Anopheles mosquitoes exposed to long-acting antimalarials via drug-supplemented bloodmeal absorb drug but do not suffer fitness costs.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization's recommendations for antimalarial chemoprevention and mass treatment use in endemic areas have greatly expanded, allowing more flexibility in demographic groups and regions targeted. An overlooked aspect of expanding human population-level drug exposure is the downstream impact of drug on the vector. Anopheles mosquitoes re-feed often with ≥4 bloodmeals during their lifespan. This provides repeated opportunities for mosquitoes to ingest drug via bloodmeals taken from people with antimalarials in the bloodstream and raises questions as to drug impact o

OpenIMC: an open-source platform for analyzing single-cell and spatial proteomics by imaging mass cytometry.

BACKGROUND: Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC) enables highly multiplexed, spatially resolved single-cell proteomics, providing simultaneous measurement of dozens of protein markers while preserving tissue architecture. Despite its analytical power, IMC data analysis remains fragmented across multiple software environments, requiring researchers to combine independent tools for visualization, preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, phenotyping, batch correction, and spatial analysis. This fragmentation increases technical barriers, complicates reproducibility, and limits accessibility for n

Effects of anti-RANKL, Zoledronate or combination therapy in a mouse model of fibrous dysplasia: a preclinical study.

Bone fragility and pain are major clinical issues in fibrous dysplasia (FD) of bone, a genetic disorder characterized by increased bone resorption and lytic lesions. Both bisphosphonates (BPs) and denosumab are currently used to treat FD patients, although important concerns remain unsolved. BPs downregulate bone remodeling but their effects on FD lesions and pain are variable. Conversely, denosumab converts FD tissue into mineralized bone and prevents disease progression, but disease rebound occurs upon treatment withdrawal. The combination of these two drugs may represent an effective and sa

Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma with Synchronous Bladder Metastasis: Diagnostic, Surgical, and Pathological Insights from a Rare Presentation.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) constitutes 75-80% of all renal cell carcinomas and exhibits aggressive behavior with high metastatic potential. Common metastatic sites include lungs, bones, lymph nodes, and liver, while urinary bladder involvement is exceedingly rare. Early detection of atypical metastases is critical for risk stratification, surgical planning, and systemic therapy selection. Methods: We report a 69-year-old male presenting with recurrent, painless gross hematuria and dysuria. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a left renal mass with bilateral

Remediation of organic pollutants by Fenton-like reactions with spinel catalysts: pathways, transformation products, and reactor perspectives.

Spinel ferrite-catalyzed Fenton and Fenton-like advanced oxidation processes are emerging as a practical route for removing persistent organic pollutants from water, yet its selectivity, by-product formation, and scale-up behavior remain insufficiently resolved. This review consolidates recent advances in the activation of oxidants using hydrogen peroxide, peroxymonosulfate, and peroxydisulfate, and links operating conditions to the dominant oxidation pathways. It distinguishes regimes in which hydroxyl or sulfate radicals prevail from conditions that favor singlet oxygen generation or direct

Taste Sensitivity Is Inversely Associated with Body Mass Index (BMI) Independently of Caloric Intake: Evidence from Sensory and Genetic Analyses.

Background/Objectives: Taste perception has emerged as a key determinant of eating behavior and metabolic regulation, but its relationship with body mass index (BMI) remains incompletely understood. We investigated the relationships among global, sweet, and lipid taste sensitivity; sweet- and lipid-taste-related polymorphisms; caloric intake; and BMI. Methods: Taste sensitivity was assessed using taste strips (overall and sweet) and detection thresholds for fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids). Genotyping of polymorphism genes was conducted. Pearson correlation analyses examined b

Insulin receptor expression and its association with hyperinsulinemia in triple negative breast cancer.

PURPOSE: Hyperinsulinemia and tumor insulin receptor (IR) expression have been associated with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) progression in preclinical models. We aimed to evaluate the expression of the IR, IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R), and associated signaling protein expression in TNBC and their correlations with demographic and metabolic parameters in a population of women with TNBC. METHODS: We identified cases of TNBC from our multi-institutional, cross-sectional study of self-identified Black and White women with newly diagnosed breast cancer. Survey, anthropometric, screening behavio

Influence of Joule heating and activation energy on bioconvective casson nanofluid transport over a curved stretching surface.

This study numerically investigates magnetohydrodynamic Casson nanofluid flow over a curved stretching sheet under the influence of Joule heating, thermal radiation, activation energy, and chemical reaction. The Buongiorno model incorporating Brownian motion and thermophoresis describes nanoscale transport, while gyrotactic motile microorganisms stabilize the nanoparticle suspension through bioconvection. A systematic comparison between Newtonian and non-Newtonian (Casson) fluid models highlights the yield stress effects on transport characteristics. The governing equations of the Casson nanof

Dissecting the binding landscape of four cKIT inhibitors through an integrated multifaceted approach.

The receptor tyrosine kinase cKIT plays a pivotal role in a variety of physiological processes and is implicated in a broad spectrum of pathological conditions. Its activity is controlled by phosphorylation-dependent conformational changes, which also influence the binding mode of small-molecule inhibitors. We employed an integrated experimental and computational strategy to characterize the conformational landscape of cKIT and to elucidate the binding mechanisms of four inhibitors, Avapritinib, Olverembatinib, Labuxtinib and Cenisertib. A combination of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), enzyma

N-Acetyltaurine induces an IRX2-GDF15 endocrine response that suppresses high-fat diet-induced energy intake.

N-acetyltaurine (NAT) is a taurine-derived metabolite that has recently been linked to feeding behavior and body-weight regulation. Although NAT has been shown to lower body weight through GFRAL-dependent signaling, the tissue source and upstream regulatory mechanism responsible for NAT-induced GDF15 production remain incompletely defined. Here we show that NAT administration suppressed food intake, limited early HFD-induced weight gain and adipose tissue expansion, and attenuated lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle and liver. These effects were accompanied by increased circulating GDF15. Ge

A 17-Year-Old Male Adolescent With a Giant Isolated Scalp Neurofibroma Associated With a Calvarial Defect: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Scalp neurofibromas are uncommon benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors and are typically associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Isolated scalp neurofibromas without NF1 findings are extremely rare, and large lesions with associated calvarial remodeling are even more exceptional. This study presents a giant occipital neurofibroma in a young patient without any diagnostic criteria of NF1 and discusses its clinical, radiological, surgical, and histopathological features in the context of current literature. Improvement in Quality of Life Using an Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Palatal Obturator in a Patient with Self-Inflicted Nasal Defect and Palatal Perforation.

A 67-year-old female patient with intellectual disability presented with a self-inflicted nasal defect and palatal perforation. In 2006, she was referred to our department by a nurse from her care facility with the chief complaint of food leakage into the nasal cavity due to the palatal perforation. Her medical history revealed a long-standing habit of scratching the nasal cavity, which had persisted for more than 30 years since approximately 27 years of age. Clinical and radiographic examinations, including three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT), demonstrated a nasal defect, crust form

Helicobacter pylori outer membrane vesicle-induced hsa-miR-302a-3p and hsa-miR-184 promote the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a major gastric cancer pathogen. Recent studies have linked H. pylori infection to microRNA (miRNA) dysregulation. H. pylori outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) support bacterial survival and pathogenesis, but the OMV-miRNA interactions remain unclear. To address this lack of understanding, we co-cultured the H. pylori strain NCTC11637 and its OMVs with the gastric epithelial cell line GES-1 and gastric cancer cell lines SGC-7901 and HGC-27. Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) showed hsa-miR-302a-3p upregulation in the GES-1 line

Solitary fibrous tumor of the posterior fossa: a rare and atypical case report.

INTRODUCTION: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm of fibroblastic origin. Intracranial SFTs account for less than 1% of primary central nervous system tumors, and posterior fossa location is exceptional. Although often slow-growing and histologically bland, intracranial SFTs have an intermediate biological potential due to delayed recurrence and extracranial metastases. We report a posterior fossa SFT mimicking a common extra-axial lesion. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old woman presented with a 1-year history of progressive headaches, vomiting, and right-sided wea
