The Baltic Health Network - Taking Secure, Internet-based Healthcare Networks to the Next Level.

Internet-based health care networks are a step forward compared to first generation health care networks, which has been limited to pushing text-based messages between different systems. An Internet-based network can also "pull" data - and not only text but any digital data - for instance images and video sequences. The Internet-based networks can more effectively fulfil the vision of access to relevant data regardless of time and location. Although far from identical, the health delivery systems of Denmark, Norway and Sweden are similar. They also share a shortage of specialized health person

Collaborative Multi-Sensor Fusion for Intelligent Flow Regulation and State Monitoring in Digital Plunger Pumps.

To address the technical challenge where traditional high-pressure, large-flow emulsion pump stations cannot adapt to the drastic flow rate changes in hydraulic supports due to the fixed displacement of their quantitative pumps-leading to frequent system unloading, severe impacts, and damage-this study proposes an intelligent flow control method based on the digital flow distribution principle for actively perceiving and matching support demands. Building on this method, a compact, electro-hydraulically separated prototype with stepless flow regulation was developed. The system integrates high

MRI Study of Trauma-Induced Rotator Cuff Injuries and Their Correlation to Mechanism of Injury.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic rotator cuff injury is a frequent cause of acute shoulder pain, weakness, and functional limitation. Unlike degenerative tears, trauma-related tears usually follow a definite injury event and may show specific imaging patterns depending on the mechanism of trauma. MRI allows detailed assessment of tendon integrity, tear morphology, retraction, muscle status, bone marrow edema, joint effusion, bursitis, and associated shoulder abnormalities. This study aimed to evaluate MRI findings in trauma-induced rotator cuff injuries and correlate them with the mechanism of injury.

Effects of Acute Ruminal Acidosis on Rumen Epithelial Integrity, Permeability, and Transcriptome in Sheep.

Acute ruminal acidosis (ARA) is characterized by a significant decline in rumen pH, a significant increase in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and lactic acids, and a significant decrease in volatile fatty acids (VFA) in rumen fluid. The objectives of this study were to characterize the structural, functional, and molecular changes in rumen epithelium during ARA and to determine which rumen fluid components drive these changes. Twelve sheep were used in this study, of which six were fasted overnight followed by ad libitum access to a concentrate diet to develop ARA, and six sheep were fed alfalfa hay

'I couldn't change his nappy': New mothers' experiences of De Quervain's tendinosis and its impact on occupational performance.

INTRODUCTION: De Quervain's stenosing tendinosis (DQST) is common in new mothers because of awkward wrist postures during repetitive mothering occupations such as nursing and lifting their baby. However, little is known about how DQST affects occupations of first-time mothers. This study aimed to explore the experiences of first-time mothers living with DQST and how it affects performance of their motherhood occupations. METHODS: A descriptive phenomenological study design was used. Participants were 15 first-time mothers of a child aged ≤24 months, with a current or previous diagnosis of DQS

Evidence-based labor management: postpartum care after vaginal delivery (part 6).

In the setting of postpartum care after vaginal delivery, rooming-in is associated with a higher rate of exclusive breastfeeding rate at hospital discharge, but there is insufficient evidence to support or refute rooming-in to increase breastfeeding at 6 months. Education and support for breastfeeding are valuable interventions to promote initiation of breastfeeding whether it is offered by a healthcare professional, nonhealthcare professional, or peer. A combined intervention, a professional provider-led intervention, having a protocol available for the provider training program, and implemen

Latent profiles and characteristic networks of second victim experiences among junior nurses: a latent profile analysis and association rule mining study.

BACKGROUND: Junior nurses (clinical experience ≤ 5 years) are prone to increased second victim distress after adverse events, yet the heterogeneity within this population remains poorly understood. This study used a novel combination of latent profile analysis (LPA) and association rule mining (ARM) to identify distinct second victim profiles, investigate factors associated with profile membership, and design corresponding care-bundle prototypes. METHODS: A cross-sectional, STROBE-compliant survey of 387 junior nurses with ≥ 1 self-reported adverse event in the previous 12 months was conducte

Risk of new-incident mental health diagnoses following SARS-CoV-2 infection amongst children and young adults in Singapore: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Mental-health-disorders in children/young adults increased post-pandemic; however, the absence of linkage to COVID-19 registries made direct attribution of psychological sequelae to acute infection challenging. METHODS: Healthcare-claims databases in Singapore were utilised to evaluate rates of new-incident mental-health-disorders in children/young adults aged 6-25 years from January 1st, 2012 to 29th February, 2024. Influence on monthly observed new-incident mental-health-disorders across various pandemic phases was modelled using negative binomial regression, accounting for seas

Apriori Correlation Analysis of Geriatric Malnutrition, Sarcopenia, Frailty, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes Based on Data Mining Techniques.

INTRODUCTION: Malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty are highly prevalent (with rates ranging from 56% to 74%) among hospitalized elderly patients with comorbidities, and they are key geriatric syndromes that contribute to disability, reduced quality of life, and poor clinical outcomes. However, existing Western medicine guidelines mainly focus on isolated nutritional support and exercise interventions, lack holistic thinking and often treat the three conditions separately, which leads to suboptimal comprehensive clinical effectiveness. To address this, the present study adopts a cross-sectiona

[Smile-guided facial rejuvenation: Contributions of orthodontic analysis to cosmetic surgery of the lower third of the face—Proposal for a decisionmaking algorithm].

INTRODUCTION: Modern facial rejuvenation can no longer be limited to the "facelift": Perceived age is strongly influenced by the smile, incisor display, lip support, and the proportions of the lower third of the face. These parameters are shaped by orthodontics (especially clear aligners) as much as by aesthetic surgery. What are the orthodontic determinants of facial rejuvenation (smile/perioral region/lower third), and how can they be integrated into a surgical or medical-aesthetic rejuvenation strategy? OBJECTIVE: The objective of this article is to propose a practical decision-making algo

Restorative neuromodulation for chronic lumbar spine pain secondary to a long construct spinal fusion: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Persistent low back pain is a known complication of long construct fusions, often resulting in long term impacts on patients' physical function. While available treatment options manage patients' pain, there are few options available that also work to improve the patients' physical function. Prior studies have demonstrated the benefit of restorative stimulation of the multifidus muscles on patients' pain, function, and disability levels. This case hypothesizes that medial branch restorative neuromodulation at the L2 segment may be therapeutic for the patient's chronic lumbar spine

Advances in 3D Bioprinting for Scaffold-Based and Scaffold-Free Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting has emerged as a versatile biofabrication strategy that enables the precise, spatiotemporally controlled co-deposition of living cells, biomaterials, and bioactive agents, including growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, into geometrically defined 3D constructs. By translating digital design models derived from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or computational modeling directly into physical tissue architectures, 3D bioprinting facilitates the assembly of hierarchically organized constructs that closel

A new surgical method of vasoepididymostomy for epididymal obstructive azoospermia to improve the success rate in the rat.

BACKGROUND: Two-suture longitudinal intussusception vasoepididymostomy (LIVE) surgery has been confirmed by many studies in the treatment of epididymal obstruction; however, the success rate and anastomotic patency rate are not high, which cannot meet the modern human demand for a cure rate for this disease. Based on our preliminary research, we have reason to speculate that the new 2-suture circular intussusception vasoepididymostomy (CIVE) surgery group can greatly improve the anastomosis rate and success rate of treating epididymal obstruction patients. LIVE has become the preferred techniq

Correlation between microneutralization test and a multiplexed immunoassay for evaluation of monkeypox and vaccinia virus antibodies before and after smallpox vaccination.

INTRODUCTION: Monkeypox (mpox), an endemic zoonotic viral disease in Central and Western Africa, gained international attention in 2022 when clade IIb of the Monkeypox virus (MPXV) spread outside Africa, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Although the PHEIC was lifted in 2023 due to declining global cases, a resurgence caused by clade Ib has reinstated the emergency status. Current mpox vaccines, based on live-attenuated or modified vaccinia virus (VACV), have historical use in smallpox prevention. Understandi

Impact of the 100 days mission for vaccines on COVID-19: a mathematical modelling study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the beneficial impact of vaccines. It also highlighted the need for future investments to expedite an equitable vaccine distribution. The 100 Days Mission aims to develop and make available a new vaccine against a future pathogen with pandemic potential within 100 days of that pathogen threat being recognised. We assessed the value of this mission by estimating the impact that it could have had on the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Using a previously published model of SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics fitted to excess mortality during the COVID-1
