented with typical features of short incubation tetanus. Spastic paraparesis with a mid-thoracic sensory level was present from the time of the initial examination. X-rays of the spine and lumbar myelogram were normal. The paraparesis improved rapidly and within a month the patient was free of neurological deficit. The case is possibly a rare example of tetanus involving the central nervous system other than the anterior horn cells.
