Fusion imaging for guidance of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation embolisation with minimal radiation and contrast exposure.

Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia is an inherited disorder characterised by vascular dysplasia that leads to the development of arteriovenous malformations. Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations occur in approximately 30% of patients with haemorrhagic telangiectasia. Given the complex characteristics of haemorrhagic telangiectasia lesions, the application of three-dimensional fusion imaging holds significant promise for procedural guidance and decrease in contrast and radiation dosing. We reviewed all patients who underwent transcatheter approach for pulmonary arteriovenous malformation o

Radiographic Prediction of the Occipito-C2 Angle Variation with Changes in Distance between the Mandible and Cervical Vertebrae: A Preliminary Study.

The Occipito (O) -C2 angle reflects the correct craniocervical spine alignment; however, the poor image quality of standard intraoperative fluoroscopy at times lead to inaccurate measurements. Herein, we preliminarily investigated the relationship between the O-C2 angle and the Gonion-C2 distance, which is based on the positioning of the mandible and the cervical spine. We enrolled patients who underwent cervical spine radiography in neutral, flexion, and extension positions from January 2020 to October 2020. The difference by posture changes for each parameter was defined as the Δ value, and

A deep learning based dual encoder-decoder framework for anatomical structure segmentation in chest X-ray images.

Automated multi-organ segmentation plays an essential part in the computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) of chest X-ray fluoroscopy. However, developing a CAD system for the anatomical structure segmentation remains challenging due to several indistinct structures, variations in the anatomical structure shape among different individuals, the presence of medical tools, such as pacemakers and catheters, and various artifacts in the chest radiographic images. In this paper, we propose a robust deep learning segmentation framework for the anatomical structure in chest radiographs that utilizes a dual enc

Mobile cone-beam computed tomography complementing shape-sensing robotic-assisted bronchoscopy in the small pulmonary nodule sampling: A multicentre experience.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Shape-sensing robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (ssRAB) has expanded as an important diagnostic tool for peripheral pulmonary nodules (PPNs), with diagnostic yields ranging from 60% to 88%. However, sampling and diagnosing PPN less than 2 cm in size has historically been challenging. Mobile cone-beam computed tomography (mCBCT) has been recently integrated into ssRAB to improve diagnostic accuracy, but its added value remains uncertain. We aim to describe the role of mCBCT and determine if it provides any diagnostic advantage. METHODS: A multicentre, retrospective study

Assessment of radiation doses and DNA damage in pediatric patients undergoing interventional procedures for vascular anomalies.

Interventional procedures (IPs) have been widely used to treat vascular anomalies (VA) in recent years. However, patients are exposed to low-dose X-ray ionizing radiation (IR) during these fluoroscopy-guided IPs. We collected clinical information and IR doses during IPs and measured biomarkers including γ-H2AX, chromosome aberrations (CA), and micronuclei (MN), which underpin radiation-induced DNA damage, from 74 pediatric patients before and after IPs. For the 74 children, the range of dose-area product (DAP) values was from 1.2 to 1754.6 Gy∙cm2, with a median value of 27.1 Gy∙cm2. DAP values

Measurement of S1 foramen depth for ultrasound-guided S1 transforaminal epidural injection.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound-guided first sacral transforaminal epidural steroid injection (S1 TFESI) is a useful and easily applicable alternative to fluoroscopy or computed tomography (CT) in lumbosacral radiculopathy. When a needle approach is used, poor visualization of the needle tip reduces the accuracy of the procedure, increasing its difficulty. This study aimed to improve ultrasound-guided S1 TFESI by evaluating radiological S1 posterior foramen data obtained using three-dimensional CT (3D-CT). METHODS: Axial 3D-CT images of the pelvis were retrospectively analyzed. The radiological measur

Instability of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis.

The distal tibiofibular syndesmosis (DTFS) is more frequently injured than previously thought. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment is essential to avoid long term complications like chronic instability, early osteoarthritis and residual pain. Management of these injuries require a complete understanding of the anatomy of DTFS, and the role played by the ligaments stabilizing the DTFS and ankle. High index of suspicion, appreciating the areas of focal tenderness and utilizing the provocative maneuvers help in early diagnosis. In pure ligamentous injuries radiographs with stress of weight
