Medical Microwave Imaging Using Physics-Guided Deep Learning-Part 2: The Inverse Solver.

Deep learning has the potential to address the bottleneck of conventional medical microwave tomography, which is ill-posed and has a high computation cost. However, current physics-guided deep learning methods may fail to capture the imaged object's salient regions, resulting in misdiagnosis. A deep neural network inspired by the distorted Born iterative method (DBIM) is proposed to address this challenge. This method, which avoids using Green's function, provides a theoretical explanation of why current deep learning methods guided by iterative physics algorithms fail in detecting abnormal ti

MOLT: multi-object and lineage tracking in 2D and 3D biomedical time-series imaging.

Tracking object instances, such as individual living cells or molecular accumulations, and their behavior is a common challenge in 2D and 3D volumetric biomedical imaging. Combined with dynamic environments caused by unintentional camera misalignment over longitudinal studies, deformable tissues, and morphologically changing instances, object tracking poses a challenging and time-consuming task in biomedical settings. This paper presents a robust 2D and 3D object tracker designed to handle such scenarios, ensuring consistent identification of physical objects over time. Our method combines ima

Quantifying the impact of great coaches on Olympic medal predictions: A CPD-D3 model analysis.

The step-up effect of great coaches on Olympic performance has been widely recognized, but its dynamic influence mechanism and quantitative evaluation remain methodological challenges. This study proposes a Change-Point Driven Difference-in-Differences with Decay Model ([Formula: see text]), which integrates the CUSUM algorithm, dynamic difference method (DID), and exponential decay function. The Great Coach effect's nonlinear characteristics and time attenuation rule were analyzed systematically. First, based on the improved CUSUM algorithm to detect the abrupt points of performance, the dual

Combined Biospectroscopy with Multivariate Analysis for the Differential Diagnosis of Leptospirosis Disease: A Pilot Study.

Currently, reported estimates indicate that there are 1.03 million annual cases of leptospirosis, with 58,900 deaths worldwide. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in 2022 indicates that the febrile symptoms of leptospirosis are similar to other diseases such as influenza and dengue, among other diseases. Therefore, an early and accurate diagnosis of leptospirosis is essential for adequate and rapid treatment. In this study, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis techniques was employed to classify between heal

A new gradient-based method for analyzing brain white matter fiber geometry.

BACKGROUND: Precise geometric and morphometric analyses of brain fiber pathways are crucial for unraveling brain organization and mechanisms underlying normal and pathological brain functions. However, existing methods for white matter (WM) fiber geometry analysis remain limited. NEW METHOD: We propose a novel Large-scale Gradient Feature (LsGF) metric to quantify the tangent direction change rate along fiber streamlines. Using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC), we systematically evaluated the stability of LsGF maps under two key factors: streamline count and tractography algorithm.

Developing an ML-Based Pretest Probability Model of Obstructive CAD in Patients With Stable Chest Pain.

BACKGROUND: Updated pretest probability models (ESC2019, the PTP model supported by the European Society of Cardiology after a pooled analysis; and RF-CL, the risk factor-weighted model) are recommended for initial evaluation of patients with stable chest pain before coronary computed tomography angiography to reduce unnecessary examination by recent guidelines. However, the reliability of those pretest probability models has not been fully investigated, especially in Chinese population. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to build a machine learning-based pretest probability model in patients with s

Deep Learning-Based Fault Diagnosis via Multisensor-Aware Data for Incipient Inter-Turn Short Circuits (ITSC) in Wind Turbine Generators.

Wind energy is a vital pillar of modern sustainable power generation, yet wind turbine generators remain vulnerable to incipient inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) faults in their stator windings. These faults can cause fluctuations in the output voltage, frequency, and power of wind turbines, eventually leading to overheating, equipment damage, and rising maintenance costs if not detected early. Although significant progress has been made in condition monitoring, the current methods still fall short of the robustness required for early fault diagnosis in complex operational settings. To address

Choice Behaviors and Prefrontal-Hippocampal Coupling Are Disrupted in a Rat Model of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) are characterized by a range of physical, cognitive, and behavioral impairments. Determining how temporally specific alcohol exposure (AE) affects neural circuits is crucial to understanding the FASD phenotype. Third trimester AE can be modeled in rats by administering alcohol during the first two postnatal weeks, which damages the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus (HPC), structures whose functional interactions are required for working memory and executive function. Therefore, we hypothesized that AE during this period would impair workin
