Tracking conditioned fear in pair-housed mice using deep learning and real-time cue delivery.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a complex and prevalent neuropsychiatric condition that arises in response to exposure to a traumatic event. A common diagnostic criterion for PTSD includes heightened physiological reactivity to trauma-related sensory cues, in safe or familiar environments. Understanding complex PTSD criteria requires new pre-clinical paradigms and technologies that integrate sensory physiology (e.g., auditory, visual, olfactory) with behavior. Here we present a novel Pavlovian-based paradigm using an open-source software plus deep learning-based pose estimation to inv

Discovery of iron-oxo-catalyzed oxidation of fluorophenyl systems to carbonyls or epoxides: reactive intermediates determined mechanism.

CONTEXT: Carbonyl and epoxide compounds play crucial roles in organic synthesis, and the utilization of metal catalysis offers distinct advantages. However, the catalysis of their synthesis by high-valent iron-oxo remains a challenge. In this study, we investigated iron-oxo-catalyzed phenyl systems in detail. Our results show that the carbon atoms on the aromatic ring are positively charged by replacing a hydrogen atom with a fluorine atom, which leads to different catalytic mechanisms. Specifically, the cationic intermediate formed via a double-electron transfer in the low-spin (LS) state of

Machine Learning Scoring Reveals Increased Frequency of Falls Proximal to Death in Drosophila melanogaster.

Falls are a significant cause of human disability and death. Risk factors include normal aging, neurodegenerative disease, and sarcopenia. Drosophila melanogaster is a powerful model for study of normal aging and for modeling human neurodegenerative disease. Aging-associated defects in Drosophila climbing ability have been observed to be associated with falls, and immobility due to a fall is implicated as one cause of death in old flies. An automated method for quantifying Drosophila falls might facilitate the study of causative factors and possible interventions. Here, machine learning method
