AcneGrader: An ensemble pruning of the deep learning base models to grade acne.

BACKGROUND: Acne is one of the most common skin lesions in adolescents. Some severe or inflammatory acne leads to scars, which may have major impacts on patients' quality of life or even job prospects. Grading acne plays an important role in diagnosis, and the diagnosis is made by counting the number of acne. It is a labor-intensive job and it is easy for dermatologists to make mistakes, so it is very important to develop automatic diagnosis methods. Ensemble learning may improve the prediction results of the base models, but its time complexity is relatively high. The ensemble pruning strateg

Development and training of a machine learning algorithm to identify patients at risk for recurrence following an arthroscopic Bankart repair (CLEARER): protocol for a retrospective, multicentre, cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder instability is a common injury, with a reported incidence of 23.9 per 100 000 person-years. There is still an ongoing debate on the most effective treatment strategy. Non-operative treatment has recurrence rates of up to 60%, whereas operative treatments such as the Bankart repair and bone block procedures show lower recurrence rates (16% and 2%, respectively) but higher complication rates (<2% and up to 30%, respectively). Methods to determine risk of recurrence have been developed; however, patient-specific decision-making tools are still lacking. Artificial intelligen

An innovative approach for predicting prostate cancer Gleason grading: machine learning-based fusion of multimodal ultrasound, clinical and laboratory indicators.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is a common malignancy among elderly males with a growing incidence. While prostate biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosis, this invasive procedure is poorly tolerated by some patients. The Gleason grade group (GGG) plays a critical role in predicting metastatic risk, guiding treatment selection, and is strongly associated with survival outcomes. Consequently, noninvasive prediction of prostate cancer Gleason grading has emerged as a research priority. This study aimed to develop a noninvasive predictive model integrating multimodal ultrasound data and clini

Machine learning-guided risk stratification in elderly AML based on genomic, immunophenotypic and therapeutic profiles.

BACKGROUND: Elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) exhibit considerable biological and clinical heterogeneity, hindering precise prognosis. Existing prognostic systems inadequately capture the complexity of elderly AML due to their reliance on data from younger cohorts and omission of key factors like immunophenotypic markers and therapeutic profiles. This study aimed to develop and internally validate a machine learning-based prognostic model specifically tailored to elderly AML patients. METHODS: A total of 156 patients were analyzed using a two-stage modeling strategy. Clinical

Artificial intelligence model for cardiovascular disease risk prediction in breast cancer patients using electronic health records and computed tomography scans.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally [1] as well as the leading cause of death among cancer survivors [2]. The outcomes of CVD mortality among cancer patients, particularly those with breast cancer, highlight the need for early detection of CVD at the beginning of cancer treatment as cardiotoxicity can also lead to accelerated development of chronic diseases, especially in the presence of risk factors [3]. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A fusion deep learning model was developed and tested using computed tomography (CT) scans and electronic healt

Machine learning for detection of subclinical mastitis: A Bayesian approach incorporating diagnostic test properties.

The large amount of data collected through automatic milking systems (AMS) may be used for early detection of intramammary infections and become instrumental for monitoring udder health in dairy herds. Machine learning (ML) techniques can aid in improving diagnostic test properties of current indicators of subclinical mastitis (SCM). In this study, we present novel customized ML models for predicting SCM from AMS data. We show how results from several diagnostic tests can be incorporated into ML model training by explicitly accounting for their sensitivity and specificity. The underlying infec
