The influence of the -94 Ins/Del ATTG polymorphism of NFkB on the anti-CCP antibody levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by an inflammatory process that affects mainly synovial tissue in joints, and by the production of cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP) antibodies. In the inflammatory process the regulation of the nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB) transcription factor activation is a key point in the production of inflammatory cytokines. On the other hand, polymorphisms in several genes could contribute to the promotion of the inflammatory process observed in RA, and the association of the rs28362491 polymorphism in the NFkB gene with RA has bee

Utilising Electronic PROMs to Measure a Change in Health Following Elective Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: A Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: The collection of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) has many benefits for clinical practice. However, there are many barriers that prevent them from becoming a part of routine clinical care. The aim of this feasibility study was to pilot the use of a digital platform to facilitate the routine collection of pre- and post-operative electronic PROMs (ePROMs) in participants undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy and to validate the use of existing patient-reported outcomes for our population. METHODS: Participants scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy

[Detection of disorders of the chemical senses-assessment of state of health by those affected].

Although hundreds of thousands of people seek medical help every year because of smell and taste disorders, the burden on patients is often underestimated by health care professionals. Numerous studies have demonstrated the impact of disorders of the chemical senses on quality of life. In clinical practice, the Questionnaire of Olfactory Disorders (QOD) has proven to be a good measure of the impact of olfactory loss on everyday life. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) should therefore be used more frequently for better recording and assessing the needs of patients. In addition to educat

The Evaluation of SEPAS National Project Based on Electronic Health Record System (EHRS) Coordinates in Iran.

BACKGROUND: Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are secure private lifetime records that can be shared by using interoperability standards between different organizations and units. These records are created by the productive system that is called EHR system. Implementing EHR systems has a number of advantages such as facilitating access to medical records, supporting patient care, and improving the quality of care and health care decisions. The project of electronic health record system in Iran, which is the goal of this study, is called SEPAS. With respect to the importance of EHR and EHR syste

Needs assessment survey to justify establishing a reproductive health clinic at a comprehensive cancer center.

INTRODUCTION: Reproductive health problems, including sexual dysfunction and impaired fertility, are distressing and persistent after cancer treatment. However, recent reports suggest that reproductive health remains neglected in oncology settings. AIMS: We conducted a survey to ascertain the prevalence of reproductive health problems in men and women treated in a comprehensive cancer center, and to estimate potential usage of clinical services to preserve fertility or to treat postcancer infertility and sexual dysfunction. METHODS: We mailed 800 questionnaires to men and women treated for c

Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder in Adults.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder (PD) are common mental health conditions in adults that are often seen in primary care. Although there is insufficient evidence to support universal screening for PD and GAD, evaluation should be considered in patients who express recurrent, pervasive worry or present with somatic symptoms not attributed to underlying medical conditions. The GAD-7 and Patient Health Questionnaire for PD are validated screening tools that can aid in diagnosis and assessment. Anxiety disorders often present with substance use disorders, which should be treate

Conversational Agents for Chronic Disease Self-Management: A Systematic Review.

We conducted a systematic literature review to assess how conversational agents have been used to facilitate chronic disease self-management. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework was used. Literature was searched across five databases, and we included full-text articles that contained primary research findings for text-based conversational agents focused on self-management for chronic diseases in adults. 1,606 studies were identified, and 12 met inclusion criteria. Outcomes were largely focused on usability of conversational agents, and part

Burnout syndrome in Romanian medical residents in time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Burnout is a state of physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress. Burnout during residency training has gained significant attention secondary to concerns regarding job performance and patient care. The new COVID-19 pandemic has raised public health problems around the world and required a reorganization of health services. In this context, burnout syndrome and physical exhaustion have become even more pronounced. Resident doctors, and especially those in certain specialties, seem even more exposed due to the higher workload, prolonged exposure and first contact with patients. Th
