Puberty regulation in chub mackerel Scomber japonicus, an important aquaculture fish species, via reproductive endocrine mechanism.

The vertebrate reproductive system is controlled by the brain-pituitary-gonadal reproductive endocrine axis (BPG axis). Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secreted from the hypothalamus regulates the secretion of two gonadotropic hormones (GTHs), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), in the pituitary gland. Steroid hormones, such as androgens and estrogens, secreted in response to GTH stimulation, regulate the development of male and female gametes. Recently, various neuropeptides have been identified in mammals as factors that regulate the BPG axis from the upstr

Transcriptome alterations underlying metabolic dysfunction and liver disease in myotonic dystrophy type 1.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is caused by expanded CTG repeats in the DMPK 3'-untranslated region, affecting multiple organs, including the skeletal muscles, eyes, heart, central nervous system, and endocrine system. A major pathogenic event in DM1 is the sequestration of muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins by CUG repeat-containing RNAs transcribed from expanded repeats. Among the various symptoms of DM1, lipid abnormalities and liver dysfunction are frequent but remain understudied. Although abnormal splicing of insulin receptor RNA is implicated, it cannot fully explain these abnormalities.

Navigating Complexity in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) affects up to 1% of the US population, predominantly women, and is characterized by a complex, elusive etiology and heterogeneous phenotypes. This review delves into the intricate physiology and etiology of POTS, decoding the roles of the sinoatrial node, the autonomic nervous system, fluid dynamics, and the interplay between the immune and endocrine systems. It further examines key contributing factors such as dysautonomia, thoracic hypovolemia, autonomic neuropathies, sympathetic denervation, autoimmune responses, and associations with conditi

Selective anti-CXCR2 receptor blockade by AZD5069 inhibits CXCL8-mediated pro-tumorigenic activity in human thyroid cancer cells in vitro.

BACKGROUND: Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. Current therapies are successful, however some patients progress to therapeutically refractive disease. The immunotherapeutic potential of the CXCL8-chemokine/CXCR2-chemokine-receptor system is currently being explored in numerous human cancers. This study aimed to evaluate if the targeting of CXCR2 by its selective antagonist, AZD5069, could modulate CXCL8-mediated pro-tumorigenic effects in thyroid-cancer (TC) cells in vitro. METHODS: Normal human primary thyroid cells (NHT) and TC cell lines TPC-1 (RET/PTC), BCPAP, 8505C a

Structural effect of the H992D/H418D mutation of angiotensin-converting enzyme in the Indian population: implications for health and disease.

The Non synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) of the renin-angiotensin-system (RAS) pathway, unique to the Indian population were investigated in view of its importance as an endocrine system. nsSNPs of the RAS pathway genes were mined from the IndiGenome database. Damaging nsSNPs were predicted using SIFT, PredictSNP, SNP and GO, Snap2 and Protein Variation Effect Analyzer. Loss of function was predicted based on protein stability change using I mutant, PremPS and CONSURF. The structural impact of the nsSNPs was predicted using HOPE and Missense3d followed by modeling, refinement, and energy minimization.

Glia Signaling and Brain Microenvironment in Migraine.

Migraine is a complicated neurological disorder affecting 6% of men and 18% of women worldwide. Various mechanisms, including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, altered mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter disturbances, cortical hyperexcitability, genetic factors, and endocrine system problems, are responsible for migraine. However, these mechanisms have not completely delineated the pathophysiology behind migraine, and they should be further studied. The brain microenvironment comprises neurons, glial cells, and vascular structures with complex interactions. Disruption of the brain micr

How advantageous is it to use computed tomography image-based artificial intelligence modelling in the differential diagnosis of chronic otitis media with and without cholesteatoma?

Anorexia nervosa is a disease involving eating disorders. It mainly affects young people, especially teenage women. The disease is often latent and occurs in many sub-clinical and partial forms. Approximately from 0.3% to 1% of the population suffers from anorexia. It has been shown that patients with anorexia develop neurotransmitter-related disorders, leading to uncontrolled changes in the immune and endocrine systems. Interactions between cytokines, neuropeptides, and neurotransmitters play an important role in disease development. Significant malnutrition induces disorders and alterations

Metabolic complications in myotonic dystrophy type 1: A cross-sectional survey using the National Registry of Japan.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is the most common form of muscular dystrophy in adults, affecting multiple organs, including the eyes, heart, endocrine system, and central nervous system. The broad spectrum of DM1 symptoms has been attributed to the aberrant pre-mRNA splicing of various genes due to an abnormal expansion of the CTG repeat in the 3' untranslated region of the DMPK gene. The current challenge in the clinical care of DM1 is the lack of well-established protocols for the management of each organ disorder or symptom. Moreover, the current status of clinical management has not been

[Stress hip fractures in men in military training].

INTRODUCTION: Stress fractures are common injuries in the military population, they begin with the imposition of repetitive and excessive effort on the bone. This leads to the acceleration of bone remodeling and production of microfractures. The incidence, during their basic combat training, is 0.8 to 5.1% for men compared to 1.1 to 18% among women. We present a series of hip stress fractures in young male military men with progressive training of 8 hours a day over a period of 14 weeks. RESULTS: Mean age 19.72 years, 4 transcervical and 7 basicervical fractures, 6 displaced and 5 no, 54.5 %
