BACKGROUND: Recombinant interferon-alpha-2b (rIFN-alpha-2b) has shown therapeutic potential in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia and other myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs), including the ability to suppress the abnormal hematopoietic clone and to reverse myelofibrosis. This study was conducted to evaluate further the efficacy and safety of rIFN-alpha-2b in a large group of patients with polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, or agnogenic myeloid metaplasia and to determine maintenance of response after treatment discontinuation.

Barrett's oesophagus is a condition when the oesophagus adenocarcinoma risk increases. There are different ways of diagnostic and treatment for this disease abroad and our country. We offer a complex method for Barrett's oesophagus treatment. Our method reveals Barrett's oesophagus effectively. We also take antireflux treatment and Barrett's epithelium elimination using miniinvasive surgery with drugs therapy. We have experience of curing 48 patients from Barrett's oesophagus. Considering obtained results our tactic for clinical practice is recommended.

OBJECTIVE: The increasing resistance of Helicobacter pylori to clarithromycin led to developing new eradication treatment regimens. The objective of our observational study was to determine the proportion of H. pylori strains resistant to clarithromycin in infected patients in Reunion Island and to suggest a first-line treatment in agreement with the local ecology.

The incidence of radicular cysts in 125 chronic periapical lesions was studied in 36 cases of periapical surgery (28.8%), and to 89 tooth extractions (71.2%). Histopathology revealed 18 radicular cysts (14.4%) and 107 lesions corresponding to chronic apical periodontitis (C.A.P.) or granulomas (85.6%). Cholesterol clefts, a fibrous capsule and presence of a cavity were more common in the cysts, significant differences being observed with respect to chronic apical periodontitis.
