Decreased physical activity with subjective pleasure is associated with avoidance behaviors.

The main hypothesis for the relation between physical activity and mental health is that autonomous motivation, such as subjective pleasure for the activity, plays an important role. However, no report has described empirical research designed to examine the role of subjective pleasure in the relation between objectively measured physical activity and psychological indexes. We used accelerometers to collect data indicating participants' physical activity intensity during a week. Participants recorded their subjective pleasure of activity per hour. In 69% of them, the individual correlation coe

Prenatal exposure to gestational diabetes is associated with anxiety and physical inactivity in children during COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is associated with adverse child mental health outcomes and reduced physical activity. Moreover, prenatal exposure to gestational diabetes (GDM) is associated with increased risk for adverse psychological outcomes in children. OBJECTIVES: Assess prenatal exposure to GDM on anxiety levels and physical activity in children during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Sixty-five children age 9 to 15 reported their physical activity and anxiety levels using the 24-hours physical activity recall and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children via p

Assessing the quality of life among African medical and health science students using the WHOQOL-BREF tool.

BACKGROUND: The quality of life (QoL) among health professional students is available in the literature, yet there is a paucity of information concerning QoL among African students. The study aimed to measure the QoL with the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) tool among African medical and health science students. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 349 African medical and health science students from various disciplines at the International African University in May 2024. This study aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of a health promotion intervention seeking to improve physical health and reduce substance use in people with psychosis. METHODS: Participants with a psychotic disorder, aged 18-65 years old and registered on an enhanced care approach programme or equivalent were recruited from community mental health teams in six mental health trusts in England. Multifactorial Inspiratory Muscle Training in Patients With Diabetic Polyneuropathy: A Qualitative Study.

The aim of this descriptive qualitative study was to explore the patient's perspective of multifactorial home-based inspiratory muscle training (IMT) combined with group-based Otago Exercise Program (OEP) to bridge the gap of the experiences and perceptions of diabetes polyneuropathy patients regarding home-based multifactorial IMT intervention. Individual semistructured interviews were conducted with 12 patients using thematic analysis. The patients' interviews were transcribed verbatim in Urdu, translated into English, and then coded into relevant themes. Three key themes emerged, including

Factors Associated with Non-Fatal Strangulation Victimization in Intimate Relationships: A Meta-Analysis.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a public health crisis across the globe, and one particular act of IPV, non-fatal strangulation, warrants serious attention. Non-fatal strangulation is a risk factor for intimate partner homicide (IPH) and can create long-term negative mental and physical health consequences. In this meta-analysis, we sought to examine factors associated with non-fatal strangulation victimization among women to help inform education and assessment efforts. Using database searches and Boolean search terms, a total of 16 studies met the inclusion criteria. A total of 16 factors

Treatment of obesity in 2015.

Obesity is a major health priority in the United States, as well as globally. It is associated with multiple comorbidities and reduced life expectancy. Effective management of obesity involves producing an intervention plan tailored to the individual patient. Potential contributory factors to weight gain, including dietary habits, physical inactivity, associated medical conditions, and medications, should be identified and addressed. Lifestyle interventions comprising diet modification, physical activity, and behavior therapy are foundational to the management of obesity. Caloric restriction i

Application of tRNS to improve multiple sclerosis fatigue: a pilot, single-blind, sham-controlled study.

We evaluated the effects of transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS) on fatigue in 17 subjects with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis with low physical disability. Two different patient groups underwent real or sham stimulation for 10 days, targeting the primary motor cortex of the dominant side or contralateral to the most compromised limb. In the 'real group', beneficial effects were observed using the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (p = 0.04; physical subscale: p = 0.03), the subscales 'change in health' (p = 0.006) and 'role limitations due to physical problems' (p = 0.001) of the

Self-perceptions of preschool children with spina bifida.

The purpose of this study was to compare self-perceptions of 21 preschoolers with spina bifida with those of 21 physically able preschoolers. Each child was asked to draw a self-portrait, fill in the most important body parts on an outline of a child, complete the Pictorial Scale of Perceived Competence and Social Acceptance for Young Children, and rate feelings about self, family, peers, and health care professionals. The spina bifida group drew significantly fewer legs, feet, and trunks than physically able children. The preschoolers with spina bifida rated themselves as significantly differ
