Acceptability and Feasibility of a Mobile Phone Application to Support HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Among Women with Opioid Use Disorder.

Despite evidence supporting HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) effectiveness, very few women with opioid use disorder (OUD) take PrEP. Interventions that improve medication assisted treatment (MAT) uptake and adherence may also be beneficial for PrEP. The reSET-O mobile phone app is a component of the evidence-based Therapeutic Education System, which improves retention and abstinence for people with OUD. To better understand use of this mobile health tool as a support for PrEP among women with OUD, pre-implementation contextual inquiry is needed. Therefore, we set out to assess target user c

Access to cancer preventive care and program considerations for people experiencing homelessness across four European countries: an exploratory qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: People experiencing homelessness (PEH) have a higher prevalence of adverse health outcomes and premature mortality compared to the non-homeless population. These include a higher burden of cancer and cancer-specific morbidity and mortality-outcomes that may be a consequence of significant barriers to accessing primary and secondary prevention and community health services. This study aimed to better comprehend the health needs and barriers to accessing preventive cancer care for PEH across four European countries as well as necessary considerations for developing interventions arou

Therapist perceptions of experiential training for exposure therapy.

BACKGROUND: Despite evidence for its efficacy, exposure therapy for anxiety is rarely used in routine care settings. Efforts to address one major barrier to its use - therapists' negative beliefs about exposure - have included therapist-level implementation strategies, such as training and consultation. Experiential training, in which therapists themselves undergo exposures, has recently demonstrated feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effectiveness for increasing exposure use. AIMS: This study aimed to assess: (1) therapists' perceptions of experiential training and (2) barriers and f

Key stakeholders' perspectives on providing oral pre-exposure prophylaxis as HIV-prevention standard of care in clinical trials in South Africa.

Introduction: HIV-prevention and endpoint-driven clinical trials enrol individuals at substantial risk of HIV. Recently, these trials have provided oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as HIV-prevention standard of care; however, data on PrEP uptake and use during the trial and post-trial access are lacking. Methods: We conducted once-off, telephonic, in-depth interviews from August 2020 to March 2021, with 15 key stakeholders (including site directors/leaders, principal investigators and clinicians), purposively recruited from research sites across South Africa that are known to conduct HIV-pr

iVY: protocol for a randomised clinical trial to test the effect of a technology-based intervention to improve virological suppression among young adults with HIV in the USA.

INTRODUCTION: Young adults with HIV (YWH) experience worse clinical outcomes than adults and have high rates of substance use (SU) and mental illness that impact their engagement in care and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). The intervention for Virologic Suppression in Youth (iVY) aims to address treatment engagement/adherence, mental health (MH) and SU in a tailored manner using a differentiated care approach that is youth friendly. Findings will provide information about the impact of iVY on HIV virological suppression, MH and SU among YWH who are disproportionately impacted by HIV

Patchouli alcohol attenuates 5-fluorouracil-induced intestinal mucositis via TLR2/MyD88/NF-kB pathway and regulation of microbiota.

Intestinal mucositis causes great suffering to cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Owing to the uncertain side effects of anticancer drugs to attenuate patients' intestinal mucositis, many studies focused on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Patchouli alcohol (PA) is an active compound extracted from Pogostemon cablin, and has potent gastrointestinal protective effect. However, whether PA has an effect on intestinal mucositis is still unknown. Therefore, we established a rat model of intestinal mucositis via intraperitoneal injection of 5-fluorouracil, and intragastric

Barriers to access to education for young people with epilepsy in Northern Tanzania: A qualitative interview and focus group study involving teachers, parents and young people with epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE: Educational outcomes for young people with epilepsy (YPE) in Hai District, Tanzania, are poor, as is commonly observed elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa. The reasons for this finding are not well understood, though stigma arising from supernatural concepts of epilepsy is frequently cited as a barrier to YPE accessing education. In this study, we aimed to explore the reasons why many YPE in Tanzania experience poor access to education, and elicit ways in which education could be improved for YPE according to teachers, parents and YPE. METHODS: Ten focus group discussions with teachers
