[Criteria validation of the Roland Morris questionnaire. A Danish translation of the international scale for the assessment of functional level in patients with low back pain and sciatica].

INTRODUCTION: The main concern of patients with low back pain is the functional limitation which the symptoms cause. Therefore it is important to find a valid tool by means of which their functional level can be assessed. The aim of this study was to validate the first Danish translation of the Roland Morris Questionnaire (RMQ), which evaluates the functional level of activity of patients with low back pain and possible sciatica. The RMQ was compared with the functional scale of a Danish functional and pain level questionnaire, The Low Back Pain Rating Scale (RS), and the functional scale (PF)

A descriptive study of medical and chiropractic patients with chronic low back pain and sciatica: management by physicians (practice activities) and patients (self-management).

BACKGROUND: A practice-based study of ambulatory patients with low back pain noted a long-term outcome advantage for self-referred chiropractic (DC) patients over medical (MD) patients within a subgroup of patients with chronic low back pain and radiating pain below the knee. The frequency of self-care education by physicians in both provider cohorts coupled with current thinking on management of chronic low back pain led to an exploration and description of physicians' noncore practice activities and patients' self-management attitudes and behaviors. METHODS: A longitudinal, practice-based,

The value of magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine to predict low-back pain in asymptomatic subjects : a seven-year follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: In 1989, a group of sixty-seven asymptomatic individuals with no history of back pain underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine. Twenty-one subjects (31%) had an identifiable abnormality of a disc or of the spinal canal. In the current study, we investigated whether the findings on the scans of the lumbar spine that had been made in 1989 predicted the development of low-back pain in these asymptomatic subjects. METHODS: A questionnaire concerning the development and duration of low-back pain over a seven-year period was sent to the sixty-seven asymptomatic individua

A retrospective study to assess the results of CT-directed peri-neural root infiltration in a cohort of 56 patients with low back pain and sciatica.

Fifty-six patients with low back pain and sciatica following radiological investigation were found to have abnormalities at multiple levels, more than one of which could be responsible for the clinical picture or at a single level, which correlated poorly with the clinical findings. Thirty-four patients had a diagnostic peri-neural root infiltration to clarify whether surgery would be appropriate. Evaluation of the technique was by reduction in analgesia. Eighteen patients have had surgery, 14 with a successful, two a moderate and two a poor outcome. Four patients have been denied and two are

Does the menstrual cycle and use of oral contraceptives influence the risk of low back pain? A prospective study among female soccer players.

Female sex hormones have been suggested to affect the risk of low back pain. One reason is the fact that back pain is a very common symptom during pregnancy. It also seems to be a more common problem among female than male athletes, e.g. in soccer. Although there are few scientific data supporting a relationship between female sex hormones, use of oral contraceptives and low back pain, many doctors and physiotherapists advise women with low back pain to avoid oral contraceptives. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether low back pain fluctuated during the menstrual cycle and differed betw

Anthropometry, spinal canal width, and flexibility of the spine and hamstring muscles in 45-55-year-old men with and without low back pain.

One hundred fifty 45-55-year-old men were divided into three groups: those with healthy backs, recurrent low back pain (LBP), and chronic LBP. These groups were studied with respect to anthropometry, spinal canal width, spinal sagittal configuration and flexibility, and the flexibility of the hamstrings musculature with straight leg raising (SLR). There were no differences between the groups with respect to anthropometry. The group with healthy backs had significantly greater lordosis and sagittal flexibility than the other groups. The width of the spinal canal was correlated to body height. T

Correlation of Prolonged Sitting Time and Sitting Posture on Low Back Pain: A Cross-Sectional Study among Medical Students at Universitas Sumatera Utara.

BACKGROUND: Low Back Pain (LBP) is the most common musculoskeletal disorder in the world. Medical students, particularly those who use computers for study purposes, are more vulnerable to LBP due to prolonged sitting times and improper sitting posture during lectures. However, prior research showed that the prevalence of LBP among medical students appeared lower when they were enrolled during online pandemic learning. Hence, this research is performed to determine the correlation between the duration of sitting and sitting posture on the incidence of LBP among medical students in Universitas S

Transforaminal intradiscal steroid injection versus transforaminal epidural steroid injection for chronic discogenic low back pain with active discopathy: a randomized controlled trial protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic discogenic low back pain (DLBP) with active discopathy (Modic type 1 changes) is a specific and debilitating phenotype. Transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TESI) and transforaminal intradiscal steroid injection (TISI) are commonly used treatments, yet their comparative efficacy remains uncertain due to a lack of high-quality, direct comparative studies. OBJECTIVES: To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of TISI versus TESI and to investigate whether the anatomical target of corticosteroid delivery (intradiscal vs. epidural) influences clinical and radiologica
