[A case of cryptogenic organizing pneumonia showing reversed halo sign on computed tomography of the chest].

A 56-year-old female non-smoker complained of general fatigue and pyrexia. Laboratory examination revealed elevation of white blood cells (WBC) 10200/microl and C-reactive protein (CRP) 13.3mg/dl. Chest radiograph showed bilateral patchy and ring-shaped consolidations in both lungs. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple round ground glass opacities fringed with consolidation, namely the "reversed halo sign". Transbronchial lung biopsy specimens showed polypoid granulation tissue in terminal air spaces, consistent with an organizing pneumonia pattern. Clinical findings suggesting col

Quaternary ammonium compound-based ionic liquid with microwave responsiveness for treating deep tissue infections without compromising biocompatibility.

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) hold great promise as alternatives to conventional antibiotics due to their broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and minimal propensity for inducing bacterial drug resistance. However, their inherent cytotoxicity and pro-inflammatory property perpetuate an intractable efficacy-biocompatibility trade-off, severely limiting clinical translation. Herein, aimed to solve this dilemma, we developed a microwave-responsive ionic liquid (IL) via the integration of QACs with an anti-inflammatory anionic organic compound, enabling synergistic bactericidal efficacy th

Promoting the recovery of injured liver with poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) scaffolds loaded with umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Cell-based therapies are major focus of current research for treatment of liver diseases. In this study, mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from human umbilical cord Wharton's jelly (WJ-MSCs). Results confirmed that WJ-MSCs isolated in this study could express the typical MSC-specific markers and be induced to differentiate into adipocytes, osteoblasts, and chondrocytes. They could also be induced to differentiate into hepatocyte-like cells. Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBVHHx) is a new member of polyhydroxyalkanoate family and biodegradable polyester

Comprehensive analysis of POLD2 as a potential biomarker for modulating the immune microenvironment and predicting immunotherapy response in lung adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the leading cause of global cancer mortality. Although significant progress has been made in treatment modalities, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted agents and immunotherapies, clinical outcomes for patients continue to be unfavorable. Key obstacles include disease recurrence, metastasis and the development of treatment resistance. This study aimed to explore molecular mechanisms driving LUAD progression and identify novel prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. METHODS: Gene expression data for LUAD were retrieved from The C

Construction and validation of m6A-related diagnostic model for psoriasis.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is involved in numerous biological processes in both normal and diseased states. Herein, we aimed to explore the potential role of m6A regulators in the diagnosis of psoriasis and predict molecular mechanisms by which m6A regulators impact psoriasis. METHODS: GSE30999 (170 human skin tissue samples) and GSE13355 (180 human skin tissue samples) were downloaded as the training analysis dataset and validation dataset respectively. M6A-related genes were obtained from the literature and their express

Stable closure of acute and chronic wounds and pressure ulcers and control of draining fistulas from osteomyelitis in persons with spinal cord injuries: non-interventional study of MPPT passive immunotherapy delivered via telemedicine in community care.

BACKGROUND: Micropore particle technology (MPPT) is a topical wound treatment. It is a passive immunotherapy, acting via the skin and wound microbiome without the use of antimicrobial action. In a general patient population, it removed wound infections 60% and initiated tissue regeneration 50% quicker than antibiotics and antiseptics. As MPPT supports the immune system, the aim was to confirm that MPPT is also effective in immunocompromised individuals. People with spinal cord injury (SCI) are immunodeficient due to their injury and not an underlying disease and recruit 50% fewer immune cells

Microfracture Augmentation With Direct In Situ Radial Shockwave Stimulation With Appropriate Energy Has Comparable Repair Performance With Tissue Engineering in the Porcine Osteochondral Defect Model.

BACKGROUND: The first-line clinical strategy for small cartilage/osteochondral defects is microfracture (MF). However, its repair efficacy needs improvement. HYPOTHESIS: Appropriate energy radial shockwave stimulation in MF holes would greatly improve repair efficacy in the porcine osteochondral defect model, and it may obtain comparable performance with common tissue engineering techniques. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: Osteochondral defect models (8-mm diameter, 3-mm depth) were established in the weightbearing area of Bama pigs' medial femoral condyles. Antibody-drug conjugates after EGFR-TKI resistance in EGFR-mutant NSCLC: Evidence boundaries, post-progression reassessment, and therapeutic sequencing.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are emerging therapeutic options for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after the development of resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs). However, the founding EGFR alteration alone does not guide ADC selection. At progression, actionable resistance mechanisms, altered antigen expression, central nervous system (CNS) involvement, spatial heterogeneity, and histological transformation may shift treatment priorities. This narrative review links agent-specific evidence boundaries to an eight-domain as

Significant Predictors of Azithromycin in Population Pharmacokinetic Analysis: A Systematic Review.

Azithromycin is widely used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria and is the first-line treatment for mycoplasma pneumonia in pediatric patients. However, in clinical practice, large between-patient variability has been observed. Several population pharmacokinetic studies have been conducted to identify covariates and guide individualized therapy. This study evaluated published population pharmacokinetic studies and explored the significant covariates. The PubMed, Embase, and Web of science databases were systematically searched from their inception to 30 May 2024. Information on

Somatic mutations of MLL4/COMPASS induce cytoplasmic localization providing molecular insight into cancer prognosis and treatment.

Cancer genome sequencing consortiums have recently catalogued an abundance of somatic mutations, across a wide range of human cancers, in the chromatin-modifying enzymes that regulate gene expression. Defining the molecular mechanisms underlying the potentially oncogenic functions of these epigenetic mutations could serve as the basis for precision medicine approaches to cancer therapy. MLL4 encoded by the KMT2D gene highly mutated in a large number of human cancers, is a key histone lysine monomethyltransferase within the Complex of Proteins Associated with Set1 (COMPASS) family that regulate

Canadian Cardiovascular Society/Canadian Heart Failure Society Joint Position Statement on the Evaluation and Management of Patients With Cardiac Amyloidosis.

Cardiac amyloidosis is an under-recognized and potentially fatal cause of heart failure and other cardiovascular manifestations. It is caused by deposition of misfolded precursor proteins as fibrillary amyloid deposits in cardiac tissues. The two primary subtypes of systemic amyloidosis causing cardiac involvement are immunoglobulin light chain (AL), a plasma cell dyscrasia, and transthyretin (ATTR), itself subdivided into a hereditary subtype caused by a gene mutation of the ATTR protein, and an age-related wild type, which occurs in the absence of a gene mutation. Clinical recognition requir

Common Host Responses in Murine Aerosol Models of Infection Caused by Highly Virulent Gram-Negative Bacteria from the Genera Burkholderia, Francisella and Yersinia.

Highly virulent bacterial pathogens cause acute infections which are exceptionally difficult to treat with conventional antibiotic therapies alone. Understanding the chain of events that are triggered during an infection of a host has the potential to lead to new therapeutic strategies. For the first time, the transcriptomic responses within the lungs of Balb/C mice have been compared during an acute infection with the intracellular pathogens Burkholderia pseudomallei, Francisella tularensis and Yersinia pestis. Temporal changes were determined using RNAseq and a bioinformatics pipeline; expre

Vitamin D3 mediates amelioration of ulcerative colitis via the TRPV1-MAPK signaling pathway.

INTRODUCTION: Ulcerative colitis (UC), known as a complex inflammatory bowel disease, whose pathogenesis has not been fully clarified. The Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), along with its downstream Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase (MAPK) pathway, are vital in regulating inflammation. However, it remains unclear whether vitamin D3 (VD3) exerts a protective effect by regulating this signaling pathway. METHODS: This study investigated the TRPV1-MAPK pathway in colon tissues from UC patients and in 3% Dextran Sulfate Sodium (DSS)-induced rodents. In vivo experiments were conducte
