Head-to-head comparison of GA-68 PSMA PET/CT and multiparametric MRI findings with postoperative results in preoperative locoregional staging and localization of prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND: Accurate staging of prostate cancer (PCa) is essential for determining the appropriate treatment and predicting outcomes. This study is comparing the effectiveness of Gallium-68 Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT) and multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) in preoperative locoregional staging and localizing PCa. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 78 patients who underwent both mpMRI and Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT scans before surgery. The imaging was reviewed by radiologists and nuclear medicine specialists and compar

[18F]-PSMA-1007-PET for evaluation of kidney function.

PURPOSE: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is present in the proximal tubule cells of the kidneys. This results in high renal tracer uptake in PSMA-PET, which may contain useful information on renal function. As part of the evaluation for [177Lu]-PSMA therapies, patients undergo PSMA-PET and additional [99mTc]-mercapto-acetyltriglycine (MAG3) scintigraphy to assess renal function. Aim of this study was to evaluate estimation of renal function with [18F]-PSMA-1007-PET/CT (PSMA-PET) by comparison to timely MAG3-scintigraphies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively investigated 73 pr

Expression of glutamate carboxypeptidase II in the glial tumor recurrence evaluated in vivo using radionuclide imaging.

Glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCP), also known as prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has been found to be expressed in glioma vasculature in in-vitro studies. GCP expression can be traced with the use of [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT used routinely for prostate cancer imaging. The aim of this paper was to analyze GCP expression in the recurrent glial tumors in vivo. 34 patients (pts.) aged 44.5 ± 10.3 years with suspicion of recurrence of histologically confirmed glioma grade III (6 pts.) and grade IV (28 pts.) were included in the study. All patients underwent contrast-enhanced MR and [68Ga

Salvage focal cryosurgery may delay use of androgen deprivation therapy in cryotherapy and radiation recurrent prostate cancer patients.

INTRODUCTION: Salvage treatment options for recurrent unilateral prostate cancer (PCa) after primary radiation are limited and associated with severe complications and poor quality of life measures. Salvage focal cryotherapy (SFC) has shown success in biochemical recurrence (BCR) free survival. We aim to determine if SFC can delay use of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in recurrent PCa with low morbidity. METHODS: A retrospective review of patients who underwent SFC at our institution from 2007 to 2015 was performed. Patients with <2 follow-up prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values, metast

Focal vs extended ablation in localized prostate cancer with irreversible electroporation; a multi-center randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Current surgical and ablative treatment options for prostate cancer (PCa) may result in a high incidence of (temporary) incontinence, erectile dysfunction and/or bowel damage. These side effects are due to procedure related effects on adjacent structures including blood vessels, bowel, urethra and/or neurovascular bundle. Ablation with irreversible electroporation (IRE) has shown to be effective and safe in destroying PCa cells and also has the potential advantage of sparing surrounding tissue and vital structures, resulting in less impaired functional outcomes and maintaining men'

Abiraterone acetate in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer: a retrospective review of the Princess Margaret experience of (I) low dose abiraterone and (II) prior ketoconazole.

INTRODUCTION: Abiraterone (AA) is a CYP17 inhibitor that prolongs survival in men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Data suggest similar pharmacokinetics of 250-500 mg of AA with high-fat meals ('low-dose') and 1000 mg in the fasting state ('full-dose'). Ketoconazole (KT) is a less potent CYP17 inhibitor previously widely used in mCRPC. OBJECTIVE: To study outcomes of men with mCRPC treated with low-dose AA and/or with prior exposure to KT. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Retrospective chart review of all men treated with AA at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre between No

Stepwise description and outcomes of bladder neck sparing during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.

PURPOSE: While bladder neck sparing may improve post-prostatectomy urinary continence, there is concern that it may lead to more positive surgical margins and compromise cancer control. We compared the continence and cancer control outcomes of bladder neck sparing vs nonsparing techniques during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data were prospectively collected on 1,067 robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies done from September 2005 through October 2011. We compared the procedures according to bladder neck sparing (791) and nonsparing (276
