Nuancing psychological research with complexity: The case of embodied cognition and ecological dynamics.

Psychological science is often hampered by the fact that mind and behavior are exceedingly complex subjects. There are many moving parts, and many interactions between these, which elicits a categorical shift in the nature of its variables. This demands a strong theoretic and meta-theoretic foundation to order and interpret results. Yet, especially the meta-theoretic foundation has been unduly neglected. To remediate this, the current paper invites to scrutinize the assumptions about the nature of the world implicit in theories, called metaphysics. We position complexity science as delivering

Association between spexin and type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence suggests that spexin is implicated in cellular energy balance, glucose and lipid metabolism, appetite suppression, and water-electrolyte regulation, and is closely associated with metabolic conditions including obesity, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia. However, due to limitations in sample size, ethnic diversity among study populations, and variability in clinical study designs, existing findings on the association between spexin and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remain inconsistent. AIM: This meta-analysis aimed to statistically evaluate the level of spe

Reducing bias and enhancing equity in AI-enabled precision nutrition: addressing measurement error across wearables, multiomics, and dietary data.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can offer individualized dietary guidance based on multimodal data collected from various sources, including wearable sensors, high-dimensional multiomics and biomarker analyses, behavioral tracking, and self-reported dietary intake, enabling the emergence of precision nutrition. However, the predictive power and fairness of these models rely on the quality of the data inputs, and measurement errors in any of these underlying data streams can introduce systematic bias, degrade model performance, and disproportionately affect underserved populations. In this review,

Translating a Nurse-Led Coping-Sleep-Adherence Bundle Into Routine Cardiovascular Care: A Theory-Informed Implementation Blueprint.

BACKGROUND: Adults with cardiovascular disease frequently experience anxiety, sleep disturbance, and challenges with long-term treatment adherence. These factors are associated with poorer quality of life, reduced engagement in guideline-directed therapy, and increased healthcare utilization. Although nurses are well-positioned to address these needs, nurse-led behavioral interventions often encounter barriers to sustained adoption in routine clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to describe a theory-informed implementation blueprint for integrating a nurse-led coping-sleep-ad

Anionic clay-based nanozymes: Interfacial regulation, structural design and functional applications.

Anionic clays, also known as layered double hydroxides (LDHs) or hydrotalcites, have recently emerged as a versatile class of ion-intercalated two-dimensional colloidal anionic clay materials capable of mimicking enzymatic functions. Their tunable composition, high surface charge density and advantageous interfacial features enable properly controlled redox and biocatalytic activities, positioning them as promising candidates for the design of enzyme mimicking materials, so-called nanozymes. This review integrates the structural chemistry of LDHs with their biocatalytic performance. Two main c

Disorder-Free Solitonlike Energy Transport in Moiré-Engineered Phononic Flat Bands.

The pursuit of low-loss, directional energy transport and heat localization is critical in frontier fields such as hybrid quantum computing, thermophysics, and materials science. Localized phonon modes, with spatially confined vibrational energy and suppressed diffusive scattering, provide promising routes toward this goal. However, conventional approaches to phonon localization necessitate material disorder or nonlinear interactions, limiting their potential for controllable, on-demand energy routing and concentration in pristine, scalable materials. In this Letter, we demonstrate disorder-fr

Migrasome-mediated clearance of excess PLK4 defines a targetable vulnerability.

BACKGROUND: Centrosome amplification caused by Polo-like kinase 4 (PLK4) overexpression promotes tumour initiation, yet sustained PLK4 accumulation is detrimental to cancer cell viability. While proteasomal degradation limits PLK4 levels, whether alternative clearance mechanisms exist remains unknown. METHODS: We established inducible PLK4-overexpressing breast cancer cells and employed live-cell imaging, vesicular marker profiling, immunoprecipitation-mass spectrometry, and in vivo patient-derived xenograft models to investigate how cancer cells eliminate excess PLK4. FINDINGS: In this stud

Predictive models for dysphagia in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Dysphagia is a common condition among older adults, closely linked to aging and neurodegenerative diseases. It can lead to malnutrition, frailty, and aspiration pneumonia, thereby impairing quality of life and clinical outcomes. Although various interventions may improve swallowing function, early identification of high-risk individuals remains challenging. Existing predictive models show inconsistent performance and lack systematic evaluation. This study aimed to systematically review and assess predictive models for dysphagia risk in older adults. METHODS: A comprehensive sear

Toward Next-Generation Teratology: Understanding Developmental Vulnerability Through Evolutionary and Comparative Genomics.

Teratology, the study of congenital anomalies, has developed from a descriptive discipline into a mechanistic science focused on the proximate causes of developmental defects, meaning how such anomalies arise during development. However, a comprehensive understanding requires not only this mechanistic insight but also an evolutionary perspective on why developmental systems are susceptible to disruption, often following recurring yet diverse patterns. To better grasp this susceptibility, it is important to consider evolutionary contexts, including concepts such as evolutionary trade-offs, envi

Mapping Flood Co-Adaptation Strategies in a Vulnerable River Basin: Engaging Youth in Collaborative Decision-Making.

Climate change-induced flooding presents severe challenges to vulnerable catchments like the Tiram River Basin (TRB) in Johor, Malaysia, where historical data indicates an intensifying shift toward moderate and heavy rainfall events. This study evaluates the integration of high school students into flood co-adaptation mapping using structured, group-based co-creation activities. The intervention employed pre- and post-questionnaires, resilience presentations, and participatory mapping exercises to evaluate risk-zone identification and the prioritization of multi-sectoral adaptation strategies.
