A Novel 4D Ultrasound Parenting Intervention for Substance Using Pregnant Women in Finland: Participation in Obstetric Care, Fetal Drug Exposure, and Perinatal Outcomes in a Randomized Controlled Trial.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to explore the effect of a new prenatal intervention on participation in obstetric care, fetal drug exposure, and perinatal outcomes among substance using pregnant women in Finland. METHODS: The participants were 90 women referred to a hospital obstetric outpatient clinic due to current or recent substance use. The intervention group (n = 46) was offered three interactive ultrasounds at 24, 30 and 34 gestational weeks and a pregnancy diary accompanied by three prenatal infant mental health consultations. The intervention elements were designed to enhance p

Protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial evaluating a parenting with home visitation programme to prevent physical and emotional abuse of children in Indonesia: the Families First Programme.

INTRODUCTION: Every year, up to 1 billion children are victims of violence worldwide. Most child abuse takes place in the context of punishment. The Families First Programme, an adaptation of the Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting Programme to the West Java context, is a parenting support programme anchored on children's rights that gives parents guidance on child development, parenting and positive discipline practices. This trial will evaluate the effectiveness of the Families First Programme compared with a waitlist control group. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a pragmatic, parallel-

Alcohol Use Disorder Polygenic Risk Scores and Trajectories of Early Adolescent Externalizing Behaviors: Examining the Role of Parenting and Family Conflict in the Racially/Ethnically Diverse ABCD Sample.

This study examined the independent and interactive effects of alcohol use disorder genome-wide polygenic scores (AUD-PGS) and parenting and family conflict on early adolescent externalizing behaviors. Data were drawn from White (N = 6181, 46.9% female), Black/African American (N = 1784, 50.1% female), and Hispanic/Latinx (N = 2410, 48.0% female) youth from the adolescent brain cognitive development Study (ABCD). Parents reported on youth externalizing behaviors at baseline (T1, age 9/10), 1-year (T2, age 10/11) and 2-year (T3, age 11/12) assessments. Youth reported on parenting and family env

Assessing the cost-effectiveness of economic strengthening and parenting support for preventing violence against adolescents in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa: An economic modelling study using non-randomised data.

There is limited evidence around the cost-effectiveness of interventions to reduce violence against children in low- and middle-income countries. We used a decision-analytic model to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of three intervention scenarios for reducing adolescent emotional, physical, and sexual abuse in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. The intervention scenarios were: 1) Community grant outreach to link households to South Africa's Child Support Grant (CSG) if they are eligible, but not receiving it; 2) Group-based parenting support; and 3) Group-based parenting support 'plus' linkage

Field generation of triparental sugar beet plants through polyspermy-induced three-parent breeding.

Polyspermy, the fertilization of an egg by two sperm cells, can generate viable triparental offspring in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. To explore the potential for three-parent breeding in a crop species, male-sterile sugar beet plants were grown alongside genetically distinct pollen donors carrying dominant, traceable selection markers. Progeny carrying genetic signatures from two fathers were identified and subjected to further genetic analysis. The combined detection of paternal markers from two pollen donors and an additional chromosome set confirms the triparental origin of these

Parental Anxiety, Depression, and Sleep Quality in Relation to Infant Sleep: A Two-Cohort Longitudinal Study.

OBJECTIVES: Parental mental health is linked to infant sleep, but research has focused mainly on mothers and on single distress dimensions. This study examined whether parental anxiety, depression, and sleep quality are associated with infant sleep across the first year, and whether mothers and fathers contribute differently. METHOD: Two independent cohorts of Taiwanese families (42 and 80 infants; 107 and 270 observations) were followed across the first year, assessed at 1-6 months (Cohort 1) and 1-12 months (Cohort 2). At each assessment, both parents completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depr

Parental Care Modulates Early-Life Oral Microbiome Assembly and Immune Ontogeny in Wild Birds.

A young bird meets its first microbes before its immune system is finished being built. By early-life microbiome dynamics we mean the changes in which microbes arrive, persist, and are lost over the first days and weeks of life. When we understand those dynamics, we can tell how much of a wild bird's microbiome its parents hand to it and how much its own maturing mucosa selects. We can then ask how that first community trains the immune system that will later regulate it. Developing birds offer a model for this work because rapid shifts along avian host developmental trajectories continually r

Parental Digital Neglect and Family Functioning in Children With Developmental Language Disorder: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: Developmental language disorder (DLD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition influenced by both biological and environmental factors. Increasing digital technology use within families has raised concerns regarding its potential effects on parent-child interactions and child developmental outcomes. PURPOSE: To compare parental internet use, digital parenting awareness, family functioning, and parental psychopathology between families of children with DLD and families of typically developing children, and to identify factors independently associated with DLD. METHODS: In this cro

Impact of Parental Illness Uncertainty on Asthma Control in Children: The Chain Mediation of Resilience and Fear of Progression.

BACKGROUND: Parental illness uncertainty may affect pediatric asthma management, yet the psychological pathways linking parental uncertainty to child asthma control remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the chain mediating roles of resilience and fear of progression (FoP) in the association between parental illness uncertainty and childhood asthma control. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 288 child-mother dyads attending follow-up visits at the pediatric outpatient clinic of a tertiary hospital in Fujian Province, China, between January 2025 and April 2026. From child and parent needs to supportive interventions for proton therapy without anaesthesia: A qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Children must remain still during proton therapy (PT) to ensure precise treatment delivery. For some children, distress, separation from parents, or difficulties coping with the treatment situation necessitate treatment under anaesthesia. This study aimed to explore children's and parents' experiences of PT delivered with or without anaesthesia, to inform the development of supportive interventions in paediatric PT intended to reduce the use of anaesthesia. METHODS: Participant observations informed the development of interview guides. Children were interviewed using photo elici

Atherosclerotic changes of the parent artery associated with ruptures in small (<7 mm) anterior communicating artery aneurysms.

BACKGROUND: Small unruptured aneurysms are usually considered low-risk lesions and are typically managed conservatively. However, recent evidence indicates that small aneurysms account for a substantial proportion of ruptured intracranial aneurysms. OBJECTIVE: To determine which morphology- and hemodynamics-related parameters are associated with the rupture status of small (<7 mm) anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 332 consecutive patients with ACoA aneurysms who were treated at our institute. Clinical data, imaging data, and intraoperative v

Caring for Aging Parents After Childhood Maltreatment: A Qualitative Study of Japanese Adult-Child Caregivers.

OBJECTIVES: Research on adult-child caregivers with childhood maltreatment (CM) histories has been conducted predominantly in North America. This qualitative study examined the psychological conflicts and protective factors among Japanese adult-child caregivers with CM histories. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 Japanese adult-child caregivers (5 men, 5 women; mean age = 60.40, SD = 6.13). Data were analyzed using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach. RESULTS: Caregiving often reactivated negative childhood emotions, suggesting that unresolved trauma may also be re

Affect regulation among bereaved parents following perinatal death: a systematic review of quantitative studies.

BACKGROUND: Perinatal death has profound psychological and physical consequences. Understanding how bereaved parents regulate negative affect may help explain variability in adjustment and inform interventions. However, two important gaps remain. First, existing reviews in the field include very limited evidence on parents following perinatal death. Second, these reviews have focused primarily on emotion regulation processes, although emotion regulation is only one way to regulate affective experiences. AIMS: This review synthesises quantitative evidence on affect regulation (AR) following pe

Psychometric properties of the 13-Item Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder-Parent Version (PSCD-PV).

The 13-item Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder-Parent Version (PSCD-PV) is a brief measure designed to assess multidimensional psychopathic traits in youth including grandiose-manipulative, callous-unemotional, daring-impulsive, and conduct disorder (CD) dimensions. Although initial validation findings are promising, further research is needed to replicate and extend psychometric support for this abbreviated form. The present study examined the factor structure, measurement invariance, and construct validity of the 13-item PSCD-PV in a large community sample of children and adolescents (

Toward a Three-Tier Model of Parental Self-regulation: A Scoping Review of Existing Definitions and Operationalisations.

Parental self-regulation has gained increasing scholarly attention as a core parent process underpinning effective parenting. However, substantial variability exists in how researchers define and use the term, leading to conceptual ambiguity and inconsistency in measurement, which limits comparability across studies and constrains cumulative knowledge building. Given the construct's growing use, this scoping review aims to clarify its scope and improve conceptual and methodological coherence through mapping how the term "parental self-regulation" has been defined and operationalised across the

Haplotype-resolved methylomes reveal parent-of-origin DNA methylation imbalance in autism spectrum disorder.

Epigenetic dysregulation plays an essential role in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but the parent-of-origin effects (POEs) of DNA methylation remain unknown. Here, we applied PacBio HiFi sequencing with haplotype-phased methylation profiling in 124 individuals (31 ASD quartets) to systematically dissect POE-dependent methylation. Comparative analysis of phased methylomes between probands and unaffected siblings identified 114 paternal- and 106 maternal-specific differential methylated cytosines (DMCs), 45 and 46 differential methylated regions (DMRs), and 2425 and 2693 methylation outliers (M
