How we do it in Gdansk - practical approach to fertility preservation in pediatric female cancer patients.

The high survival rate of pediatric cancer patients has prompted a growing research focus on the long-term sequelae of cancer treatment. Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and infertility, which are the consequences of the gonadotoxic effects of anticancer therapy, have a profound impact on the quality of life of the affected individuals. A rapidly evolving field of oncofertility has emerged in an attempt to establish a structured approach to fertility preservation in oncologic patients. This study presents the practical aspects of fertility preservation strategies, in accordance with the l

MicroRNAs Regulating Oxidative Stress in Human Fertility: A Narrative Review of Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Potential.

Human infertility represents a multifaceted condition, with oxidative stress (OS) and microRNAs (miRNAs) emerging as key contributors to its pathophysiology. This comprehensive review explores the complex interplay between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and miRNAs in male and female reproductive dysfunctions. ROS overproduction damages DNA, lipids, and proteins, impairing sperm quality and oocyte maturation. In males, OS is a leading cause of infertility, especially in conditions like varicocele, where key miRNAs such as miR-21, miR-34a, and miR-155 are dysregulated. In females, oxidative imbal

Fertility Treatment, Female-Factor Infertility, and Autism Spectrum Disorder: Study to Explore Early Development.

BACKGROUND: Prior research on fertility treatments and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) suggests minimal association but confounding by indication limits inference. To make clinically relevant conclusions, studies should include populations who receive treatment specifically for female-factor infertility. OBJECTIVES: We investigated the association between ovulation-inducing medications and assisted reproductive technology (ART) and ASD. We conducted analyses in a subsample reporting female-factor infertility to reduce confounding by indication. METHODS: We used data from the Study to Explore

Testis-specific serine/threonine kinase dTSSK2 regulates sperm motility and male fertility in Drosophila.

Serine/threonine kinases of the TSSK (Testis-Specific Serine/Threonine Kinase) family play crucial roles in spermatogenesis and male fertility across species, but the underlying regulatory mechanism remains incompletely understood. In this study, we identified and characterized a novel TSSK homolog in Drosophila, named dTSSK2 (CG9222), which functions as the ortholog of human TSSK4. dTSSK2 is specifically expressed in the testis and localizes to individualization complexes during spermiogenesis. Disruption of dTSSK2 severely compromises sperm motility, leading to failed sperm transit into the

Romance in peril: A common pesticide impairs mating behaviours and male fertility of solitary bees (Osmiabicornis).

Mating behaviour and fertility are strong selective forces, driving the reproductive trends of animals. Mating disorders may therefore contribute to the recent decline in insect and pollinators health worldwide. While the impact of pesticides on pollinators is widely considered as a driving factor for reducing pollinators health, their effect on mating behaviour and male fertility remains widely overlooked. Here, we assessed the effects of field-realistic exposure to a common pesticide used as a neonicotinoid substitute worldwide, sulfoxaflor, on the behaviour and male physiology of the solita

From stress signals to fertility challenges: the role of damage-associated molecular patterns in male reproduction.

Male infertility is influenced by genetic abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, lifestyle factors, and environmental exposures. Recently, Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs) have emerged as key players in male reproductive health, particularly in regulating inflammatory responses and tissue damage. This review highlights the role of critical DAMPs, such as HMGB1, HSPs, ATP, eCIRP, histones, and cfDNA, in processes like spermatogenesis, sperm maturation, and fertilization. Released through mechanisms like necrosis, apoptosis, pyroptosis, and exosomes, DAMPs significantly influence immune

Microbial composition and bioremediation in frass fertilizers from insect-based agri-food waste valorization.

Insect frass fertilizer is emerging as a sustainable and novel input for improving soil health and crop production; however, research attention on its safety and microbial properties remains limited. Here, we evaluated the levels of heavy metals, pathogens, diversity, abundance, composition and functional roles of bacteria and fungi in frass fertilizer produced by eight edible insect species. Our results revealed the absence of Salmonella spp. In the frass fertilizers produced by all insect species, while the levels of other pathogens and heavy metals were within permissible limits for organic

SPG360° and SpermoMAP: a functional and stratified interpretation model for human semen analysis in frontline fertility care.

BACKGROUND: Semen analysis is a fundamental component of male reproductive evaluation; however, its interpretation remains inconsistent and often challenging for non-specialist practitioners. The 6th Edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) Laboratory Manual replaced rigid thresholds with decision-limit-based reasoning, increasing interpretive flexibility but also complexity, which may delay timely referral and appropriate counseling. AIM: To develop and present a structured and clinically applicable framework for semen analysis interpretation that enhances diagnostic clarity and suppor

Fertilizer and fungicide reduce herbicide efficacy and enhance growth of invasive common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare).

Common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare; Asteraceae) is a widespread invasive species in North America that threatens biodiversity and agricultural productivity by displacing resident vegetation. Combined with being unpalatable, it can be toxic and thus poses significant challenges for the livestock industry. Current tansy control strategies are largely chemical and rely on a suite of synthetic auxin herbicides. The need for reapplication may lead to resistance development in addition to significant biodiversity losses. Recent work suggests that invasive Asteraceae may rely on symbiotic arbuscular myc

Uterine transposition for fertility preservation in extra-skeletal ewing sarcoma: the first French case report.

We present the first French case of uterine transposition for fertility preservation in a 25-year-old nulligravida patient with rectovaginal extra-skeletal Ewing sarcoma. After receiving induction chemotherapy, the uterus was transposed to the upper abdomen via laparotomy. During the same procedure, a posterior pelvectomy was performed to achieve wide surgical margins for tumor removal. To mitigate digestive toxicity from subsequent pelvic radiotherapy, a breast expansion prosthesis was placed. The patient experienced regular menstruation postoperatively, indicating preserved uterine function.

Fertility and pregnancy outcomes after CAR T-cell therapy: insights from a systematic review.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy represents an emerging option for refractory autoimmune diseases, but long-term effects are unknown. Based on its remarkable effects in achieving drug-free remission in highly selected patients, a possible role in the early disease course is also discussed. With the increasing use of this treatment in patients of reproductive age, understanding its impact on fertility and pregnancy is crucial to provide counselling. Evidence from oncology provides valuable insights for rheumatology. We found 3 publications reporting 10 pregnancies after CAR T-cell

Distinct requirements for the C. elegans Delta ligand APX-1 in embryonic viability and adult fertility.

Requirements for the Caenorhabditis elegans Notch ligand APX-1 have been described, but the molecular lesions in mutant alleles remain unknown. Here we report the sequence changes in 3 previously isolated nonconditional alleles and 2 newly isolated alleles, apx-1(or545ts) and a null allele apx-1(or2015). All alleles resulted in highly penetrant embryonic lethality, but only null mutations greatly reduced brood sizes. This reproductive phenotype was likely due to abnormal ovulation rupturing oocytes and, together with vulva defects, resulting in debris accumulation that prevented embryo passage
